@Holothurion RARE was family to NINTENDO. To tell you the truth, I liked MIDWAY better then Netherrealm Studios. They made the best games back in the day before Netherrealm Studios and WBE came up. It's all about MIDWAY's title.

@XxNINJh20AxX no one else than rare is to blame. they wanted to act like they were the best out there and suddenly started checking for new buyers. nintendo was owning 51% of rare and they didn't need to own more than that. rare unsatisfied wanted to be bought at 100% so they reached out to microsoft.
Truth is nintendo never wanted to sell them to any1 else but rare insisted. Anyway i think it's for the best because rare had already lost some of their best programmer.

@Atstyle When Microsoft bought out Rare there was a specific clause in the deal Nintendo made to Rare in the beginning stating that Nintendo will always maintain sole rights to their creations (i.e. Donkey Kong) and Rare keeps what they came up with (i.e. Banjo). So when Microsoft came and bought Rare Banjo became theirs but DK remained Nintendo's
as we know Killer instinct was developed by Rare and Published by Nintendo so .. legally K/I is now Microsoft's

About KI the main reason we havent seen a sequel is that theres an issue with the franchise. unlike other (perfect dark/banjo/etc) KI's trademark was(and still is) own by Nintendo which refrain Ms to release one.

btw, Rare owns KI and Microsoft owns Rare. Rare makes Kinect games, so the possibility of KI3 is slim, but would be the best American fighting game. it had the SF control scheme, mixed in with MK's violence/gore, with a unique combo-style. i think KI3 would bring in players from all over the world, MK's control scheme is too different.

What you should have done was ask your question to me than in a SEPARATE post say, "To those people whom still think Nintendo owns Rare" and continue on with your dissertation from there.
Cont: It has become very expensive to develop video games for console. Both for the major entities like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, and also for the third-party companies. Nintendo lost nearly a billion dollar in profit last year, and Sony lost 3 billion. One of the reason why gaming apps having become so popular and plentiful is because they are far less expensive to make and easier to deploy. Also, we are reaching a level of diminishing returns in terms of graphics.
Finish: At a certain point games will look as good or as real as they can look. From that point it will be more about innovation of gameplay. Streaming content also has become more the norm in video game industry too. I think that the next-gen will be consoles that are as beefing Spec-wise as each company and financially afford to make, and from there it will be about creativity and innovation.
@D2Kprime i was gonna address everyone, but i didn't have enough characters. i also didn't feel like typing out a separate comment cuz it was kinda on the fly. i meant to address everyone with that comment, but urs caught my eye. also, streaming may be effective, but A LOT of people are not ok with that technology atm. i know netflix lost so many users cuz they're getting rid of their DVD options. people would rather have hard copies, besides downloading/streaming complicates things.
@Hacks1124 : I think that is debatable. I would rather have a copy of a game that always exists in cyberspace rather than a hard copy that I can lose and have to buy over again if I did. For instance, once you buy a game on XBLA, it's yours forever. If you sell your 360, it's gets stolen, the house burns down, whatever. It will always be available to download again. Even if it is no longer available to buy, you can still find it in your DL history. To me that is a better deal.
@D2Kprime for example, some content gets downloaded directly to a profile. so if u want to use it on another, that option is unavailable. i think streaming is going to be the next step, but i don't think people are ready atm and companies seem to really be pushing that idea on consumers, which isn't very smart.
@Hacks1124 : I think people are ready. 10 years ago it wasn't a feasible idea because broadband internet was still fairly new and even the fastest speeds it would take you several hours to download a full game. Now broadband internet is the norm and some companies offer speeds better than 50 MBPS. XBLA and PSN were project to test those waters. It's a lot cheaper to make a game for download than to manufacture thousands of discs. Streaming will play a major role in the next gen.
@D2Kprime it'll work with games tho, way before it will with movies. speaking of sony and microsoft, sony pretty much shot itself in the foot. i think consumers have lost their trust with sony, i will never buy a sony console ever again. they came out with blu ray tech. which pretty much gave developers a hard time making/emulating games. the network hack, and the cost in the beginning. i think sony is dead done as far as gaming, microsoft will go on strong tho.
@Hacks1124: Yeah. Forcing BLU-RAY on everyone is basically the same mistake Nintendo make in the mid 1990's by sticking with cartridges rather than CDs. Microsoft is all screwed up. Instead of just testing out the motion-control waters they jumped in the deep-end of the pool without knowing how to swim. Now they are trying to shove Kinect into everything. There are a lot of people whom would rather press a button than wave their arms around for an interface.
Cont: I think it will come down to Microsoft and Nintendo with Sony being the odd man out. Nintendo may opt to focus more on handheld gaming after the Wii U's cycle is over because that is enough to sustain them. Microsoft will probably try to combine all their assets into one system The 720 will probably have Windows 8 on it, and I think they might be finally ready to release a handheld which will have similar interface functionality to the Wii U controller and Vita.

