  • muita tecnica um dos melhores baterista do mundo na minha opiniao

  • 1:13..... that CRASH! :O GIVE IT TO ME NOW!

  • This guy seems to know a little bit better how to play drums than I do. Switzerland is not only the land of hiding money.

  • jojo mayer is to drums what chuck norris is to everything else

  • bought this DVD when it was released, still learning a lot of it right now.

  • Terry Bozzio has 10 times more drums and 100 times less melody.

  • @AlexLococo ignorant comment is ignorant. the whole point of bozzio having that many drums is to create a melody. they are all tuned at diatonic and chromatic intervals. it's like a grand piano with a drumset costume on.

  • @pwnage51 I know that, but having an scalpel doesn't make you a surgeon. Same applies with music: having an instrumen doesn't make you a mucisian. Don't get me wrong, he plays excelent, shit is impossible to imitate, but he plays like a robot: almost no soul in his "music".

  • @AlexLococo dude have you seen Bozzio play when he is in what i like to call "piano mode"? the music is very soulful. and the scalpel analogy doesn't work in this context. if you have skill, experience and overall talent with an instrument or instruments, you are a musician. some musical pieces don't really call for that much soul. it all depends on the genre. when Terry was playing with Korn (i'm not sure if he still is or not) he didnt need soul because metal doesn't require that much soul.

  • @pwnage51 There I disagree: Korn is barely metal, and he actually did a great job. Now, as you said it, you're right, the analogy was wrong because I said he has skill. Now, on to the point. Bozzio do has soul, but only when playing along with music, but his drum solos are empty, there's just so many drums he seems he doesn't know what to do with them. I admire his ability to have different time signatures on each arm and leg, but that isn't enough for me to call it a succesful solo.

  • @AlexLococo

    I agree 100%.

  • @pwnage51 Realized I'm an asshole for talking about a drummer in other drummer's video. =s

  • 25 people never use their high-hat

  • Jojo Mayer and Larnell Lewis are IMO the top living drummers.

  • An extremely comprehensive DVD. There is enough on here to keep you going and being inspired for years - and that is just to get each idea into your head and at some point incorporated into your practice regime. To master any of them, is of course a life times work!! Would recommend this DVD to any drummer, from any background, with any musical interests.

  • yummy yummy yummy hes got rhythm in his tummy

  • Who is the guy at 0:04 please

  • @Gwendall666 The guy that flashes by real quick in the gray shirt was Steve Gadd. The black man in the blue shirt was John Blackwell!

  • @ThomasMetal75 Thank you man :)

  • @Gwendall666 Neil Peart i think

  • This is a snippet from his DVD, possibly the most important instructional DVD out there! also checkout Jim Chapin's stuff, Moeller technique!

  • Jojo is a virtuoso.

  • holy crap, its like each hand and foot have their own brain

  • @Aulia3592 it is he has 4 brains

  • Yawn.

  • He put the Drum tabs on the roof.

  • JoJo Meyer and Benny Greb

  • Stamina....'nuff said. Jojo...yesssssss.

  • that ride cymbol sparkles! (in sound) lol

  • He has incredible syncopation, and rhythm. He's a freak, I mean that in the best way.

  • who else thinks jojo should do a blast beat segment? He probably has the technique to blast well over 260 bpm comfortably at odd times

  • To me it's not even debatable that he's the best drummer in the world.

  • people who don't play drums have no idea how hard that beggining part really is...

  • i liked the part from 0:00 - 2:27

  • @drummer9042 boring.

  • @daonpa how?

  • Comment removed

  • @drummer9042 Im not talkin about the video, im talkin about your fuckin comment

  • @daonpa ok good haha

  • JOJO MAYER VS. DANNY CAREY

  • @logansdrums

    zzz...

they should have kids. Jojo Carey would be a sick drummer, heavy hitting and extremely fast chops- insane knowledge of all time signatures, all styles, dynamic with extreme stick trickery and theatrics.

    Oh yeah, Vinnie.

  • 1:14 min

Halo = Jesus of drummers = Jojo Mayer.

  • ★Jojo Mayer's Nerve JAPAN TOUR 2011★

  • look at his face on the first part, looks like he's getting his powers by tasting the air.. lmao

  • but pads feel listener playing comes from practice soulless musicianship much want travis barker diddly blah blah, POST YOUR OWN VIDEOS!

