  • Super job!

  • What bullshit, Stauber is one of the biggest propagandists out there, one need look no further than his flagrant lies about Mad Cow disease and his shameless PETA apologism to see that. Shame none of his devotees can be bothered to look up where much of his own funding comes from.

  • No, no, no! Too many people do not know the difference between Public Relations, Marketing and Advertising. Jeez!

Public Relations deals with the promotion of ideas, people and the communication and public perception (image, knowledge and positive thought of the people behind the message) between these.

Marketing is making targeted groups WANT a product.

Adverstising is marketing tool to engrain the need of said product.

Broadcastion is a form of communication, therefore PR.

  • @sidvidle * Broadcasting*, sorry for the typo.

Just because advertising firms have a ''PR' department, it doesn't mean they are about PR, just a way of manipulating the public into endorsing their client's products. They are about product and money. Not about ideas and people.

  • Saw how DEVIANT these people are in a Documentary about marketing to kids , they use psychologists to watch kids in Bathrooms to devise better ways to market bathroom stuff to them and parents , ie toothbrush toothpaste etc etc. , after paying parents for right to monitor their kids of course .

The whole business is deceitful , manipulative , and exactly the same as the Entertainment business .

  • "public relations" was invented by a satanic genius named edward bernays. there are a number of really good documentaries you can look up on YT called "century of the self". all about the evil EB

  • The Public Relations industry in America is extremely sexist against men. 80% of all PR professionals are women and many firms actually brand themselves as "feminist firms". What hypocritical sexism...this video is misleading.

  • the greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world that he didn't exist

  • Public Relations doesn't pay YOU - why buy it?

  • PR firms not necessarily mean propaganda. Propaganda is an old thing, though its use is now more sophisticated. But today the role of PR firms is more than doing only propaganda. It also includes corporate reputation management.

  • In the video he states "Public relations is the way propaganda is waged in the United States". In this age of globalism the PR message inserted into news content or cleverly weaved into an entertainment production script may just as easily originate overseas. In fact there's a massive investment being made by non-democratic countries in the PR realm. It's insidious.

  • "To achieve world government, it is necessary to remove from the minds of men their individualism, loyalty to family traditions, national patriotism and religious dogmas."

Dr. George Brock Chisholm, first head of the World Health Organization

  • You neglected in your industry summary non profit organizations/charities, hospitals, government organizations vital to democracy etc. Please demonstrate both sides. True, there is a dark side to the industry but a lot of good work is done that should not be typecast in the same way.

  • @HyacinthGirl84 Most far leftists only care to accentuate the negative when it comes to videos like this. To do otherwise would be admitting that they are just as wrong about their observations just as those on the far right are wrong about theirs even though both are entitled their opinions.

  • Ugh... I hate the connotations that surround the word "propaganda"...

  • @53v3N7 So do I.

  • Way to generalise an entire industry...

  • @53v3N7 Exactly.

  • PUBLIC RELATIONS is the communication between an organization an its publics!!!!!

  • Fine, but do these organizations have the right to influence journalistic integrity? I say they don't.

  • No, they don't have that right. And a good PR firm doesn't try to do that. Ethics are crucial to good PR practice. A PR practitioner simply provides the information a journalist may be interested in. They do not force or bribe anyone to publish the information.

  • just because our origins are in propoganda, and some firms still use propaganda as a tool does not mean that it is what* or all* that we do. Just because I have a glass of wine at supper doesn't make me an alcoholic.

This video is propoganda. its anti Public Relations. I'm a PR student and I promise* we don't sit in class and talk about manipulating. We talk about honesty, clear communications, relationships. Public Relations can be summed up as this: do good and tell others about it.

  • watch my featured video...

PSY OPS are waged against us by mainstream media / d. o. d.

    now you're really a student...

  • PR are the first two letters of PRopaganda, you know.

  • After I started researching a man by the name of Edward Bernays, and understood propaganda, coercion, and so much more,I never took part in ANY surveys,be they on the net,or by phone,or as I'm walking into the grocery store.I'm sure a lot of people can relate to that,"Excuse me sir,do you mind just taking a minute to answer some questions for this survey?" Survey's are a way to judge people's opinions, thoughts, spending habits, you name it so the big business or gov can manipulate the populace.

  • The definition of Public Relations is:

The management function which evaluates public attitudes, identifies the policies and procedures of an individual or organization with the public interest, and plans, executes, and evaluates a program of action to earn public understanding and acceptance.

