  • Nick here again...I have a Cl 60 and I cannot get it to haul anything except Hornby TTAs around 2nd radius curves; it always derails the Bachy TEAs - have you done anything to the couplings to stop the swinging arm getting 'stuck' thus forcing the leading bogie of the TEA off the track? regards zzpjl8

  • @zzpjl8 My Hornby 60 has had much alteration to the coupling. The Hornby coupling design on their diesels is terrible and really lets the models down.

I have removed the coupling and used a file to smooth out the V shaped channel. I also removed the retaining spring and greased it up. Now the wagon directs the loco coupling rather than the loco pulling the wagon off the track.

  • what is the manafacturer of your intercity class 37 and what class is the br loco at time frame 1:07 as i need some sparef for mine but dont know what class it is ?

  • @MrJDMmills The 37 is made by Bachmann. The loco at 1:07 is a class 58, made by Heljan.

  • Hry, Nick hrtr(zzpjl8) - loving your videos sitting in the lounge in Singapore airport. Mate, the layout is looking fantastic - and we have so many of the same locos and rolling stock I cannot believe it! Check out the new Bachmann TPO coach - would look great added to your mail train. Your weathering is superb - you are much braver than I am!!! Keep it up.

  • Great Work and Can't Wait to See it Done.

  • Nice layout! Are two helix?

  • Looking good :-)

  • What is the wagon with the nuclear flask wagon?

  • @bachmannman96 It's a barrier wagon. They were used in the 80s and 90s on flask trains. I'm making it myself out of an old hornby wagon.

  • @DELTICclass55 I think the layout is about 30 feet long. I designed it as I went along.

  • You have changed the channel design to the new one!

    Change it back!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Just wondering... Now that the piece of layout it was filmed on is now non-existent, do you plan to make a new title sequence for your videos?

  • @WhistlingTractor I will get round to a new intro at some point.

  • Coming Allong well. Great videos! Got some new coaches in the fiddle yard?

PS:If you want any signs, let me know!

  • Like the footage especially the HST set, the 150 and 60062 on the tankers!

  • hi there was is hard to build the helix and in a way can u tel me hows its made id like that on my layout looks realy gd cheers paul

  • looking ace mate love the banked corners and the pointwork.

  • Just wondered what camera you are using now you have updated it?

I thought the old one was very good, but this one focuses so quick on zoom, gets pretty close for the close ups and although in the loft, always seems to be lit well, is that just the loft illumination?

  • @redbaron1020 I use a Panasonic HDC-SD60, its very good. Have been using it for about a year now.

  • Hey great layout mate was it hard 2 do u and how long u been doing it 4 cheers Paul

  • @paulknowles100 It is hard, i've been doing this layout for about 2 years.

  • Cracking video. This is just about the best footage anyone could do on Youtube. How about another 8 tankers for that class 60 !! I have tested this loco and it will pull anything you ask it to. Not sure about attacking the gradients on your fantastic helixes though!

  • @JPMiller14 Some more tankers would be cool, would take up a second lane in the fiddle yard though.

  • Looking good mate. The long sweeping curve certainly makes a big difference. I have a beam like you had going up through my layout and I've decided to extand my layout also. Just wanted to say thanks for the pointer toward Hattons as I hadn't used them before, but they do seem to work out a lot cheaper, so thanks for that.

  • @jackabeejackson Thanks mate. I tend to buy most of my stuff from hattons.

  • @EverardJunction On a separate note I was just wondering how the locos cope with the uphill gradient on the helixes? I appreciate you have quality trains i.e. Bachmann, but since I've been following your videos the trains are getting longer and so is the track. Have you noticed any degredation in performance or motor strain over time pulling a long train up the helix?

    Cheers, Chris

  • @jackabeejackson Almost all of my engines have all wheel drive a weigh quite a lot. The all wheel drive helps the most. Today all the trains run as well as they did when they were new.

  • That was great, looking forward to seeing the layout with the added scenery, enjoyed watching the helix in action..

  • runs nice and smooth, like the view watching the trains tilt

  • From 1:36 you will notice the superelevation as HST negotiated the curve. Well done!

  • why dont steam engines go up the helix is it becuase it is too steep or do they struggle

  • Another class video! Thanks - did I see a steam loco lurking on the bench!

  • @dahliadelux There are a few from the old layout, they don't go up the helixes though, so don't get run.

  • well done kid,( nice one) always look forward to your vids.

