  • Fabulous ! Nuff said. If the hair on the back of your neck doesnt stand to attention at this , then I suggest you're dead , or you have sold your soul !

  • Oh I wish I was Anglican. :)

  • I was a choirboy in the cantoris side of the coronation choir in 1953. I always liked singing this anthem. The other anthem that is well known is Zadok the priest.

  • I wanna do this song in my choir!!!

  • @sunbrightt it's in 4/4

  • could anyone tell me what meter this is in?

  • Such an epic anthem, VERY nearly brought me to tears!

  • And you can put Elgar aside, Parry was far more patriotic, and you can feel it in his music!

  • St Paul's never do anything by halves, in any respect, and that God they dont !!

  • Definitely needs the trumpets throughout!

  • Prince Charles is a big fan of Parry.

  • Those who do not have the capacity to appreciate wonderful religous music, should refrain from commenting negatively.Advice ! stick to senseless modern music of the world if that is what makes you happy.

  • sweet song

  • I loved singing this at school :)

  • @edh1983edh : Oh ? Is that Doctor Who speaking ?

  • A nice video for revision (complete with music) so I can follow along. Thanks!

  • What an amazing song! I want this at my wedding!

  • nice but there's S1 that should shut up

  • They have been a couple for 8 years and lived together since 2009.

  • They were a beautiful couple, too bad they had to live together 8 yrs b4 marriage.

  • This is the song I want to walk down the aisle too and I have been looking everywhere for such an amazing song of love and faith and hope this song suits Princess Catherine and Prince William and to everyone that is in love and ready to get married.....

  • @edh1983edh perhaps the next time HRH comes up the aisle at Westminster to this it will be to be crowned Queen!!

  • @therealmsofgold

    You are a twat.

  • @edh1983ed Yes just read this as well, Parry is certainly getting quite an outing tomorrow!

  • @morphthing1 : But, surely, Parry's body would have well decayed by now ! And, the smell !

  • Thank you for posting this !!! It is spell binding and timeless !!!!

  • I love this piece. We sing it at our choir. It is a great piece of music. The organ part is great. All the singing parts. Parry must of had a great mind to compose this. I love the alto part and the tenor. My best bit is the 2 choirs and the part that stands at 1.30 mintues. And the top b flat at the end

The only part that i dont get is what happens to the second tenor do they join in with the first>?

  • This is one of my favorite anthems. It has two characteristics that set it apart from most: 1) structure (the returning of the opening motif, ritornello-like, keeps the piece together) and 2) a less image-specific approach to musical language (compare to, say, the tone painting in Stanford's almost madrigalistic "Justorum Animae"). It still has its due share of Victorian obviousness, though, such as the two choirs coming together at "in itself." Such pomp and glory, and brilliantly done.

  • Yeah, this anthem is majestic enough without the vivats. And what about those glorious soprano passages "And plenteousness within thy palaces" the execution of those top Bbs make it sound so effortless. Glorious and inspiring performance, thanks for the posting.

  • I don't care what they say about "modern music," this kind of music is timeless! This was always one of my favourite anthems as a chorister - and still is! beautifully sung and wonderfully played!

  • I AM Glad !

  • Blam! They don't make 'em like that anymore.

  • Blest Pair of Sirens, Jerusalem, My Soul there is a Country, and my favourite: this- Parry, you were a genius. You deserve for more credit.

  • Thanks for adding the score so people can sing along! I really love this piece and joining in makes it even more wonderful. Apart from the beautiful music the words are tremendous. We should indeed pray for the peace of Jerusalem.

  • Thanks for adding the score so people can sing along! I really love this piece and joining in makes it even more wonderful.

  • Thanks for posting, I enjoyed humming along.

  • Simply brilliant. How can anyone not be taken away by this simply stunning performance? The transitional passages from the organ are brilliant, and so well played too!!

  • Thank you so much for putting all this beautiful music online. Very much appreciated by this old Chorister!!

  • Really appreciate your taking time to put these postings together. My son, my daughter and I are all Anglican choisters here in Greenwich CT. Your postingsreally help us learn and appreciate this gorgeous music. Thx! Pax vobis cum!

  • @gagecw thank you for the kind comments, the Anglican choral tradition is rich and beautiful; long may it continue!

  • @gagecw Great you are part of the Anglican choral tradition! I'm English so closer to it. Taking it this slowly (which you HAVE to in St Paul's, as a previous comment says) really gives the essence of Parry - sloppy, Victorian/Edwardian sentimental. Ever come across "Blest Pair of Sirens" by Parry? That is even more so... full of rubato and not easy but a real experience. Something to think about as a choir anthem for a special occasion - it'll thrill the congregation!

  • @gagecw I'm in the trinity Boys Choir of New Haven, CT! Cool

  • upper tenor :)

  • That top bflat in bar 200 woooow :D x

  • so beautiful :)

  • beautiful I love it. Our anthem for easter! x

  • Lovely, thank you, though I think it's somewhat on the slow side. No "vivat, vivat Regina!" either.

  • i prefer it without the vivat regina

  • @sirinferno which, I believe is only meant to be sung by the Queen's Scholars of Westminster School, is that right?

  • @sirinferno Everyone prefers it without the vivats!

  • @gurney134 Yes we did every thing at St Paul's slower because of the gigantic acoustic. Also there is a rule that you're not really supposed to do the Vivat when it is the Queen's/King's coronation (although lots of people do it anyway)

  • this brought tears to my eyes.

  • Thanks for this - it was most helpful - am singing it in Arundel Cathedral ( along with Belshazzars Feast/Chichester Psalms) on Sunday July 25th with an orchestra of 80+ and 8 off stage trumpets! Sir Willard White singing Belshazzars and am really looking forward to it.

  • been a while since i sang this and this is a good version thanks very much!

  • This music is Divine.

  • I sang this with a choir at Malmesbury Abbey for HM The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh for her Jubilee 6 or 7 years ago. Great memories, many thanks.

  • GORGEOUS!!!! Thanks for posting! (Only question: could all of the organ part be shown?)

  • It possibly could of been but can't change the video now.

  • actually i love this song very much

and St Paul Cathedral's version is the best so far

  • Wonderful classic.
