i dont think Zidane intended to be sent off.
Zidane wanted to hit materazzi and at the same time run away from being red carded,because he wanted to help his team until the end of the match.
he knew the ref would not see his headbutt,
thats why he did that.
but the 4th official saw that and told the referee to sent off Zidane.
eventhough Zidane headbutt was wrong,
but the 4th official also not fair,using replay board to watch Zidane's headbutt, which broken FIFA rules,but FIFA lie denying it

same case like Maradona hand of God.
but Maradona fortunately escaped from punishment.
Maradona should have been red carded if the assistant referee using replay to see that hand of god
