Maya hates autodidates =.= Everything I try to load does not come with the textures and I have no Idea how to load the textures into the models, it's so unfriendly, unlike MMD >.>
Whenever I try to import a .FBX file, it seems to import a skeleton for each animation which messes the whole thing up as it's impossible to work with it. I'm very new to the program though. But how can I load it in as just one skeleton and easily use the different animations?
@Ragkid Yes, but you will need to learn how to build a rig. This set of control objects is only present for animators and the model is stripped of them once the animation is imported from Blizz's animator's programs into WoW.
i have wow downloaded and the viewer but nothing came up :/ i want to import a night elf to my island in kaneva(another mmo) as a .DAE ...I'm very new to this stuff, any help??? it will save me a lot of time in money.
Nice work on getting the models over to Maya, but this video tells the rest of us nothing. If you were just showing what you can do, excellent work. If you were going for a "how to" vid, just clicking all over files you previously created doesnt cut it.
Hey, i have a problem with this method, maybe you can help me.
When i import/open the .OBJ File in Maya i don't get the model imported, but all of its polygons as one line. If I try to scale/rotate/focus it nothing happens.
The polycount tells me that ~2000 polygons have been importet and the UV Editor is all fine.
[Did it with WoW 3.3.5a,Modelviewer r206 and Maya 2011]
if a file crash during the import you cannot import .FBX for that character. You can only open the file in .OBJ mode (without skeleton and animations).
In general I found that models called ''creatures'' in WowModelViewer list can be imported on Maya in booth .OBJ & .FBX mode, ''characters'' can only be imported as .OBJ file.

As concernd 3ds yes, use Milkshape 3D, it's a quite useful import/export program

For me that’s fascinating. It’s impressive how a good texture can smooth a low polygonal model, it makes the difference

can you make your own custom animations and what-not with the models by using this? like model posing?

How did you import the models, I've saved them as .fbx and then tried to import them and the program encounters an error and shuts down.
