  • Great job as usual!, I see you recommend humbrol enamels, when you paint large exterior surfaces what is your paint to thinner ratio? if any. I'm sure the color depends on the ratio as well?

  • Hmm, this model ALMOST looks like a Fokke Wulf model I saw a while back... Good job on it though! :D

  • Good work:) ICM are really curious kits, sometimes tricky but nice detaliled.

  • @wolf6500 Yes.. I find the main problem tend to be their decals... :)

  • Nice build consideering the problems encountered. Well done this only goes to show how skilled you are . Thanks

  • @TheSeasonman1 Thank you... it has put me off building another ICM kit though.. :P Trouble is, I have a few and I sort of want to build them, but the decals makes me think twice.. :(

  • What is the intro flute music? I know the main theme is wilhelm siegesmarch

  • @ModellMeister I don't know.. This intro was made for my by the YouTuber PuppyZwolle.. sadly I no longer have this intro to use, as it was saved on my old computer (which broke) and neither he nor I made a back-up copy.. :(

  • Take a look at my Messerschmitt Bf 109 F

I've refound modelling after many years and would appreciate some constructive criticism. Just starting to remember all the techniques. Tools and paints etc are much better than they were 20 years ago!!

  • A Buidling Review? LOL

  • @papageno01 Yes.. ? :)

  • This was a nice build.

  • @ModelingGuy I have known better.. :) The decals let the kit down.. badly!! :P

  • @BasicModelling thanks much obliged

  • what do you use for the rigging?

  • @TheWelshEgg Elasticated thread.. it's very good! :)

  • the little figure, pilot is so lovely, after you added it inside the cockpit ! And the plane is so a surprising, after you made a Klear on it, it seems like you spray on it, though you said you don't like using spray !? i quitted model-assembling long time ago, one of the reasons is i don't like to wear a mask, and do spray! It hurts our lungs more! And i like this plane, because i like straight shape more than curve shape models! :)

  • @talkonfox I always brush on the Klear.. :) The only colours I don't brush on are white, yellow and orange, which I do from a spray can, outside.. :)

  • very nice model, im 13 and i quite like making model aircraft myself, ive made around 7 of them, including a 1/35 scale supermarine spitfire.....nice job on the 109, was a great fighter!

  • @f22raptor861 Thank you... Glad you liked it!! The Bf 109 was one of the best fighters around, at the time.. but not without flaws! The main problem was its short range.. In the Battle of Britain it could only fly over England for a short period of time before having to go back to base and refuel.. but other than that it was an excellent fighter.. :)

  • I really want to build the Messerschmitt BF109E. Not this one. The one with a yellow nose

  • @logantheace Than I strongly recommend that you do so... :)

  • I will build this Me-109 version soon! :) 5****!

  • @tankman13p66 Just beware the dreadful decals.. :)

  • THIS IS SEXY!

  • @spanish111japan Sure is.. :)

  • Nice Bf-109, to be quite frank it does differ to some others that i built :/

  • @Ezza190 Some claim this to be the most accurate version, but I don't know.. I'm no expert! But I do know it differs quite a bit from the Academy kit, at least when it comes to the canopy.. :)

  • its a perfect model you made there! i wonder if ICM fixed their decals by now..

  • @HeartGoldMVP I doubt it.. :) But we can always hope.. :)

  • @BasicModelling on the other hand, i like how the model has only one choice of the E-4, because when i build models i have a difficulty choosing from the good decals!

  • @HeartGoldMVP I have the same problem.. It has happened that I have bought 3 (or more) boxes of a kit, just to build ALL the versions in the box!! :)

  • how many spitfires could it shoot down ?

  • @DROLL30 ..as many as happen to come in the way of its guns, I guess.. not quite sure what you mean.. :)

  • Agreed completely. This is unfortunately the weak side of ICM.

  • @Flanker0804 Sadly so.. I have a couple of ICM 1/48 P-51 B Mustangs and a 1/48 Spitfire VII, and the kits are very good, even though the Spitfire is causing me some bother, which is why I'm having a break from it at the moment.. :)

  • One of the best kits of this fighter available. Still don't have one though...

  • @Flanker0804 The kit is very very good.. just don't get me started on the *&%^&$£^ decals.. :)

  • I find that the 109 is the easiest plane to start on becuase of the small amount of pieces and the simple assembly and you end up witha a great model!

  • @148scalemodeling True.. but I'm a bigger fan of the Fw 190.. :)

  • Thanks for uploading this Video! (NICE)

  • @norwegianModelKid Selv takk.. :)

  • hey man i just got into making models of planes, this is the first one i made! i use italeri because it is the only brand avaliable for me. great job btw, and do you have any tips because my plane looks OK but could be better.

