There was something about John Vanbiesbrouk that was not championship caliber. He played great as an underdog (like with Rangers in 1986 and Florida in 1996) but underacheived when he played on a team that was favored. Lots of talent but something was missing.
One of the worst loses in Rangers history. Richter gave up a FLUKE 65 foot goal and the Penguins won the cup, and this series because of it. The Rangers were the best team in the league this year, and in 1994 when they won the cup.
Wow, now the Islanders are referred to as "New York" when it helps a Ranger fan win an argument. The Islanders didn't "get revenge" on the Pens "for" the Rangers, the Islanders did it for themselves. The Islanders back then, before then and now still feel the same way about the Rangers and I will tell you what that feeling it.......FUCK THE RANGERS.
@Slipknot5301 No they didn't finish in last...last season? WTF? Like, I hope you're not being serious with me right now, maybe in the DIVISION, but not 30th, and thats because their in arguably the best division in the NHL.
Jeez, Sam and JD are the two biggest homers in NHL history, and I'm not talking about excitement level, just honest announcing. Not one negative thing to say about Messier's turnover, and just a "there was a deflection.." That deflection was brilliant!
I was at this game. Place was exploding w/ excitement. Pens showed a lot of character to win series without lemeiux who suffered a broken hand courtesy of Graves slash.
I remember this. Rangers should have won in 92. Best NHL record, but this game phucked the Rangers. Up 4-2 Richter let in a blue line slapper, and that turned the series around.
i think its safe to say that new york (the islanders) thrusted revenge on pittsburgh for you a year later. i swear regular season success is a prelude to playoff heartbreak
I guess u are not aware that the Rangers and Isles are arch rivals. I would never root for them in a million years, believe me in 93 I was not thinking about the Isles getting revenge for us, I was rooting 100% for the Pens.

Penguins should've left those jerseys alone.
After so many years of ugly combinations, they finally got a jersey that looked good.

The Flyers, Pens, Isles, Oilers, Flames lol, all in the league for a fraction of the time the Rangers were and all won MULTIPLE cups.
The Rangers are cursed.

Pens won even after Graves broke Mario's hand. Clearly NOT the best team in the league.