  • Public relation is the deliberate , planned and sustained effort to establish n maintain goodwill and understanding between an organization and its public. (:

  • PR was initially built up from propaganda, you can debate this all you like but that's the truth and that's where it came from but after the years PR has evolved and has become an ethical practice and in today's business wold that is the #1 priorirty in PR,however back in the day it was all about "spin" im studying PR as a major the history of it points propaganda but in today's sense it has evolved but it also depends on how corrupt the PR officer is as well lol...

  • The definition of Public Relations is:

According to PR. Agreed with ErikadelCastillo.

  • bigger corps have a library on pr, a crisis pr room,

and ppl that go through the newspapers everyday.

on the internet , they also pop up.

mark the comments and general cluelessnes

and on special threads all the sudden an "expert"

pops up and knows every formula ever formulated!

    There you haveit(good song)

  • sheeps ftw???

  • I totally agree with you JunerroseX!! Public Relations is the management function which evaluates public attitudes, identifies the policies and procedures of an individual or organization with the public interest, and plans, executes, and evaluates a program of action to earn public understanding and acceptance. I wouldnt put it any other way =)

  • It's very contradicting of you to even respond to this as so, you have given the maker of this video greater control over your resources then one might think, un doing your own jobs unbelievable.

  • Propaganda is PR depending on the product more, but either way look up Edward Bernays and stop your spin you have soiled your credentials, only morons argue advertising isn't propaganda.

  • every advertisement is propaganda by its sincere definition, market propaganda. How can you argue this?

  • PR is not propaganda. The person behind this video isn't smart, otherwise they would have read a dictionary or studied the profession before making a blanket accusation that has no supporting evidence. Probably a high schooler too. Stupid kids, go get a job.

  • On the contrary, the business of propagating ideas is propaganda by definition.

  • Best answer yet ludosphist!

  • Most PR people write press releases and reports on the company clients....that is propoganda??

  • you must have the IQ of a tree to think PR equals propoganda. Please know thge definition of PR and propoganda before spreading lies

  • PR Watch= Idiots who couldn't get work in PR. Public Relations is supposed to combat propaganda. Propaganda is usually political and detrimental. A good campaign informs and should spur the audience on to find out more. Like I am doing right now about "PR Watch"

  • first off i work in PR, so i do know more than most of you. it's my industry. this video points out the obvious. do you really believe McDonalds would help children's cancer charity if it weren't for PR?? Public Relations holds corporations accountable to public approval!! This helps balance out extreme capitalism!! it's not all about spin and propaganda! Grow up children!

  • great video. i agree 100%

  • Ok, this is completely stupid. First off PR is against lying because that only leads to more problems when the truth comes out. Secondly, advertising is not going to get you to buy something you don't want. For instance, a wonder bra ad isn't going to make me go out to buy a bra. Public Relation doesn't try and manipulate news they try to pass along the information of the organization to the proper individuals and publics. They don't try to manipulate the world.

  • You couldent be so wrong. Wake up

  • Yes there are always going to be people out there who are underhanded and unethical but that exist in every profession. There are doctors who could care less about a patient and more about padding their bank accounts. All that said, I believe the majority of PR professionals are against unethical means, I haven't met one yet working in the field that has told me to lie. Also, your comment should have said "more wrong" not so wrong and it is couldn't.

  • Chinaty you're an idiot! The average PR person has nothing to do with this. Propaganda is not PR. Propaganda is propaganda. Public Relations is everything from publicity of an actor to creating a campaign for a corporation/company to donate money to charity. Aren't those good things??? Ya know, holding companies liable to public opinion??? You are the one who is brainwashed by this ignorant stereotype of how things really run. Idiot read a book!

  • This is what is really happening: Most people are rejecting the left-wing socialist message. The left doesn't believe this, and thinks we're being manipulated. The left thinks we're all malleable morons who can't think for ourselves. With each successive presidential election we'll see a conservative win by a larger and larger margin. Americans are rejecting global warming, the UN, socialized medicine, gun control, etc. It's going to be fun watching liberals wig out as they lose control.

