  • I wish i lived during this whole generation. its so cool. 14 now and the newer music just doesnt compare to this.

  • UN-FUCKING-BELIEVABLE. What a band.

  • The lyrics make a surprising amount of sense.

  • Coolest guy in the universe. Bloody good music as well :-)

  • @progchick1 damn bloody straight there my friend...

  • great....really,stop making (no) sense...;)

  • THIS IS GODLY!!!!!

  • David Byrne is one of the most intriguing men on the planet.

  • Life wasted in corporate machine from 1984. Same as it ever was, still is.

  • dance baby :)

  • haha 3:30 !!

  • This guy makes weird look cool.

  • weird is cool

  • cool

  • I am very lucky in that this was the very first big concert I saw! I didn't have enough taste or knowledge at that point to have known how good it would be.

I was 13 and my brother 10 or 11 - my mom dropped us off (thanks mom!). We were so young that the concert people took us to the very front of the line! Alas, we were too shy to go right up front, but it was still awesome.

  • You just can't beat a big suit.

  • incredible.

    byrne is great.

  • he is just too cool, lool. 3:30

  • holy fucking gawd. byrne's little dance around 3:30 is too fucking hilarious.

I need to watch that again while shrooming.

    LIKE NAO 0_O

  • im gonna do the big suit for halloween next year.

  • This guy is genius...Excellente

  • Yes Talking Heads has a lot of very good songs but this one has so much energy to it, it was on the radio today. If you want to have some fun get the cd the live version that is and listen to this while u drive u will have a great time.

  • I love David Byrne and completely respect him. I think he has done some amazing things since leaving the Talking Heads, and completely understand why he doesn't want to reunite.

That being said... Come On David. We need new Talking Heads. Just one new song and a tour.... please......

great video, I loved this movie.

  • gotta get that big suit.

unfortanately i don't think it will make much of a difference when i actually wear it because of my structure.

  • rofl 4:07. they are great.

  • hello, what is the good album to start with? btw IM AMAZED So FUCKING OWESOME ENERGY!!!

  • i started with 77, and just went in chronological order...i downloaded every studio album and listened to ALL OF THEM in one day, ALL THE WAY THROUGH...ive literally never done that with any other band. ever. not even close

  • With you 100%. I instantly became insanely obsessed with this band and it's genius. Since discovering them I have yet to find a better band.

  • I get you - I try to relisten to their entire catalogue about once a month. Excellent therapy, and cheaper and more funky than a psychiatrist.

  • saw the 'remain in light' tour at red rocks, when they debuted 'swamp' from the upcoming 'speaking in tongues'. the song didn't even have a name when they played it! what an amazing show! total dance fest that left us all drained.....that was the band's best time from 'fear of music' - 'remain in light' - 'speaking in tongues'

  • Also the rest of the band was thinking about replacing David with Adrian Belew, but he took the job with King Crimson before they did anything.

Worked out good for both bands.

  • no talking, just head

  • absolutely genius.

  • super!

  • King of wierd. Superb artist.

  • This concert is amazing

  • are there any of the talking heads here besides david byrne?

  • The band was really founded by Chris Frantz and Tina weymouth, who are both on stage... with Jerry Harrison who joined later. David joined up with those two at college but it's so obvious that the Heads wouldn't even register on the popular music radar without David... instead they are an extremely large splash. Haven't you seen this film? you need to see it and research it too :)

  • A brilliant concert film, for sure. One of the finest made.

  • Very much agree!!

  • I was at work when I made that comment! LOL!

    To elaborate:

    - Sound quality is excellent.

    - Film is very visual (TH's were graphic artists, it's fitting) in camera angles and movement. The viewer is invited to move about the stage and see all the visual arts.

    - How it all builds from single guitar to the entire spectacle keeps the viewer (TH fan or not!) interested in what will happen next.

Really, it's a concert but the viewer is involved in all effects. Quite original, really.

  • takes over slowly but doesnt last very long

  • omg..i've become a teenager again!!! nothing like going back nearly 30 years to make you feel hideously old, lol. Completely timeless music, cracking.

  • I remember watching this when it came out at the movies. Timeless classic of my teen years. Awesome....

  • Oh yea, and... Tina Weymouth... sexiest woman ever... don't tell my girlfriend though :O

  • I think I've actually complimented this video more than once on this exact video, on youtube...

    I don't give a shit.

    This video = pure win.

    wintastic, woot for talking heads.

  • the best

  • "LOL" eh ? Simple language for simple people. Enjoy your ego there buddy.

  • brillant.

  • it really is

  • And nothing is better than that!

    Is it?

  • woot woot!...how good is the audio for this track!! simply amazing, its damn near 25 years old..getcha self a pair of sennheiser earphones & enjoy....

  • David & Tina at their best. That bass groove is awesome. He's in OZ, I'll be seeing him for sure.

  • Love it. My favorite clip from the movie. Live version rocks. I saw this tour in Nashville at Municipal Auditorium and got the soundtrack. It's my favorite live album by far. Just try to not dance to this....and Naive Melody.

