I legally manufacture firearms for personal use, I can tell you with almost no experience with air soft (only seeing a few friends high-end examples) that there is no possible way that one of those can "readily be converted to a machine gun" "firing live ammunition" I have built many calibers, I have built actions and receivers from nothing but a (billet) of aluminum, the strength it takes to fire even .22lr is not something that is going to be pressed out of taiwan with pot metal!
I once shot my self in the foot with a bit of chewed up ciggarette rolling paper rolled into a ball with trainers on an it stung like hell and this was just an experiment for my own judgment about the potential of any projectile regardless how harmless it may seem.

The steel used is graded 110 steel , ie soft metal. A .22 short round pressure would rip the metal apart. Yeah I trust the ATF , the same guys selling guns to Mexican drug cartels under Fast and Furious.

I would like to see one converted "Easily" into a military grade rifle, you cant say that it can be easily converted without proving it. So when ATF actualy proves it and shows us the total cost to convert it vs. the cost to buy a real one, this is an embarsement to themselves.
The price to convert the WE M4 ($400-$600) would be upwards of $2000-$3000 (Mill work, Military Grade parts). So your looking at anywhere from $2,400-$3,600 for a converted rifle.But in reality, you could take the easy route and buy a illegal M4 off the streets for $1000. And the ATF finds no fault in that? The ATF needs to realize that the people who buy these airsoft replicas everyday do it as a hobby, not a murder scheme, they also need to realize the age group that buys these replicas.

You can convert an airsoft gun into an actual firearm! Just replace the whole internal and external structure of the weapon. Doubt this really counts as a conversion though =).

If you can attach one of the toy AR-15/M4 lowers to a real AR-15/M4 upper and discharge a round of ammunition, then you have a firearm. I am guessing this is what the ATF is claiming and in that regard, they might be right. The thing is that I could tool something together to make an upper half discharge a round without needing a proper M4 lower.
Everyone should know(if they do not) that lower is considered a firearm and the upper on a M4 is not. This might be the issue.
@mhouse1712, i don't think that would work, the airsoft lower doesn't contain any of the parts you may think. Trigger component, seer, literally both the entire upper and lower would need to be replaced and by then it's really not an airsoft gun anymore and I highly doubt the PLASTIC body would support that kind of weight.

First off, it was PROVEN that they CAN be converted. For those who don't understand this, it all has to do with the receiver, the lower "body" of the gun. This is the part of a gun that has the serial number, and it's the one part that's considered a firearm no matter what's attached to it. This part is IDENTICAL in specs to it's real counterpart. It even has the proper configuration to install the full auto parts. If you were to acquire the proper parts, which are legal to own and sell
in the US without license or regulation of any kind, you could install the parts on this "toy" receiver, and have a fully functioning machine gun. The problem here, is that the airsoft gun contains the one part that IS heavily restricted and illegal for normal people to own. If you had all the full auto parts, they won't fit in a civilian AR-15 receiver, and they are made that way on purpose. This receiver, on the other hand, WILL accept the full auto stuff, and is therefore illegal.
So pretty much, if you have a real AR-15, and you bought the necessary full auto parts online or at a gun show(perfectly legal to own, since you have to have the special receiver to do anything with them, and that receiver, which comes with this airsoft gun, is illegal), you can take all the parts from it, install it on this receiver, which is made of the same material, and to the same specs as the real one, and have a real working machine gun in under 5 minutes.

1. The stock trigger pack in the WE TTI cannot strike the firing pin of a AR15 bolt
2. And one of the AR15 trigger pack retaining pins is impossible to insert without major modification, and the hammer isn’t operable with the WE TTI lower.
Those modifications would not even be possible without advanced knowlege in gunsmithing and advanced tools for the job.
And if you had said advanced knowlege, AIRSOFT GUNS WOULD BE THE LAST THING YOU WOULD WORK WITH YOU FUCKING TWIT! It would be much simpler to convert the AR15 to fully automatic instead, and you wouldn't have the gun rip apart in your face.
And actually, it would absolutely be more difficult to covert a standard AR-15 lower receiver, considering that the airsoft gun in question, even if it isn't the particular one in this video, comes with a cast aluminum mil-spec M16 receiver with the exact dimensions required to install the FULL AUTO M16 fire control parts, and a real upper receiver(which is what contains the pressure, not the lower). Don't call me a fucking twit, airsoft kiddie.

