@FrobblOo When Football was first invented, forward passes were illegal, drop kicks were of the norm (they also used drop kicks to score most frequently), and the game was basically all "foot-related." The only passes that were acceptable were side passes or backwards passes, which follows the same principle as Rugby.
Only after people realized how slow the game played this way was the forward pass legalized.
So there is a perfectly legitimate reason why it's called football. :)

Soccer was originally an English term used as a contraction of the term "The Football Association" created on 26/10/1863 wen all the English teams banded together to make the "Laws of Football." The reason that Yanks use the term soccer and English people do not is that when soccer was popularised in the US, they already had American Football.

In this years world cup Germany's national team had 3 people born in poland (two of which being Miroslav Klose and Lukasz Podolski who were their top scorers) a Turkish born player (Mesut Oezil) and a Brazilian (Cacau) but simply because they were either technically German citizens or even Married to a German, they were allowed to play for the national team.

Do a little research and you'll realize that it was orginally called soccer by the English (who invented it) as a short form of association. Since then everyone in North America has called it by it's true name, whereas Europe started calling it football. In fact, organized football is older than organized soccer - so fuck off, it's SOCCER!

@FrobblOo When Football was first invented, forward passes were illegal, drop kicks were of the norm (they also used drop kicks to score most frequently), and the game was basically all "foot-related." The only passes that were acceptable were side passes or backwards passes, which follows the same principle as Rugby.
Only after people realized how slow the game played this way was the forward pass legalized.
So there is a perfectly legitimate reason why it's called football. :)

@FrobblOo As Alex77Fox pointed out to you, it originally was more footbased. I also just did some research to put an end to this dispute once and for all. Soccer was originally an English term used as a contraction of the term "The Football Association" created on 26/10/1863 wen all the English teams banded together to make the "Laws of Football." The reason that Yanks use the term soccer and English people do not is that when soccer was popularised in the US, they already had American Football.