  • Looking good as ever

  • Hi Richard

Thanks for the previous helix build video, it's going to come in handy and it's really good to see the locos running on it. Do any of your locos have trouble with the second radius curves on the inner loop or do they all manage with a rake of coaches/wagons?

Really inspiring mate keep it up.

  • @o0poindexter0o All the locos are fine on 2nd radius curves. Almost all model trains are designed to operate well on 2nd radius curves.

  • What underlay do you use and where do you get it from?

    Thanks.

  • @TheHST98 I use javis cork underlay, I bought it from hattons.

  • @EverardJunction

Thanks, Your trains run so well.

  • yet another great Vid. The long rake's look really good. hope fully will get my fiddle area completed this week end and will start testing that.

  • Totally brilliant!..you've inspired me to have a crack at a helix system..if I can find the courage!..loved the banking trains too!

  • theres nothing better than just watching a long passenger train, being hauled by a class 37 on a PROPER LAYOUT, well done richard, its a credit to you,,

  • @488scooby Thanks mate, it really comes alive with long trains.

  • @JRCModelling I use sony vegas

  • nice to see full running again : )

really like the footage from 1:38 to 2:50 - really shows off the camber on the approach to the station

  • How big is it now with the new extension. I really like the new curves they look so muck better.

  • @OOTrainsandModels Its about 6ft longer than the old part of the layout

  • Looking good, especially that banked curve. Would love to see a full length Pendo zooming through it :)

  • Top man , great to see all is working ok , the helix is superb and running full length trains must be everybody,s ambition well done . Phil

  • yeah im going to give my one a light coating this weekend.i will be posting a video of the work i have done to glebe road in the next few days.

  • good job richard.its all coming together nicely now.

and the trains run well over the banked curves!

im looking forwards to seeing how it looks once the scenery is complete.

and i see you got yourself a nuclear flask wagon, i also got one this week!

  • @bloodmarine77 Thanks, I was very impressed by the flash wagon, just need some weathering!

  • fantastic that is great it all looks good mate! I though the brach was for freigh only

  • @Yorkiepudd1966 Thanks mate, the gradient has made a nice change to the overall look.

  • that's coming along really nicely, great work! Love the look of the HST going round that sweeping curve, and the 'underground' shot of the sidings, fantastic!

  • nice video like your up datas

  • like the new junction i

t will look great when it all done

cant wait to see it done

  • A great layout, I am enjoying all of the new updates to Everard Junction. Thanks for posting these videos and also for providing the how to's. Much appreciated.

  • love the video mate u the well on the layout thumbs up for me

  • whaTS going to put the blood&custard coaches

  • @5029tom My dad has a BR green class 55, it hauls them as a railtour.

  • Helix looks amazing with 3 trains running u and down at once, great video.

  • I can see the tilting very clearly, very good

  • Always look forward to your videos, great layout and video work.

  • Looks very good.. :)

  • You'r canted curve has come out really well!! The HST going off it looks so real!! Fantastic!!!

  • @37116comet thanks, the camera picked up the effect quite well.

  • Looking good mate, just managed to get a second loop done on mine. Vid to follow shortly ;-)

  • hey up mate looking awesome love the branch off and the corners go on forever looks very smooth and more as you wanted more of a natural sweep...very impressive.

also have you any plans for puting sound to any of your fleet as im thinking of doing a few at the mo cheers carl.

  • @uzyadadi Thanks mate, so far the layout is running very well.

I have thought about sound a lot, but i'm not completely sold on it. A lot of people's personal experiences are that it is good for about 30 mins, but then it gets annoying and they turn it off. Also quite a few of the factory fitted sound locos from bachamnn and hornby don't quite recreate the deep rumble of the real thing.

However sound locos from specialist model shops are much better, but are very expensive.

  • @EverardJunction Yeah ive had the class 20 sound before but sold it was a br blue sounded okish lol but these new sounds from loksound v4 are very good so i may just do the hst, rails of sheffield stock a few for around 100 quid.

  • Great video :-)

  • cool

one thing, aren't you suppose to have the track fully connected to the other track?

  • @cubeproduktion Due to changes in temperature in the loft the track has to have gaps in it. This allows the track to expand when the weather is warm and stops it bending out of shape. This is also what is done on real railways to keep the track straight in summer.

  • @EverardJunction I thought only wood expands, I never new metal can expand

  • its looking good now :D
