it makes me think of my lil ones...i have 2 hand-raised pressa canarios. talk about the perfect defense...if someone wants in the fridge...lol...i know they will defend me if needed, but until then my fiance and i just have fun with our lil goof balls. this is a great breed as long as you do your research, keep them active and i took the extra measure and switched them th Biological Appropiate Raw Foods.. Talk about Jaw Power!
i heard these dogs were on the brink of extinction, people who wanted to save the breed, bred them with what was left, 1 out of four breeds of dogs that dont have a genetic profile.
I have a pressa canario. She is 6 years old. She is a big baby with children and a very good watchdog. She is lovable and the perfect pet for our family. You have to do your reading on these dogs before you buy one. They are not for everyone. You have to train these dogs to be loving and still protective at the right time which is hard because they are a blood animal, they sense adreniline. Any one wanting one of these dogs should talk to the Perro de pressa canario club of america.
Yes, experienced owner, but no, they were originally just farm dogs. They guarded the home and farm much like the Rottweiler before becoming a guard dog. Presa Canarios were not and are not fighting dogs. Yes, they are now used as such, but originally they were not because they were exclusive to the Canary Islands and Spain, got popular in the 90s'.
y are you so againts people having these dogs? i take care of a pitbull and hes great, i dont play tug of war with him , i dont teach him to be violent, i raised him like my child, he has nevr bit me or anything like that. trust me ill take good care of all my dogs there like my family.
I am not against it at all. Don't be offended, dude. I'm just looking at the fact. Two people have DIED because one didn't know what kind of dog they had and the other had bad neighbors trying to train the dogs to kill. I only wanted to show you this video, not for you to get all worked up and sensitive about it.
And it is not just THIS dog, it's any dog. I work in a shelter where a lot of dogs are there b/c owners don't research them, you may can't understand that, but that's my concern.
oh no im not offended at all . its good that your informing people, i agree with you a 100%, i hate when people buy these type of dogs and treat them like shit or make them violent.
@ericdelossantos1 i think u like crack.. cuz dogo and presa are the same thing theres no difference in the breed at all. and yes some do mix there dogs with great danes ive heard . the real presa canario is irema curto . short and buff . straight kill machines.
@yabodmon WTF !!! presa canario and dogo canario are not the same you should read first before you post such a stupid thing, tell any true presario that, and you will get your ass kick, so watch it.
They were bred to fight but then became used as farm dogs, they were created when the english came to the islands and brought their love for fighting dogs with them. The islanders made this dog by mixing all the english dog breeds to make the ultimate fighting dog.
It's cute when a 5 lb chihuahua does this. Not when a 120 lb Presa Canario does this.. youre teaching it that aggression is good, when really, it's the other way around. When it's older, it'll think that children's faces are good to nip at
Really that's small dog syndrome. You should not allow any dog to do this, because you're saying it's ok to nip at humans, regardless of size, agression, it is unacceptable.
if you are going to have a powerful breed like that you need to teach him discipline and affection what he is doing there is agression that you are not correcting you are actually making it worst. you have to do some research before you get involved with a fighting breed, they can be great dogs if well balanced, so anyway do some research and you hopefully will never have problems.
Wow lol reminds me of my lil one :P i have a bull mastiff/boxer (both of her parents are purebred) and when she was about 2 months old she started doing that, and i thought it was funny and cute...shes now just hit 5 months, 50 pounds, and still does it...and sometimes and can be quite painful lol, luckily though when i tell her to stop she listens right away :)
(Though i taught her in german commands, so really i just say Nein! lol)
my baby Presa canario can tear some metal up in a jiffy so watch it when he gets big >:(

ive noticed two types of pressa, one that has a great dane look and another that resembles a doberman pinscher,i think one is called a dogo canario .
ericdelossantos1 2 years ago
Nah, Dogo Canario just means Canary Dog. It's full name is Perro de Presa Canario. You might be looking at mixed dogs.
HammandClov 2 years ago
actually the ones that look like other dogs are not true spanish pressas but bred with greatdanes and such.

exactly and it will be hard to control and will probably attack stangers for no reason.