  • i dont lik his set sound to much but his playing fucking kicks ass

  • bloody hell. this guy is amazing.

what i love the most though is how he doesnt have a massive complicated drum kit but still makesamazing sounds and beats ect.

    amazing

  • hes amazing, but an absolute bigheaded bellend in real life

  • drum machines imitate jojo mayers.

  • is it just me or does jojo mayer not really sound like a russian name?

  • Notice how relaxed he stays through the whole thing

  • Yea Baby!!

  • PRACTICE ON THE PRACTICE PAD,8 to 10 hours a day----maybe you get close to this volume of speed and control----DOUBLE ROLLS___SINGLE ROLLS___PARADIDDLES___FLAMS___MOELLER TECHNIQUE____IF YOU DON"T KNOW ANY OF THESE____FIND OUT AND BUY A GOOD PAD__TAKE A BREAK FROM THE COMPUTER AND HIT THE PAD---------------------ralfodrum

  • @ralfodrum thats cool having tons and tons of hand technique.... but thats not going to get you hired. Much rather be a musical drummer then a technical drummer.

  • @julianisdope which of course is up to personal taste. So what you consider "musical" is completely unmusical and boring to someone else, and vice versa.

  • @raizumichin yea that is true, but musicality is universal and im sorry but practicing on a pad 8 to 10 hours a day will get you great technique but that is all it will get you. I guess you can practice rudiments and technique with some sort of emotion or feeling but it's rather limited. I mean shit listen to tony williams his playing just screams musicianship. I guess what im trying to say is that there's only so much you can do on a pad. Each to his own i guess. keep drummin

  • Comment removed

  • @julianisdope Emotion and feeling comes from the litsener rather than the drummer. Some find Jojo Mayer completely soulless and boring, while others find his playing highly musical. So go on and practice as much as you want (both on pads for physical technique and with a band)

  • the best!

  • it looks like he is photoshopped into the background

  • Man does this guy know how to groove!

  • what the fuck.

    Hands DON'T move like that!

  • holy shit i didnt know screech from saved by the bell could play drums

  • may aswell kill ourselves.

  • Not that they're not great drummers, but i liked to see travis barker or joey jordison try to play something like this lol

  • whats with the background shit, just play the drums dammit

  • first minute locomotivic

  • The face he makes at 1:33 is almost as awesome as his drumming.

  • he's damn good, but the best? no....

  • @Meatlooaf he's damn close. There are few people out there who play as well as jojo mayer.

  • I am militant about paiste cymbals but damn it!!!! I want a pair of those hats.

  • best drummer in zee world

  • He is not an alien, he's a musician!

  • must have had a lot of lonely nights to build up those forearms...

  • @BiGReD666100 hahaha

  • it doesn't make sense, how is this possible?

  • i think he is a fish because he keeps on opening a closing his mouth like one!

  • anyone know what snare that is?

  • @Fendermrr It is God's snare. Holy and perfect.

  • how to be like him?

  • @xiaobin90 First change your genetic structure.

  • @TheWillbebart hahah! nice :D

  • Jo jo is for real, I've seen him play at a drum clinic twice, he is truly incredible, unbelievable chops and technique but equally tasteful and musical. His music tastes are alien, though,lol..Very obscure music but so is his drumming. nobody plays like him. He is truly one of the best..DT43

  • Imagine he would be awake while drumming XD

  • i love seeing drummers when the get into the zone, its almost like and outer body experience

  • @micheal10250 absolutely

  • somone put a laser pointer on the ceiling. thumbs up if u agree

  • Im so truly sorry to say this, but if buddy were here today, he would hate this guy.

  • 20 guys missed the like thomb hahahahaha

  • This is called controlled greatness waiting to happen. Guys like this can simply do whatever they see fit anytime they see to it.

  • perfect rhythm and coordination...great timing..

  • dope

  • I saw JoJo in a clinic and when he told the crowd he only had one bass drum pedal, everyone gasped like the power went out!

  • JoJo is neither an alien nor is he rhythm itself. He's swiss, that's why he can do what he does, we all can in Switzerland! ;)

  • I speek quite seriously when I suggest this man is infact rhythm itself.

  • @NPC919 You can spell rhythm, but you can't spell speak. Interesting!

  • @NPC919 rhythm manifested

  • @NPC919

I'd agree with you, but Jojo has mastered so much more than rhythm. More like music itself.