  • I totally have to disagree with you. I honestly don't think the majority of Americans really think for themselves. I think history proves that America jumps. For instance, the country is currently in economic hardship, this is a duhhh, but instead of research and figure out which candidate will better assist us in ending this economic slump, it is easier to say ok Bush is in power. Bush=Republican, therefore if we elect a democrat then things will get better. This is the sad truth of our country

  • Comment removed

  • listen chick..and btw stupider isn't a word either AND you spelled propaganda wrong so get off my ass.anyways.. i won't be spitting "evil" propaganda to the public. i bet you're into sci-fi stuff too.

  • did it ever occur to you, you're retarded?

  • Listen, I'm a PR major, and I am sure as hell not a conspirator. Shit like this makes people like me seem evil, and that is not the case at all. All we are, are people helping companies or people make or keep an image. A good PR agent will not blatantly lie.

  • I'm a PR major too, and yes we will not lie. Everyone get your facts straight, PR and advertising are two different things. PR is when we present free information to news media, and its upto them what they show and how they present it.

  • meh.. I work as a flash designer for a small "behind the scenes" PR company. Their primary goal is to sell their client's products, rather than brain wash and manipulate. However if you want to believe there is a global PR conspiracy, power to you and your tin foil hat! The truth is that everybody has to pay a mortgage. This video is hypocritical, that is that.

  • I'm glad you are watchdogging those firms or individuals that are deceptive. This said, your piece seems to imply that all PR firms and companies are just hucksters and con artists.

I think you give too little credence to the weight of the truth in PR campaigns, and the role of journalists to vet disingenuous campaigns. In fact, with the advent of YouTube and blogging, it's even MORE important to be straight or very quickly and harshly, you will be exposed.

  • this is nothin watch the whole documentary "Toxic Sludge is good for you"in my videos ( 5 parts)

  • this is video is very true i agree all the way, these companies try to make ppl believe things about products, i saw this video recently on globaganda(dot)com it's pretty good propaganda

  • watch toxic sludge is good for you!!!

  • This is quite a stupid example of people who doesn't understand advertising in the first time. We have perpetuated this message, anyhow you want to call it, manipulation, propaganda, indoctrination of some sort.. But you have the freedom to choose, it is the most important, It doesn't mean that if everyone drinks coke you have to too.

  • You should watch the whole 4 hour documentary before you render an uneducated opinion on 10 minutes of it.

The documentary is called "The Century of the Self".

  • I agree. There are devices in hollywood that listen to what radio station people listen to and use this data to find what people like.

  • PR = advocacy speech. Labeled as such, and attributed to its source, nothing wrong with it. I represent OJ Simpson and I say if the glove don't fit, you must acquit!

Propaganda = advocacy disguised as neutral information, concealing the source of the message. There's a Brazilian "tech news" publication, for example, that doubles (quietly) as a PR agency. Biggest client: Microsoft. InfomediaTV of Porto Alegre. Skeevy.

  • well this should come under the no-shit section.

  • You should watch the whole documentary before rendering an uneducated opinion on it.

It's called "The Century of the Self".

  • awesome.

  • The guy reminds me of Dave Gilmour :-)

  • Ron Paul for Truth in America.

  • Wrong place but take out the Paris reference and it pretty much applies. As Bill Hicks would say, those of you in marketing and PR... Kill Yourself. Seriously.

  • Sorry posted in the wrong place :(

  • The only reason these puppets would feel uncomfortable talking about Paris is because it's like looking in a mirror... immorality and corruption. Paris won't leave behind long term scars. But the scar these liars leave behind will be written about in history books. Years or decades from now generations will finally stand up to the burgeoning Orwellian police state that is currently being ushered in by these cheerleaders.

  • Its pretty hard to locate not to mention listen to beautiful music, when all around it are huge drums banging loudly 24/7

  • University sells idealism ... but Universities are not leaders in this industry - they're painfully naiive followers. University teaches comparative data, but they don't teach comparative methods, unless it's done forensically. Universities like to pretend they're leading edge, but campuses have been so corporatized, how would they know ? PR has always been in the service of commerce.

  • in other words

do not rock the boat or the funds dry up

  • You'll have to forgive Kristina and others for their institutional biases. Public Relations IS propaganda (so says Bernays, who coined the term) and it is not benign or neutral at all. It's Wall Street capitalism aka non-consensual public culture (to answer the Qs about organic advertisements. Corporations price the would-be local messages right out of the market (newspapers, magazines, TV, billboards etc).

