Beautiful little toucanet! I've always had a secret desire to own one of these but they're very demanding (and expensive!) and don't make good pets. Besides, I already have my hands full with my quaker parrot.

I developed a (not so secret) desire to own one, and not just any one, but this particular one, while I was there so close to him!

I kept saying, "I want to take him home with me!" the whole time.

whether an animal makes a good or bad pet is all a matter of opinion, but in my opinion they are excellent pets. I haven't yet heard from anybody that's had a toucan of any kind that doesn't think they are great pets. They have unique dietary needs, and generally like to have a lot of affection and time to play interactively with their owner's, but if you can provide that for them they really are wonderful. As with any pet it's all about doing some research to know what you are getting into.

I will definitely do the research to see if we can have a toucanet as a pet. The part about their needing affection and having someone to play interactively with them would not be a problem because that is what we have always done with all our pets, even the scorpion and the tarantula.