  • @NPC919 he's one of those rare cats who have a lotta stuff together. watever style he plays he does it with a high level of authenticity.

  • So fluid and precise

  • 20 people who MUST not touch a drumstick again

  • @Aprosperitis you know usually i get annoyed with comments such as the one you posted, but i 100% totally agree with you

  • @Aprosperitis now 25!!!

  • I'm so much better than him, check out my vid and you'll understand.

  • His hi-hat and ride look like they've been hit a million times in some places.

  • yes i say that before It is an Alien !! beware !!

  • Good work Jojo! But you should practise a bit more though.. Check out my drum vid to see a real legend!

  • I rather apply this technique

    youtube.com/watch?v=WgdjDgX784g

  • Jojo and a 4 piece pwns Neil Peart and his 30-somethin piece out of existence.

  • One of the most musical drummers out there today along with Vinnie of course ;)

  • i like this

  • Ugh...this video makes me soo angry! I want to be able to play traditional style!

  • @flyingdrummer91 I've been playing with traditional style ever since I started drumming, and apart from looking nice, it doesn't really have too many advantages...

  • lol u are stupid, this guy is an alien, its impossible for a human, its obvious.

  • @Bokee234

If Jojo Mayer is an alien, then Dave Garibaldi is out of this galaxy, LOL.

  • Jo Jo has come a long way since his days as "Screech" on Saved By The Bell.

  • @rgvhen

    lolololololololol

  • @rgvhen that was Justin Diamond.......

  • @rgvhen oh that really i5 him?!

  • PRECISION!!!

  • he should do his hair curly again. That's his true secret weapon. He had a cowbell in there. That's why you always hear it, but never see him hit it.

  • You'll never see Portnoy w/anything like this guys great technique.

  • wow he's awesome!

  • an incredible man and musician

  • Does he have a nondominant hand? lol

  • @iPwnsYou297 Seriously

  • Jojo just had a clinic here in Tampa not too long ago and damn.. This guys middle name is endurance.

  • this guy is good but it makes me sad that people look at him and try to mimic him. and the results are just awful, playin like that sucsessfully is so fuckin hard

  • You can't feel bad about being worse than a robot. Because this dude is a robot.

  • he is good, but he looks like a goldfish with the way he kept opening his mouth :)

  • this guy left hand is great

  • I love the sound of his whole set.. beautiful.

Just posted my video response playing a groove from his DVD, check it out! ;)

  • wtf was that move at 1:40?!

  • Comment removed

  • @rwebiscool He muted the head with his fingers. by sliding his fingers across the head instead of merely laying them down like a brick, he made the decay smoother and more legato, instead of a short and harsh decay.

  • @masonfatfrog It also bent the pitch, if you listen. It's an awesome effect that I still cant figure out how to do. It must be a knack to figure out on coated heads, but I dont play on coated heads either.. so... :P

  • @Kelavmeister right. when you apply tension to a head, the pitch is increased. when you reduce the tension, pitch is lowered. just as this occurs when you tune the heads (by tightening the lugs), so the pitch can be bent by applying tension with you hands/sticks/etc. He didn't just place his fingers on the head to reduce vibration, he pressed into the head with his fingers which caused the pitch to bend upward.

  • @masonfatfrog Yup... I know dude, I'm a drummer too, haha. I was more commenting on how he dips the pitch with that finger sweep which I cant do because I dont play on coated heads... my finger has to much traction on clear heads so it just.... stops!

  • @Kelavmeister haha, it's all good.

  • @Kelavmeister He wets his finger and hit his drum, then he slides his finger against the tone vibrations on the coated tom heads surface to produce the pitch bend..

  • @morpheusdrummer ....I know?? hahahah I don't if you didn't read my comment or something, I understand how it works, I just cant do it because of what I play on. But it's still not a simple thing to do. There's actually another Jojo solo where he attempts it a number of times, and it doesn't work. It's a tricky little knack. I just don't play on a kit with a 10-12" tom with a coated head, unfortunately.

  • @Kelavmeister You can do it on all sizez of drums just not bassdrums.. I dont think its tricky.. averything seems alot more tricky than they really are when you get them..

  • @morpheusdrummer The same physics apply to bass drums as any other drum... So you definitely can do it, it just might not be as audible. I think it's tricky under my circumstances; with no coated heads and bigger/lower tensioned toms.