I know the days of arcades are long gone, and I do miss them, but if Mortal Kombat can get a reinvention along with Super Street Fighter IV, and do fairly well both with online play and with the support of EVO, I don't see why KI couldn't make a comeback.

If anything this is the perfect time to release a new killer instinct game because right now fighting games are making a come back with Street Fighter 4, Mortal Kombat 2011, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Soul Calibur 5. Rare or how ever is currently holding the rights really needs to jump on this. Also with Street Fighter x Tekken coming out imagine a Killer Instinct x Mortal Kombat
@xenodragonful : Just go ahead and get started on making it yourself. The only way Killer Instinct 3 will EVER be made is if Nintendo buys the rights of the KI franchise back from Rare. If there is one mistake Nintendo has yet to rectify it was turning over those franchises to Rare when the sale to Microsoft occurred. We can only pray that somehow behind the scenes Nintendo has indeed bought the rights to KI back and it will be a launch title for the Wii U.
If Nintendo would have Retro Studios actually remake K.I. I would bow to them. When this game hit arcade in 1995 I literally had to wait in line 4 like 2 or 3 hours just to get in 1 game.This game would really help Nintendo sell there new console.

Retro Studios would actually make a very good Killer Instinct game. They did a good job with Metroid Prime 1 and 2 along with DKCR. They are Nintendo's answer for games intended for Western audiences
Okay, so game informer said that tomorrow, January 5th, they're going to announce a game that will be a "huge shocker for the old school gamers" and the biggest shock "is apparently the company producing it". It would be a pretty safe bet that Killer Instinct 3 is on the way. Or possibly a new Banjo-Kazooie or Conker game? I mean there's just too much evidence. What other game could it be. Oh did I mention the game would be an edition to an established series?
but the wii u is just really an add on for the wii i dont have a wii u (if it has even cam out yet) but i think you need a wii to actually play games on the wii u i dont think it has (or will have) its own games

Cont: It has become very expensive to develop video games for console. Both for the major entities like Microsoft, Nintendo, and Sony, and also for the third-party companies. Nintendo lost nearly a billion dollar in profit last year, and Sony lost 3 billion. One of the reason why gaming apps having become so popular and plentiful is because they are far less expensive to make and easier to deploy. Also, we are reaching a level of diminishing returns in terms of graphics.

Finish: At a certain point games will look as good or as real as they can look. From that point it will be more about innovation of gameplay. Streaming content also has become more the norm in video game industry too. I think that the next-gen will be consoles that are as beefing Spec-wise as each company and financially afford to make, and from there it will be about creativity and innovation.

@D2Kprime i was gonna address everyone, but i didn't have enough characters. i also didn't feel like typing out a separate comment cuz it was kinda on the fly. i meant to address everyone with that comment, but urs caught my eye. also, streaming may be effective, but A LOT of people are not ok with that technology atm. i know netflix lost so many users cuz they're getting rid of their DVD options. people would rather have hard copies, besides downloading/streaming complicates things.