  • Good song. VERY good song.

    - Music loving Klingon

  • This is so lame? Please stick to your Jonas brothers!

  • I am not sure why you think it is lame? Stop Making Sense Directed by Jonathan Demme is still regarded as the most creative concert films ever made even though it never shows the audience or a single close up guitar solo.

25 years later people still remember the film for the big suit and much more. David Byrne still preforms today as well as he did back then.

Do you think 25 years from now anyone will even know who hottie Nick Jonas is? Really? Think about it. Jonas will be a lame old fart!

  • Stop Making Sense actually does show the audience, but only in a couple of shots during the last number (Crosseyed and Painless).

  • That is true. They are shown for a few seconds though. They also show them in the extra clips, I think big business and cities. The main point is not the audience though as most concert films seem to be about. It is not about the instruments either hence Byrne having most of them painted black.

  • I'm with cjmorello1!

  • so fkin good.

cant get enough of these guys at the moment, didnt realise how good they were when this was originally out, really appreciate them now tho.

  • DANCE WHITE BOY DANCE!

love that bit at 3:30 to 3:40 or so, so trippy!

  • I don't know. I just call it "The Big Suit." Doesn't change that it's pure awesome.

  • TALKING HEADS PURE PURE CLASS

  • Do y'all remember when Rich Hall did a takeoff on this on SNL back in the day? He wore the big suit and changed the words to "Once in a Lifetime":

    And you may ask yourself

Does this come in my size?

    And you may ask yourself

Can this be taken in a little?

    HAHAHA

  • Everything the likes of franz ferdinand would like to be but never will be!

  • if i had that suit i'd wear it at least twice a week.

  • I'd wear it a lot more than that...

  • This has to go down as one of the best live performances - ever! Today's evolution of progressive R&R music owes a LOT to the Talking Heads!

  • Fantastic :-)

I've got to agree with you:-)

Like so many scots, they are original ;-)

  • Stop Making Sense is one of the best concert movies from a directorial standpoint. David Byrne planned out everything, from the band coming out piece by piece, to how he would move around the stage, check get the DVD and watch it, there are several pages from the planning on the extras, with drawings showing exactly how it would happen...awesome David Byrne was... genius is stretching it, but a very good thinker

  • The big suit is so perfect

  • ye it makes that dance look so mad..

  • Thank you for this video.I love Talking heads.CROATIA.

  • einfach nur geil. danke. thx

  • saw this at the nyc rock n roll hall of fame annex. wtf. its awesome.

  • he wanted his head to look small ha ha would you beleive that

  • its simply called a "big suit"

  • or "huge suit"

  • He like geometric shapes.

  • it's a uckin' over size suit!

  • could anyone tell me what is the zoot suit? (I'm not from USA)

  • a zoot suit is a tux-like coat/pants combo usually worn by members of particular mexican gangs in the south.

  • A long coat with wide padded shoulders ! Does look like it does,nt it ? Maybe Byrne over did it a bit but tha,ts Byrne ;)

  • He did it on purpose so he could do his neck deck + be a talking head.

  • Actually originally worn by people swing dancing in the 1920's though.

  • this is not a zoot suit. stop making nonsense

  • who wants to be a backup singer?

  • would be the raddest halloween costume

  • I wana dance like David B.

  • Who doesn't?

  • No.

  • Stop Making Sence is the best concert film I have ever seem. Better than Pink Floyd,s "Live at Pompay" and Led Zeppelin's "The Song Remains the Same".

    Johnathan Demme should be awarded.

  • Nah, I felt he stuck on David Byrne's face too much.

  • better than song remains the same lol

    good one

  • Goes to show how a stage presence trumps the lyricks on any song.. Oh yeah, and the Cowbell. LOL.

  • Stop making sense.

  • it's funny im so against technology and key boards but the talking heads are awesome...i think its because theyre one of the few people who push technology to the limits. like this tune that shits nuts

  • i must have this dvd. david byrne is hilarious.

  • minute 3:15 accentuates the thing about drugs back then :p

  • Ahhh...the "Stuffed Suit"! LOVE it!

  • This video scares me

  • Gotta love the over sized suit

  • tina looks so fuckin sexy

  • sexy, sweet and talented

  • The whole thing was so Andy Warhol.

  • the song is unbeliveble aswom

  • Pour Signora Marci, con amore et sorpresa--

La ragazza con il fumo nei suoi occhi

Il mio Cutie, e migliore di quella

E niente di meglio di questo!

    (Vero, no?)

  • makes you want to dance

  • he looks like daniel plainview when he offers the camera the microphone

  • why couldnt i have been there!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! =(

  • Agree, but I got the next best: The european premiere of the movie.

It's still the best consertmove ever made. The 15 years anniversary DVD was one of my first DVD's. If David care to brush it up to full HD standard on blueray, it will be my first blueray DVD as well!!

BTW: My brother fuckin' lost the DVD, so I dl it....