I must be thinking of a different model, but I've seen a detailed description, including pictures, given by a Type 7 FFL Class II manufacturer of how and why the lower receiver of a certain M16 style airsoft gun IS a functional M16 full auto-capable lower receiver straight out of the box with no modifications whatsoever. It's been a while, and I don't remember exactly where i saw this, but it was on an online gun forum, possibly arfcom.

theoretically if the lower receiver could accommodate a real upper receiver, magazine, fire control group, but stock and all small parts, and the holes where with in 1/1000 an inch of the real thing, you might be able to build a real gun with $600 worth of parts.

The price to convert the WE M4 ($400-$600) would be upwards of $2000-$3000 (Mill work, Military Grade parts). So your looking at anywhere from $2,400-$3,600 for a converted rifle.But in reality, you could take the easy route and buy a illegal M4 off the streets for $1000. And the ATF finds no fault in that? The ATF needs to realize that the people who buy these airsoft replicas everyday do it as a hobby, not a murder scheme, they also need to realize the age group that buys these replicas.

If you can attach one of the toy AR-15/M4 lowers to a real AR-15/M4 upper and discharge a round of ammunition, then you have a firearm. I am guessing this is what the ATF is claiming and in that regard, they might be right. The thing is that I could tool something together to make an upper half discharge a round without needing a proper M4 lower.
Everyone should know(if they do not) that lower is considered a firearm and the upper on a M4 is not. This might be the issue.

Trigger component, seer, literally both the entire upper and lower would need to be replaced and by then it's really not an airsoft gun anymore and I highly doubt the PLASTIC body would support that kind of weight.

First off, it was PROVEN that they CAN be converted. For those who don't understand this, it all has to do with the receiver, the lower "body" of the gun. This is the part of a gun that has the serial number, and it's the one part that's considered a firearm no matter what's attached to it. This part is IDENTICAL in specs to it's real counterpart. in the US without license or regulation of any kind, you could install the parts on this "toy" receiver, and have a fully functioning machine gun. The problem here, is that the airsoft gun contains the one part that IS heavily restricted and illegal for normal people to own. If you had all the full auto parts, they won't fit in a civilian AR-15 receiver, and they are made that way on purpose. This receiver, on the other hand, WILL accept the full auto stuff, and is therefore illegal.

So pretty much, if you have a real AR-15, and you bought the necessary full auto parts online or at a gun show(perfectly legal to own, since you have to have the special receiver to do anything with them, and that receiver, which comes with this airsoft gun, is illegal), you can take all the parts from it, install it on this receiver, which is made of the same material, and to the same specs as the real one, and have a real working machine gun in under 5 minutes.

1. The stock trigger pack in the WE TTI cannot strike the firing pin of a AR15 bolt
2. And one of the AR15 trigger pack retaining pins is impossible to insert without major modification, and the hammer isn’t operable with the WE TTI lower.

And actually, it would absolutely be more difficult to covert a standard AR-15 lower receiver, considering that the airsoft gun in question, even if it isn't the particular one in this video, comes with a cast aluminum mil-spec M16 receiver with the exact dimensions required to install the FULL AUTO M16 fire control parts, and a real upper receiver(which is what contains the pressure, not the lower). I must be thinking of a different model, but I've seen a detailed description, including pictures, given by a Type 7 FFL Class II manufacturer of how and why the lower receiver of a certain M16 style airsoft gun IS a functional M16 full auto-capable lower receiver straight out of the box with no modifications whatsoever. It's been a while, and I don't remember exactly where i saw this, but it was on an online gun forum, possibly arfcom.

Next thing you know they will ban loud mucle cars, they will ban kitchen knives that have sharp points, and ban the right to protect yourself if someone is trying to kill you in your own home. theoretically if the lower receiver could accommodate a real upper receiver, magazine, fire control group, but stock and all small parts, and the holes where with in 1/1000 an inch of the real thing, you might be able to build a real gun with $600 worth of parts.
assuming that the receiver didn't fall apart because its made out of cheap castings and not forged aircraft aluminum .

Look guys - you all wrong. ATF agent is quite knowledgeable guy. He didn't try to insert AK magazine in, and it is really silly not to paint "Insert magazine here, you dumb**s!" on all weapons for ATF agents.
If talking about result of "tests"... well... I afraid thous who was shooting "successfully converted" guns, are out of reach in this world any more... Amen...

@ps365gamer Why? Real guns are completely legal. I can walk in any sporting goods store and buy an AR-15 right now. What could possibly be dangerous about an airsoft? I shoot rifles all day long in my yard and they dont have painted tip. Too many friggn crazy scared sheep out there.

Yes, it can be converted... if you have thousands and thousands of dollars, and if you want to shoot only 7 rounds, before... as they said... it blows up in your face.