  • @TheWhiteOwl23 Wellcome to the hobby!! My main tip is not to rush things but to go slow.. use Humbrol enamel paints if can get them and make sure the first coat of paint is properly dry before you paint any more.. otherwise you'll have fingerprints all over! But keep watching muy videos and you'll get some good ideas, I hope.. as of what to do.. :)

  • cool thanks man, im gonna go buy another this week and see if i can do it better haha. cheers!

  • That is a nice scheme! Also, handpainted, you say? They look fantastic! What paint do you use? I use Tamiya Acrylics but my brush painting sucks!

  • @Jaliya48 @Jaliya48 I prefer Humbrol enamels, as they can be thinned and brush on quite well.. but I also use Revell and Xtracolor paints, when need be.. As for acrylics, I sometimes use Xtracrylics for some German planes, as they come in proper Luftwaffe shades.. and for figures I tend to use LifeColor acrylics.

  • I only have one bottle of Tamiya acrylic, it's the 'chromate yellow', which I use for the interior of the wheel wells on some Thunderbolts and Mustangs.. somebody gave it to me half full for free, it has lasted me years.. :) :) It's not easy to brushpaing acrylics, because they dry so fast.. :)

  • yes, acrylics are a pain to brush on! I'm not so keen on using enamels, but might buy the basic colours (black, white, yellow, red) so I can do the small parts with the brush.

    Thank you!

  • @Jaliya48 Good idea.. I think the majority of modellers do that.. some detailed stuff is just too small to be airbrushed.. :)

  • lovely model.... and it made it using the German March from Battle of Britain! My favourite War Film!

I'm used to seeing Messers in Grey with Yellow tip, was the livery used after the livery seen in Battle of Britain?

    Great work as usual chap!

    Tom

  • Do you mean yellow nose, or yellow wingtips?? I think they used the yellow wingtips more on the Eastern front.. over Russia.. Haven't really looked into the German camo, and what they used where and when.. sorry!! :)

  • thin decals are really hard to work with airfix have produced some with the lancaster bomber battle of britain set.

but if you get them right first time i.e without having to reposition they are awesome. you dont really need setting soloution with thin decals. i dont see where the decal print is wrong though some of the crosses were like that obviously on a black model they wont show but is there no other option for the kit or is it out and out night fighter?

  • Yes, the clue is to get them right the first time... which isn't always that easy!! :) Since building this I have read somewhere that the decals ARE wrong, and I think ICM will rectify it in future releases.. The planes had to wear visible ID to prevent friendly fire et.c, so no plane, not even the nightfighters, would have gone without the crosses on the wings.. :)

  • that E-4 model I think is 'newer' in the last 2 to 3 years. Not an older model sitting around.

The Me109 planes were awesome fighter planes! taking B-17's out of the sky and other allied fighters!

    P-51's against a Me109 is a great fight....but a P-47 against a Me109 is still a good fight.

  • Well, this particular kit was only released last month or so.. but the model itself is probably a bit older! It will be interesting to compare it with the Academy E3 / E4 kits I also have.. This is not a bad kit, but not as good as I thought it would be, and the decals were a criminal offence!! I'm a P-47 fan, over the P-51, but both fighters had their own qualities.. I still think I would have preferred the P-47 if I was a pilot during that period in time though.. it's more rugged!! :)

  • i think that the spit fire and the p-51D would be a good challenge

  • at fiddlersgreen u can get the e-4

  • Yes, I quite liked the look of those paper models.. one day I may well get round to do some, I have built paper models before.. :0)

  • they r kinda expencive BUT if u make a account u get 3 free models choce out of 75

  • Yes, they have some really good stuff.. I'm quite tempted.. :)

  • good job mate(: did you use airbrush ?

  • Nope.. I only ever hand brush!! One day I may get round to airbrushing, but at the moment I haven't got anywhere to do it properly.. :) Thank you.. :)

  • in my 2 bf-109 sets, 1 cannot fit both of the pilots, i must of made a mistake

  • What make are the kits?? :)

  • 21st cenutry toys

  • The instrument panel was definitely the best part of the model. It looked good once completed! I like the dark color.

  • Thank you.. yes, it wwas a very nicely made panel.. that and the wing fit was the only good things about that kit, really.. :)

  • Are you shure that those decals are mis-printed? I'm not an expert at markings and what not, but the white outline might have caused problems with search lights, so they could, by some weird circumstances, be accurate.

  • Well, if the decals aren't missprinted, then the decal instructions and box art are.. so I think it must be the decals.. there wouldn't be any point in having black crosses on a black aircraft.. the id has to be there, if only to protect against friendly fire.. :)

  • i would get the glue stuck to my fingers and probably the parts lol but my borther would be awesome at doing models , he has a collection he has made at home even the titanic

  • I get glued up all the time, especially when I use superglue.. :) :)

  • Very nice model, Rob! Of course you know I really dig your soundtracks... These marches reminded me of my dad. they were his favorite music... I think those years in the Hitler Youth had something to do with it :)

  • Yes, I guess that could give you a taste for marches, if you had such a background.. :) :)

  • well done. Tough to make 1/72 look good but you succeded.

