im kind of new to making music, but how would you put a drum break in time with the metronome would you have to chop it up. or do you have like a time stretch process?
That was one of the first drum machine i bought, back in 95. I bought it brand new and sold it after a few months. Just didn't have the patient to learn it. Than years later i bought a classic triton 61 or 64 key. I had that for about a year and change and sold it. Now i work with all Propellerhead programs, Reason 5 and reason record 1.5. The kong drum machine sounds gritty and rugged like the sp1200. Trust me with some good speakers and interface mac computer it's over. Reason Rule. Peace
In your example all your sounds are triggered on the "one " which sound robotic.
Have you tried looping on the snare ? I always start & end the loop on the snare as its more accurate & less predictable on the ear as its harder to detect the joins..It will obviously depend on the sample but its better & sounds more natural especially if your triggering additional sounds.
you may have to mess about with your one shot triggering but its worth the effort.
amazing set up! probably the greatist combo of all time, im lookin to get an sp n 950 just 1 question before i do kud i midi up the sp????????? kuz those buttons dont look so great to play, if not i will ruff it out tho.
@frankone702 fuck yeah, i started to get into his stuff around 14 years ago (?) but i had to wait until these last 2 or 3 years until i finally got to see him and it was so worth it! wish he'd tour out more often. ROCKETS ON THE BATTLEFIELDS, BITCHES!
pardon my lack of knowledge but can the s950 be used to make beats on its own? Im just curious cos i always see guys who have an s950 have a sp1200 as well, like thats the only way to use them? Is this the set up Large Pro used to use? I hear him mentioning the s950 some times. Anyway thanks for the cool video.
From what I've gathered no. If I'm wrong please correct me on this, but you use the s950 to sample because it has a longer sampling time and nice filters and whatnot, but you need a sequencer of some sort to trigger these samples when making your beat. Hence the SP + 950 combo.
the clicking during beat making drives me nuts sometimes... tap tap tap, click click click... we're working on inventing rubber SP1200 pads... we're working on it... ++ DRUMAT!C
That beat is crazy!!! Old skool styling is always welcomed!!

The sound and groove of the SP1200 is great. But I hate the feel of it. All plastic and hard. Much like the MPC with the pads better

Its fantastic how incredibly cool music was done with only 8 voices of polyphony, makes me happy when i listen to it.

The loop is cool. Remember "Because I Got It Like That"? Classic Jungle Brothers track.
The sound of the vid is out of sync though. Can you fix that?
