I just wonder how many people call Amtrak everyday for service to Scranton everyday ? It's July 2010 trains are running sold out on all long distance routes in a recession!
Steamtown looks like it does because of not having any money! The mall should not have been built where it is. The China wall which was the Lackawanna passenger mainline was removed for this project. Someday no matter what the lobbyist for the highways. the bus companys and airlines do. The trains will return. Downtown will come back, it has too! Just wait and see what oil prices in the future do to air service!
Remember all these busineses are still there their just outside along the new highways which distroy cities built by railroads. Which were taxed along with their tickets and the money added to trust funds to build airports and highways! Now we have oil spills and and wars for oil, etc. The highway, bus, air people lobby to keep the trains dead in the US. While the world builds High Speed Rail, and invests in cities.
i love this blog. I makes my appreciate where i was born and raised. i now live in houston texas where the courthouses look like shacks, the homes are all the same. Scranton has history and its a calming feeling to see how much art has been around me for a long part of my life.

Do you have the mp3 for "The Harshest Place on Earth" ??
I watched March of the Penguins for a Media Studies assignment and fell in love with it.
