The idea of democracy is not to centralize power but to spread it equal among all people. A world government is a bad idea but a world referendum institute is a good idea.
This may sound weird... But I don't belive there is any TRUE democracy in the world. There are Democratic Republics, like in the U.S. There are Parlementary systems, and other forms of representative democracy, but I can't really think of any country that has a "1 person - 1 vote" policy on every law passed in the country. Sure it'd be a logistical problem, but with technology advancing very fast, and with innovations like the internet if could be possible. It might be intresting.

America is not a democracy we're a Constitutional Republic. We use democracy to elect our leaders, then our leaders use democracy to make legislation and policy but that legislation and policy CANNOT violate the Constitution. In pure democracy 51% of the population can vote to rape and murder you.

I assume direct democracy is being promoted here. I do wish something like that could happen and PEACEFULLY too, but the plain old notion is that people argue when it comes to the technicalities of things. And living in a westernised modern society I've also been exposed to many western ideas/influences. From what I've learnt as a kid about Chinese history etc, we are not as backward as others think. We've been actually rather developed in medical and science fields throughour History. And I would like to take the chance here to say this:

I know that many of my friends who are very "westernised" think those traditions as ridiculous. Indeed, some may seem old and outdated, but from my experiences with society, I have found surprising truth in many of them. Our thinking may seem old to you, but these traditions have come from the many experiences of our ancestors and contain wise teachings that are still relevant to today.
@dermtoro An example, Chinese traditional medicine may seem ridiculous to you, but I have seen it cure many diseases, and an advantage it has over western medicine is that chinese medicine come from nature and contain almost no chemical. Of course, for serious diseases, western medicine would be more effective than chinese medicine. I'm not ruling out the many benefits of west medication. Last thing, computer, doctors, TV and whatnots, "countries like China" are catching up, and fast too.

Stuff like this is mocked in American precisely because the greedy drug companies want to get their profits. This may sound weird... But I don't belive there is any TRUE democracy in the world. There are Democratic Republics, like in the U.S. There are Parlementary systems, and other forms of representative democracy, but I can't really think of any country that has a "1 person - 1 vote" policy on every law passed in the country. Sure it'd be a logistical problem, but with technology advancing very fast, and with innovations like the internet if could be possible. It might be intresting.

I assume direct democracy is being promoted here. I do wish something like that could happen and PEACEFULLY too, but the plain old notion is that people argue when it comes to the technicalities of things. Yes, the vast, vast majority of people around the world would never vote for anything to further the more negative impacts of our society but when it comes down to the technicality of things, how to really solve a problem, the ability to compromise and maybe agree is very difficult to come by.

All the bailout put out by Congress in obama's presidency is equal 8 billion. (the majority of which is being repaid.) The iraq war and Bush tax cuts is 5 trillion.

I don't think this would work...India/China would be 61%. That seems a little slanted if I may say so myself. Not that my US ways are all the correct one.these two countries can barely run themselves I feel that it would lead to a completely biased system. I grew up in a country will one set of general morals and I feel that would be removed. They speak of womens rights and escape from persecution, 35% would contradict that

Anything you do including the use of your computer is a product of western technology, what you and others never say is that the west was willing to share the technology while countries like China would not be.
It is not about being superior but about having the mind set and philosophy that

Saying that the USA was the first to actually create the computer and that it was after we created it that we then decided to share it with the world. I believe he agrees with you that Japan has picked up the technology and ran with it. He said that it would not be the same in reverse. If China creates something new they will not share it with us. @dermtoro Ok, I do agree that the west is technologically more superior than others. However, please do not say this in such absolute terms. After all, just a few centuries ago, scientific development was seen as 'witchcraft' in the west (unlike the advanced middle eastern countries then). I disagree with your point about other countrie not sharing technology. No country will be willing to share technology, trust me, esp things like nuclear tech etc.

What makes you think people in China and India do not have them? Sure, we may be slower in development, but haven't all countries gone through that stage? That said, no country would "share" tech without getting any gains from it.

@dermtoro And "western civilisation is responsible for planetary development" is too extreme. Yes, much of technology had origins in the west, from the industrial revloution and all. But, tech advancement does not equate planetary development. If tech is the only thing that progresses the world, then we'd all be walking zombies only driven by pure material desires. That said, I would just like to point out that in fact the current trend see the west actually falling behind in tech development.

@dermtoro Growing up in a traditional chinese family, I've been exposed to many chinese traditions and sayings and whatsoever. And living in a westernised modern society I've also been exposed to many western ideas/influences. From what I've learnt as a kid about Chinese history etc, we are not as backward as others think. We've been actually rather developed in medical and science fields throughour History. And I would like to take the chance here to say this:

@dermtoro The chinese have many many sayings and teachings and traditions passed down through generations. I know that many of my friends who are very "westernised" think those traditions as ridiculous. Indeed, some may seem old and outdated, but from my experiences with society, I have found surprising truth in many of them. Our thinking may seem old to you, but these traditions have come from the many experiences of our ancestors and contain wise teachings that are still relevant to today.

@dermtoro An example, Chinese traditional medicine may seem ridiculous to you, but I have seen it cure many diseases, and an advantage it has over western medicine is that chinese medicine come from nature and contain almost no chemical. Of course, for serious diseases, western medicine would be more effective than chinese medicine. I'm not ruling out the many benefits of west medication. Last thing, computer, doctors, TV and whatnots, "countries like China" are catching up, and fast too.

Stuff like this is mocked in American precisely because the greedy drug companies want to get their profits. Well they won't get much cash at all if instead of buying painkillers people could smoke marijuanna or cure most of their ailments with a natural remedy of some sort be it Chinese or whatever.

And youngsters there are getting more and more open too. Anw I think I should stop rambling. Sorry, but being born in a chinese traditional family and living in a highly Westernised society, I have very strong feelings and opnions about the East West "conflict".

@dermtoro I do share the American dream with countless others (in fact I'm planning on going to college in US), however I appreciate my heritage and I would definitely defend it when need be. I am proud of my heritage and roots, and I would not stand by and watch people belittle my race. That said, I hold high respect for your race too, and I try to be as objective as I can. But, I am human and definitely I would be biased. I hope you understand I am not attacking west culture in any way.
