Get yourself a rocking chair out on a street corner and put out a hat, Paul. If you're pickin' that good when you're just foolin' around on YouTube, might as well rake in a bunch of money while you're at it.
This is absolutely fantastic. I know very little of music but your banjo music is just awe inspiring. Very happy to have stumbled across your videos. They are all so great to listen to and just absorb.
@strumstering And of course I can come to realize I seriously enjoy listening to the banjo. Perhaps you could record some more of your talents? And of course your nearly as impressive hat collection.
@DasRaskalKing Hi, thanks for listening to my music. It's true, I haven't recorded any videos in quite a while. Thanks for encouraging me to do so. Lately I've been posting my music on banjohangoutdotcom in the Sound-Off section under my name, Paul Roberts. I've been doing a lot of music on a wooden banjo -- a mandola-lute tuned like a 5-string banjo. But I do intend to start putting up videos again. Please stay tuned.
@KingMilesTagoyet Hey KingMiles, thanks for your comment. I'm really glad you enjoyed it. I'm heading over to your channel to hear what you've got going.
@Getyouryayas Thanks Steven. It's wonderful to get the feedback that a connection has occurred; that's what makes it all worthwhile. I appreciate your comment.
Paul just beautiful .. I really want to try one of the six string GT 's for dADGAD as in sawmill in D .. . Fun . I remember Bob Carlin as a young guy teaching banjo at a summer camp in Connecticut in the early 70's when I was playing square dances around there .. Nice he had his own instrument . All the best , Guy Sorry we lost both Mike Seeger and Ray Alden this season .. Gone but not forgotten .
I'm using index, middle and ring fingers - individually and together. When I'm fretting the first and third strings together, I'm hitting the first string with ring and the third string with index, which allows me to get a two string chord on nonadjacent strings. .
You're description of "American surbahar" is apt; I also play sitar and sarod.
what?? you wrote this piece??? god, you're really talented!!! :D i play the mandolin but you make me wanna start playing banjo too! :D

Very nice tune, well played. Sort of like an American surbahar. Quesion: Which are you using, index or middle?
lorentzinvariant 2 years ago