  • I have this DVD and it has helped me so much. i recommend this to anyone that wants to get better at drums because it will change the way you play i swear

  • ne one can play as good as him...he just has countless years and hours ahead of most of us

  • he looks blind here. lol!

  • One of the most influential drummers to date. If I could play half as well as him... I'd be very very happy.

  • im so baked

  • Its a givn that most people say that Buddy Rich was the benchmark!

I am yet to see anyone play like him...JOJO is the closest .steve smith and .weckl i are close as well... Lang . Donati . Phillips, are or have become " Soloists " ..like virtuoso Violin players! But u gota admiot jojo has so much feelllllllll man!!! Fuck he is so smooth ! Lang and donati are fucking brutes !!! great but brutes . jojo dances on the skins virgil and lang rape em!

  • What kind of finish is that on the Cymbals? Sabian must be hiding some bomb-ass shit.

  • @drummakid101 those are 'just' sabian Vaults i guess;fierce etc.

  • he's got complete four limb independence

  • Masteeeeer

  • The More I see him play ..the more he blows me away!!!

he has it all Speed , Feel, Chops, Timing.....and that effortless ability to make it just look so amazing and entertaining!! He has so much power for a Jazz style drummer .....I mean he is like a jazz funk . almost fusion player ....but the most scintillating aspect of what he does is his Musicality ......I love Virgil as well ...but man ....his music is hard going ......Jojo is percussionnmusak!!!1

  • @candidcomment he's a very well rounded drum and bass drummer. One of my favorite drummers of all time if not my favorite. Buy this DVD it's amazing

  • @WillWatson23 What does the dvd contain? Im not a drummer but as a pianist this sweet music to my years. How on earth does he keep to time that well. He's got to have at least five different signatures he's following at the same time in the second solo.

  • @MrJackanthony

It's pretty much just a guide to hand technique for drummers, this is just a video of one of the solos he played as an intermission on the DVD. It's a great buy for drummers but as pianist you will get little to nothing from it.

  • @WillWatson23 Thanks. So Im guessing this is not a begginers instructional video? Reallyt thinking of getting acquainted with the drums as well. If this isnt could you recommend a dvd meant for newbies? Thanks again and take care.

  • @MrJackanthony This is only an excerpt. The DVD consists mostly of detailed explanations and examples of basic and advanced hand techniques that are very useful for both beginners and professionals. Right now, it is the most comprehensive/coherent and clear guide of that kind.

  • @danieljanca Thanks. I will try to get this dvd even just to see this guy play. Take care.

  • If you like this, then chek him out with his band Nerve.

Search: Jojo Mayer & Nerve - Jabon

That's crazy all the way through, but at the end it's insane :)

  • @mudniva That was crazy man. Thanks showing me that!

  • how does this have 20 dislikes? are there 20 people in the world that can't appreciate this?

  • @Sentraman4 Ya dude, they're called haters.

  • Trying to stay optimistic in that I hope someday I can be as good as this guy... If it means I have to up from 2-3 hours to 7-10 hours then so be it, I just want to be somewhere near as good as this guy. He's just so awesome xD I must have his groove damnit! xD

  • this is too sick!

  • OMG cannot wait till this comes out! lol

  • Comment removed

  • I wan't his hands! Definitely my favorite drummer.

  • He has such an interesting drum sound.

  • I agree with PositivelyBored. Notice how most drummers say drumming just felt natural to them?

  • my premise - guys like Jojo, Royster Jr, Buddy were all playing between 1 and 4 years old and playing proficiently! I'm sorry, but blood sweat and tears may occur as a toddler but not THOSE kind. Natural ability and God-gifted direction helped them here. Not everyone has "it", although it isn't always necessary to have "it" if one works hard enough and has proper guidance.

  • @PositivelyBored ... i agree about those types of people . A good analogy is to look at pro athletes ... for the most part everyone in the NBA has ridiculous talent and they all work hard and practice but they will still never be as good as Lebron or Kobe .... it is the same thing in music ... people like Jo Jo , or Vinnie , or Andy Fisenden are just born with special talent that the rest of us dont have , no matter how much we practice .

  • That is something to be proud of though, for me and you and these ridiculously skilled drummers. For us, it's a high water mark to "Get there". For them, it's a challenege to take it even further. Everyone wins.