  • Thank you.. :) All over black is soo complicated, you know.. :) :)

  • now that I have my new comp built and using linux and I can now enlarge nicely, I can see the creases in the paper the model was placed upon lol :) great vid and music fits and nice that you mentioned the Finns :)

  • Yes, the paper is getting old, but I have bought a new sheet to use for my next video.. and when I next build a Messerschmitt, it will most likely be the new Airfix Bf 109 G-6, which comes with Finnish markings.. but I won't promise when.. :)

  • hooorah ! hooorah! you could make it part of the f19 group even though they only flew antiquated aircraft:)

  • Ja ja unt nein.. with sausages..

  • your plane could have just 3 cylinders from an old SAAB !

  • great video rob

we need to do some sort of creative video

    love and respect

    scotty and libby:)

  • Nice work! I heard that this plane crashed alot during landings in WW2 due to its wing design. But in the air it was very formidable fighter. ;-)

  • half way through i was thinking it wasnt to look that good in the black but the finished model looks great :D 5*

  • Pls note the interesting feature that this Emil does not wear a JG (fighter) code, but that of a KG (bomber) or ZG (destroyer). Good paintjob... allover black;-)))

  • Thanks for the info, I don't know how the German codes work, but I guess a 'zerstorer' would fit.. :) And yes, I love these complicated German camouflages as you know.... :) :)

  • Beautiful plan

  • Yes, it's not too bad I guess.. I just felt let down by the poor decals.. Thank you.. :)

  • nice one... i'm reading antony beevor's book on the spanish civil war and i've been thinking of building either an 109 or an ju87 in leigon condor colours...

  • Yes, that would be nice.. I was thinking more of building a 'Rata' that flew for the opposition though, because I want something from the Spanish civil war.. :)

  • well... if i build a 109, it has to be a crashed on... no support to franco from me... ;)

  • This model looks very nice and canopy fits very well :) 5/5

  • Thank you.. The canopy had some very fine flash on it, and needed a bit of sanding down to fit but it was worth the effort.. :)

  • the 109 is my favorite GERMAN plane

  • There's so many of them, though.. :) I will build the NEW Airfix G-6 at some point, and have THREE Academy E-3 / E-4's to build.. one will be as flown by the RAF, another one as flown by the Russians.. and I may even make one as flown by the Luftwaffe.. just to be original!! :)

  • try the revell model it needs no filler and the decals are all great and theres no flash its on 4 sprues and the canopys great it has 3 turrets and it can have wheels or not :)

  • sorry i repelyed o the wrong coment sorry :) i was talking about the PBY-5

  • Didn't know taht Revell had made a Catalina.. :) That's news to me.. Is it in 1/72 scale?? :)

  • yep and its pretty big

  • It's a shame about the decals, but there are ways around that, as you've demonstrated. You did a lovely job with this model, as always! I also love how you make your kit reviews an educational experience too. :)

  • Well, I make the videos more to tell people about the kits, in case they want to buy them, or have one already but not yet built, rather than to show any skills.. if I had any to show.. :) I guess it is a bit of problem solving as well, when needed.. :) I try and make the videos enjoyable to all.. :)

  • Hi Rob!

Great video as always. Please see this weekends Reptile Ridge, will post later this eve. Also see my latest aviation vid.:)

I hope all's going good for you & yours.

    Sherry

  • Thank you.. I'll do my best to watch it tomorrow in the morning, or Monday, as we will be going to London again tomorrow afternoon.. :(

  • Good work :) painting too

  • All over black is soo hard to do.. not!! :) :) Glad you liked it.. I'll do some more nightfighters on and off, I have Mosquitos, Hurricanes and various US Nightfighters in the pipeline, as well as an I-15.. :)

  • cool plane as always, can i ask that you do a PBY-5 catalina next time but if you have somthing already planed then its fine

  • I don't have a Catalina kit in my stash at the moment.. but will most likely buy the Academy kit at some point.. :) I made the Airfix kit ages ago, and it's not bad, but the Academy is most likely much better.. :)

  • Good footage !

  • Thank you.. Not the best model I've ever made, but it's the only 'Emil' I currently have in my collection.. :)

  • I used to be addicted to all kinds of WW 2 games, so I know almost every item

  • Glad you do.. I wish I did!! :)

  • nice work..again!

  • Thank you, Sir.. I haven't forgotten your videos, by the way.. Hopefully I'll be round in the week, as tomorrow we're London bound.. :P

  • ALWAYS A PLESURE!!! VERY NICE 5/5

  • Isn't it just!! I aim to please.. :) :) Looking forward to doing my Academy E-3 and E-4 kits, just to compare.. :)