  • I am sorry, but this pseudo-scientifical nonsense. Bernays coined the term long before the Nazis occupied and violated it (meanings change honey!)Be careful with half-knowledge like that! PR delivers informations to media and those decide what to make of it. Of course this information isn't allways neutral, but why should it? PR is just a service and Greenpeace e.g. does nothing more or less. If journalists believe the arguments is their problem - not the problem of Greenpeace!

  • Bernays coined the phrase in 1919 after the Paris Peace Conference. Half Knowledge ? What's that ? Pseudo-science applies to science - this is social science. The work of amateur social scientists trying to achieve anti-social objectives through lies.

  • That's what I said, isn't it? 1919 and long before the Nazis occupied the phrase and changed it's meaning forever. Half-knowledge means only knowing half of the relevant facts.

  • All the facts = information. Some of the facts = indoctrination. That's the litmus test for neutrality. Propaganda is, by definition, indoctrination and not neutral. Propaganda is, and as far as I know, always has meant continuing war-time censorship during peace-time. The target, or purpose changed - from external enemy to internal.

  • Hello 4449911: I am interested in your educated opinion regarding mass group religions or 'group think'. Do you believe them to be a form of indoctrination or propoganda? A closed group or cult, if you will; are they, in point of fact- by your definition, indoctrination?

  • It's a form of class warfare and secret societies are just well-fed lap dogs of the elitists. The Christian faith is unique for its Mystery Schools, which creates Jesuits and Knights of columbus on the Catholic side of the Western Schism ... and Freemasons and Shriner's on the Protestant side. These groups facilitate the non-consensual public culture with pom-poms.

  • I agree with all you say and I also believe 'cults' to be secret societies that render their membership catatonic; residing in a world where their mind is unreachable, destroyed by group-think and group-speak and rendering these persons unable to face reality, interact normally and make positive and mature decisions:)

  • You clearly did not understand what 4449911 was saying.

You should watch the whole documentary to render an educated opinion on it.

It's called "The Century of the Self".

  • This message is to you that posted this video or anyone that can help me.

I am a Brazilian student girl of PR and would like to understand more about this video, but I have some difficult to hear in english. I would be very happy if you can write what he says in this video.

    Thanks a lot.

    Roberta

  • Working in a PR agency at the moment, in the online strategies department. I seem to recall the word propaganda being used here to be synonymous with public relations. The aim of propaganda is to influence people's opinions or behaviors actively, rather than merely to communicate the facts about something. Public Relations is about relating to the publics what you deem to be important, which stems from correct communication and research. This video tries to generalize way too much.

  • Trying to draw a distinction between PR and propaganda is like saying that nectarines are not peaches. The truth is that you wouldn't need public relations if your aim was not to "influence people's opinions or behaviours". I think you believe too much of your own spin or rather your agency's spin.

  • I am a MA Public Relations student and watching this video simply amuses me. Do all these people, who are talking about PR as some manipulative monster, know how a world without PR would be able to exist?

Without PR companies, journalists would have to get the stories by themselves, which is extremely time consuming. Without PR the public would never get informed about certain things.

PR is not as visible as advertising, but that doesn't turn the whole industry into a propaganda monster.

  • There is a difference between advertising and simple factual announcements.

  • Quick example. Product Coke. Outline.

Case A. Sweet Drink with Carbonated Water available at most supermarkets.

Case B. Enjoy the superb taste of coke. Watch all the cool young kids around enjoying themselves with a coke in their hand. Look at their smiles. They are so happy.

    A versus B

B manipulates and is the preferred method.

  • this, i would consider is marketing and not public relations. PR usually represents and asserts opinions for entire companies, their mission and purposes.

marketing often focuses on specific products and how to best place them in the consumers minds.

Example --off the top of my head. :)

A marketer would figure out how to get a student to buy a ticket to the "big game" at a college.

a PR guy would try to create an opinion of the college to influence him/her to attend.

  • The department that sends public information warnings out about health scares?

  • That is slightly different than advertising for consumer products or services.

  • What about the person who sends press releases out for the charity they work for, to tell the local press about free training events they are organising?

  • If its a simple statement of fact without using tricks....

  • the jury's out on this for me. although highlighting some of the more dubious practices of PR, it does daub the entire industry with the same brush. A little like calling all journalism gutter-tabloid spin...

  • All advertising is manipulation by necessity. The idea is to convince you that you either need or want something. Sadly, most journalism in main stream media is not 100% honest or unbiased. Those with open ears and eyes know this.

  • brilliant vid

  • This video is so good that I spat out butterflies.

  • Excellent video.
