  • With all do respect @happybuddha33:

I don't mind to butt in, but I couldn't help seeing the comments below - being Indian isn't something to put on & take off like clothing. Being Indian isn't about nationality. The Bangladeshis & many Pakistanis were 'Indian' by nationality less than a century ago. We're Indian period. It's in our blood - and not even lack of the original mother tongue language can take that away. It's ridiculous to nitpick about language when India has so many...

  • @GizaStar Sorry to reply so late. I'm not nitpicking about language. Culture is culture. Blood is blood. Nationality is nationality. Indian culture permeates Pakistan, Bengal, Bangladesh, Guyana and Trinidad...all people born from these nations though, bare the nationality of the same.

  • can you send me that picture ? please

  • The oldies Version Is Much Hotter Nd Them trini Pple jst copy the Indian pple music nd put it in there own lolz

  • actually we didn't copy the song it's only the beginning of this song that is used in the other version as a comparison of both songs, then switches into a whole lot of other lyrics with the same beat and it's called dulahin chalay sasurai..amazing isn't it ;]

  • so what we trinis is not indian too?

  • No, you're Trinidadian.

India. Trinidad & Tobago. Two different nations.

Much of Indo-Trinidadian culture can be related/referenced to Indian culture (although Indian culture is extremely varied depending on where you are), it doesn't really "mirror" per se, Indian culture.

Like the African descended peoples of Trinidad. Some aspects resemble West African culture, but it is still strikingly different and not synonymous.

  • @happybuddha33 technically, those who are indo caribbean are indian. my great grandparents were born in india, however due to the british rule, we were forced into the Caribbean, and thus we created our culture there. not to say that we forgot our indian roots. i'm a guyanese-american, but i speak fluent hindi and i understand sanskrit. so we are technically indian if you trace our roots.

  • @Vina410 I know the history, but I stand by my statement. Guyanese people are Guyanese. You're "Indian" by DNA and your culture, traditions, etc. are from India, but *nationally* you aren't Indian and haven't been for generations.

If you do speak Hindi, are one of the SCARCE few Indo-Caribbeans that does...and even if you do, I doubt it's the same as the Bhojpuri/Avadhi Hindi dialects of your ancestors...because even that isn't spoken in India today the way it was when your ancestors left.

  • @happybuddha33 you are correct in saying that we're nationally not indian, that we identify with being indocaribbean, and im not bhojpuri. i'm from Madhya Pradesh and Punjab, so i did learn the correct languages. my grandfather speaks pure urdu and hindi, so the languages are correct, but none the less, we'er TECHNICALLY indian. so they're no use to fight it. we came from the same place, even if it was generations ago. My last name is one of the most FAMOUS indian last names! Sharma. lol

  • @Vina410 Wow. The name 'Sharma' is UNDENIABLY Punjabi. LOL I like "pure" Urdu and Hindi. I really wouldn't call either of those languages pure, but I understand your point. Again, you're a scarce few. Much respect to you and your family for maintaining your culture. The only point I'm trying to make is that Indo-Caribbean culture is very distinct from the cultures of India. Like my grandma says, "If looks like a crow, it could still be a raven." :]

  • @Vina410 .....hello Vina; indians did not come to the W.I. under duress { forced } they were indentured labourers { payment involved }............ah trini........

  • i didn't say trinis aren't indian, [im a hindu/trinidadian btw..] i said that we didn't copy the song, it's a comparison of both songs

  • happybuddha33 is right, we aren't Indian at all. We are Trinidadian, or to be exact, Indo-Trinidadian. The Indian identity is a national one, the one that is attained to the state of India. And the word Indian is from the British. India is really called Hindustan or Bharat.

  • If you met other Indians or people of the Indian diaspora, and told them you were Indian, they would ask where in India are you from. You would then look very silly and say, no I'm from Trinidad. But if you live in Trinidad or Guyana, I think it is fine to call yourself Indian. However when you meet others of the diaspora, you should call yourself Trinidadian or Guyanese. And btw, most Indians don't accept Trini/Guyanese as their own, lol ....

  • Which is why I was replying to RUKAN1416, not you. lol

I too am of Indo-Trini descent and am hindu.

