Basically it means a change of mind that results in a change of behavior. For example suppose that you covet things/people a lot. You first make the decision in your mind to stop doing that and then you apply it and actually stop coveting. Repentance is not being sorry that you got caught. Also true repentance means that you really stop/end a certain sin, not that you say sorry, but then do it again, say sorry again, do it again and so on .. that isn't repentance either.

I would suggest after accepting the gift of salvation that one is honest and treats human beings as Jesus does.
A person can not be a Christian and be filled with hate at the same time.
It is impossible.