@Hacks1124 : I think that is debatable. I would rather have a copy of a game that always exists in cyberspace rather than a hard copy that I can lose and have to buy over again if I did. For instance, once you buy a game on XBLA, it's yours forever. If you sell your 360, it's gets stolen, the house burns down, whatever. It will always be available to download again. Even if it is no longer available to buy, you can still find it in your DL history. To me that is a better deal.

@D2Kprime for example, some content gets downloaded directly to a profile. so if u want to use it on another, that option is unavailable. i think streaming is going to be the next step, but i don't think people are ready atm and companies seem to really be pushing that idea on consumers, which isn't very smart.

@Hacks1124 : I think people are ready. 10 years ago it wasn't a feasible idea because broadband internet was still fairly new and even the fastest speeds it would take you several hours to download a full game. Now broadband internet is the norm and some companies offer speeds better than 50 MBPS. XBLA and PSN were project to test those waters. It's a lot cheaper to make a game for download than to manufacture thousands of discs. Streaming will play a major role in the next gen.

@D2Kprime it'll work with games tho, way before it will with movies. speaking of sony and microsoft, sony pretty much shot itself in the foot. i think consumers have lost their trust with sony, i will never buy a sony console ever again. they came out with blu ray tech. which pretty much gave developers a hard time making/emulating games. the network hack, and the cost in the beginning. i think sony is dead done as far as gaming, microsoft will go on strong tho.

@Hacks1124: Yeah. Forcing BLU-RAY on everyone is basically the same mistake Nintendo make in the mid 1990's by sticking with cartridges rather than CDs. Microsoft is all screwed up. Instead of just testing out the motion-control waters they jumped in the deep-end of the pool without knowing how to swim. Now they are trying to shove Kinect into everything. There are a lot of people whom would rather press a button than wave their arms around for an interface.

Cont: I think it will come down to Microsoft and Nintendo with Sony being the odd man out. Nintendo may opt to focus more on handheld gaming after the Wii U's cycle is over because that is enough to sustain them. Microsoft will probably try to combine all their assets into one system The 720 will probably have Windows 8 on it, and I think they might be finally ready to release a handheld which will have similar interface functionality to the Wii U controller and Vita.

I know the days of arcades are long gone, and I do miss them, but if Mortal Kombat can get a reinvention along with Super Street Fighter IV, and do fairly well both with online play and with the support of EVO, I don't see why KI couldn't make a comeback.

If anything this is the perfect time to release a new killer instinct game because right now fighting games are making a come back with Street Fighter 4, Mortal Kombat 2011, Marvel vs Capcom 3, Soul Calibur 5. @xenodragonful : Just go ahead and get started on making it yourself. The only way Killer Instinct 3 will EVER be made is if Nintendo buys the rights of the KI franchise back from Rare. If there is one mistake Nintendo has yet to rectify it was turning over those franchises to Rare when the sale to Microsoft occurred. We can only pray that somehow behind the scenes Nintendo has indeed bought the rights to KI back and it will be a launch title for the Wii U.

so real looking but if they didnt make this but wanted to release a killer instinct game,they should release a title like killer instinct:killer collection in this they would have the same ports of killer instinct(arcade,home console,game boy) along with killer instinct 2(arcade,home console) and put in the sound track for both games and versions.even if they didnt do it why not put it on the virtual console either for wii or 3ds/both.if they did make a new one put dlc for all charater we know

Retro Studios would actually make a very good Killer Instinct game. They did a good job with Metroid Prime 1 and 2 along with DKCR. They are Nintendo's answer for games intended for Western audiences

Okay, so game informer said that tomorrow, January 5th, they're going to announce a game that will be a "huge shocker for the old school gamers" and the biggest shock "is apparently the company producing it". It would be a pretty safe bet that Killer Instinct 3 is on the way. Or possibly a new Banjo-Kazooie or Conker game? I mean there's just too much evidence. What other game could it be. @SWORDENxxxSPARDA I know right, I heard it was fantastic (i dont own it myself but I really want to get it and an N64, I grew up with the ps1) then for some reason they screwed it up with nuts and bolts making it a kids building game instead of using the things that made BK good in the first place. and CONKERS TOO, they screwed that up on the original xbox, I played the demo and it was terrible
