Jeremy Irons (Humbert Humbert) almost did not play a role in this movie at all due to the storyline and the reputation of his career. I haven't seen all of the movie, but I hope to soon. :)

A movie does not get filmed, edited, put together, and debut all in a year.
They also had to go through all the censorship/rating and what could not be allowed to be seen by the public and all that other stuff.
so in an old interview, they said Dominique was 14 or so.
Yeah, that's about the right age during the filming of this.

Believe me, as a guy the same age of Humbert was in this movie i would find it very sweet and very arousing getting an 'awkward' kiss from a girl that age! Plenty of time to teach her about tongues and proper mouth technique later - and the teaching would be part of the pleasure too!