  • me too

  • are you kidding me this jam is rockin baby

  • He looks EXACTLY like G-Man at 00:43

  • Coolest dance ever...

  • IIRC, I think the suit is called his, "Zoot suit".

  • Danteklfg ,you are right, it,s called a ZOOT suit and has a history of it,s own. I told you I would google it, well, just type ZOOT Suit and you got pages from wikipedia and others.qoute "also spelled Zuit-Suit suit with a long coat with wide padded shoulders" It was worn in the 30,s 40,s , there,s even been a riat over in it that time ;)

  • it's not a zoot suit.

  • Comment removed

  • yes!

  • The big suit ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • toniiah who ever the hell u r take that pole out of your ass and stop dissing tha talking heads they're awsime and if u dont think so then just dont listen 2 the fucking song!

  • Fantastic! love it!

  • Burtons really messed up when they decided not to stock that suit as an off-the-peg item. Who wouldn't want to go to a job interview dressed like that?

  • Haha, fantastic.

  • Simply awesome. Nice suit!

  • BRILLIANT!

  • you should see Sheila Sommers twirl

  • aww yeah!

    i feel like dancing =)

  • Then do !!!!!!

  • i love this song

  • Wow!!!

I love this song and have for years. I've saved this vid to my favorites. It's awesome!

I dig how he passes the mic to the camera man then smiles...haha.

    cool...

    Thanks for posting it

  • The studio version of this is good, but this is even better. Watching them play is half of the experience.

Also, when Byrne offers the cameraman the mike(4:07)... even he laughs.

    Lol

  • If it's not your kind of music then don't listen and stop complaining.

  • Tina is playing bass on a keyboard on this track, you can see her around 3.30 (ish) - although she really is a great bass player too, and for her to be able to switch to keyboard, well, that's great as well!

  • the chick on the bass/synth bass is fucking amazing.

  • thats tina weymouth for ya

  • thanks, i really wanted her name.

  • anytime

  • Yeah!! How many people rock harder live than fully produced. TALENT!!!!

  • the sound was record digitally afterwards...just in case you didn't know

  • This live version is waaaaay much better than the album version. Love the Prophet 5-squeals! :)

  • I love this song. 4:08 "Hey camera man, wanna sing??" Lol

  • The big suit rocks!!! Fantastic song.

  • The big suit is in the Rock Hall of Fame

  • You can tell that there's something about David Byrne that dose;t come to surface. I think he has some form of autism that lets him be so insane without realizing it

  • Turnarr, you're an idiot! It is a perfectly crafted concert.... something that 90% of todays bands couldn't do if they tried

  • Een niet alledaagse kleermaker

  • David Byrne is so cool, How can you not like the big suit it totally rocks...

  • Well the whole concert on film was filmed over 3 or 4 nights. And nobody thinks it's a perfectly crafted concert. We know it is. Perfect !

  • THE BIG SUIT :)

  • It was a concert series ass clown. Contradiction ?? Me no see contradiction.

  • sounds like a crazy lounge lizards breakfast. delicious absolutely...

  • Um, it may be difficult for your MTV mind to grasp but before the movie it was an actual concert and I most certainly experienced it in 1983 (perhaps before you were born?). I wasn't claiming to have attended the filming of this video. Now come back and cuss me out, which seems to be the practice here...

  • Well, he started out in Funkadelic and then worked in Parliment-Funkadelic.

    In a word, yes.

  • Their synth effects are fantastic...great bass lines, fantastic lyrics...David's voice is so penetrating...great band.

  • I just want to say that Bernie Worell (of Funkadelic fame) was the synth player.

I don't say this to show off my personal music encyclopedia, I do because he's an incredible musician that deserves more recognition.

  • Yup, this was the best concert I ever attended, period. And I've been to many in my 45 years. I may have seen some bigger bands in bigger venues (Stones, Zep, The Who, etc.) but I never had more fun at a concert - the crowd was out of their seats from the first strum of Psycho Killer to the very end. Sure wish they would do a reunion tour. I miss them and the Tom Tom Club.

  • REUNION TOUR! Bust out the big suit, David Byrne!

  • i didnt even know this was the talking heads i heard younder mountian string band play this live

  • Such a classic song. Ever been to the rock and roll hall of fame? They have a picture of polaroids placed in a larger picture of the talking heads. It is really cool.

  • Their keyboards always kicked such ass...I love that they are such a modern sound...very streamlined...futuristic sound.

  • The man was and is a genius.

  • The mark of Greatness are the things that withstand the test of Time .The Talking Heads should be in the Hall of Fame ,Lets make it happen people !!!!!

  • they are...inducted in 2002

  • Just one of my all-time fav tunes and films ever! David Byrne and Talking Heads are still way ahead of what passes for popular and alternative music. The music still holds up and their genius remains undimished. Unlike so many today - Byrne never had to build himself up and drone about his greatness. The proof was in the product - and that is not something that can easily be said about what dominates the charts right now.

  • brilliant then and now! One of the truly innovative bands and incredible talents of the rock n roll, new wave era.