It's just kinda annoying when Trini Indians claim stuff from India that isn't theirs, nor their ancestors. I mean, our (as Trinis) ancestors came from Bihar and spoke Bhojpuri NOT Hindi and Bihari culture is rich in and of itself...it's just annoying to see Indo-Trinis latching on to Bollywood as a reference to Indian culture...=S

  • lol

  • Trust me Trinis, Indians from India do not consider us their own. So enjoy their music and their movies, but remember that its our past that links us to them. Our present and our future are necessarily Trinbagonian. Be proud that that is who we are. We are a great people and we too are capable of great things.

  • i agree

  • my god sir i am a trini to the bone of indian decent and you just bought tears to my ears it is so true and i don't understand why they don't like us and our fore fathers were from india how ironic and to re literate what you said be proud of who and what we are as west indians its a good thing thank you and take care have a good day merry christmas and a happy new year to you and yours

  • Dear Sumaiya: let me tell you a story it happened to me about 35 years back in one big city in North America. I was very new and there were not very many brown people in this city at that time.

Goras were not very helpful I was lost and trying to find my way around.

My eyes lit up when I saw two brown guys

Are you from India, I asked ?

Prompt came the reply, No we are Trini and kept on walking and all I could hear they said they are not Indians. That was my interaction with Trini

    sa,

  • @sam14450 Dear Sam i am so very sorry for your experience sir it broke my heart when i read you comment but ironically i had the same experience like you from the indians from india when i live in canada and i could not have understood why that treatment because i was indian like them except from the west instead of the east you know sir its goes both ways sometimes you know its sad but it is true any way thanks for sharing and take care and have a good day and happy new year to you

  • Dear Sumaiya999.

In the last four decades I worked /or had some interaction with people from Trinidad and

    Guyana.

No doubt they will remain Indian race even after 1000 years in these countries.

I beg to say since their forefathers left India about 100 or more years ago, with time and western influence Indian culture diluted with time. Most of them I found are/were pick and choose, most of time they will associate with Goras and when they see fit will claim their Indian heritage.

  • @sam14450 dear sam i had some problems with my computer but i am ok now happy new year to you sir i agree with your comment to a certain degree i being a smart trinidadian indian women certainly don't pick and choose my indian heritage i love being a smart trinidadian indian women it is such a good thing to have a magnificent heritage like we do and i am so very proud of it and to hell with others who don't like it lol take care sir bye

  • everyone at school thinks that I am not a Hindu because I from Guyana.......... thank you for understandingg :D

  • Dear Sunny 1132106 Hinduism is one the oldest and greatest religion on the earth, it teaches love and peace, whether you are Hindu or not. It does not matter what people think it is most important what you think about yourself. God does not and did not divide Its sons and daughters based on countries, He loves everyone, we all are servants in His kingdom. These countries are man made, love everyone and hate no one, all things are creations of Almighty we call different names to the Great Lord.

  • @sam14450 lol yup :)

  • Thank you for being human :) may God bless you always!

  • Dear sumaiya 999

At the end of the day we should love and respect everyone. Indian culture taught us to respect everything living they even worship trees and not to hurt anyone. No matter where one is from, Indian traditionally showed respect to everyone.

Indian heart is a very big one, almost every single race come and go from India. In the end all got absorbed in great civilization.

India did not send even one soldier and won the heart with Budhism China, Japan, Korea..... the list goes on.

  • Does anyone have the audio for Khamrune Ali & Sally Edwards version from Love the Essence of Life Vol 2.

  • At the groom's house, the baraat has arrived,

And the groom's mother blesses them both with the aarti,

The bride is on her way.

She is on her way to her in-laws in a motor-car,

The bride is on her way.

  • Drive the motor-car carefully, slowly, slowly,

The groom is lovingly protecting his bride,

She is on her way to her in-laws.

Both the bride and groom exchange sweet words,

They are shyly smiling and laughing together,

On their way in a motor-car,

The bride is on her way.

  • translayon for this song...3 posts i have to make... post 1 O Bride, who is about to depart, Go with happiness, But always remember the relations you leave behind, For we are the sad ones who remain, Do not forget us, Do not forget us. The bride is on her way to her in-laws, She is on her way in a motor-car, The bride is on her way.
