My Great Uncle who just passed away was a USCG Officer during WWII (Retired a LCDR), & he commanded 11 LCMs, along with fire support. He personally escorted General Patton ashore in Casablanca, & brought General MacArthur ashore twice in the Philippines. He conducted 10 major amphib. assaults during the War, & he was awarded the Bronze Star, the Coast Guard Medal, 10 Battle Stars, & other theater medals & commendations. He also lost his best friend right in front of him while assaulting Luzon.
@MrRuski96 Dunno, took my DODMERB, but the urinalysis was screwed up somehow, so now I have to retake it. and the DoDMERB system is down, so I have to wait 2 to 3 days until it's back up online. So, at this point it's FUBAR, I have until may april 15th. But I'm just as dedicated and hopeful. If I get that letter in the mail, it'll be the happiest moment of my life so far haha.
@tevyethemad i want to go to the academy become an officer and I am definitely going to leanr how to sail maybe how to fly a helicopter, and since I am Russian i would probably be in AK on a cutter looking for Russian vessels.
I am a twidget in the Coast Guard and have been serving for 5 years now. I greatly appreciate the video you have made. Though there is alot of service rivalry it is always good to remember the times that we have worked together.
As a Marine I think of Douglas Munro and his sacrifice. I know he his always credited when I hear stories of Guadalcanal... On ship we had a small det of Coasties who advised the Navy on Maritime laws in the early 90's.
gbh05210; Douglas Munro was the only Coast Guardsman in WWII to win the Congressional Medal of Honor for his saving a group of Marines by piloting his landing craft under heavy Japanese gunfire. He was awarded the medal posthumsely
@20031200 Yes, Signalman first class Munro as I recall was part of an end run around the Japenese flank, but the Japanese were waiting for the Marines. When things got real bad he lead his squadron back to pick up the Marines. As the squadron of was picking up the Marines on the beachhead.Munro placed his Higgins boat as a shield, his higgins was the older type, Marines had to jump over the sides. He was sheilding the beachhead from Japanese machine guns and firing back with his lewis gun when killed
I cant say for sure but it was attributed to the USMC Band with the arrangement by Sousa. Again I am not a music expert but ...either way its a great rendition.
Although I spent 20 years in the Army, I've always had a soft spot in my heart for the Coast Guard, having grown up watching their helos flying around. God bless the men and women of the US Coast Guard, and keep kicking ass and taking names protecting us!
@manageryan09 God damn im sorry to hear that...Im still awaiting my waiver for my blood pressure since it was slightly elevated during the MEPS testing
I still have my grandfather's Gold Lifesaving Medal- He was a Coastie based in Maine as won the medal for saving the life of a lighthouse keeper's toddler daughter who fell into the sea- the water in that part of Maine is 42 degrees- He stripped to his underwear and dove in after she was swept into the ocean by a wave.
swflprof Thanks for your service buddy, however, i need to correct you on something, We don't know say Former Marine! lol Semper Fi my friend, once a marine always a marine!

I know it is very common in the USMC to play the other services "Hymn" out of respect for the other service. Not sure this was the case here.
