This is the perfect set of pictures for this classic Copland piece. Check out Christopher Brelloch's original version of this tune, it's breathtaking.
I rarely comment on videos, and I have NEVER commented on the same video twice, but I watched this again, several days later. Truly this is a great video. Great concept. Great execution. Many of Logue's photos can be seen on the Web, but nowhere are they combined with appropriate music like this. Very nice. Also, I'm originally from L.A., so I know how fantastic it is to see the city empty. Reminds me of the 1985 movie from New Zealand titled "The Quiet Earth."
Outstanding video. Matt Logue got his empty shots by setting a camera on a tripod and shooting hundreds of photos of each scene, all at once, so if a car covered a spot of pavement in one frame, then that spot was clear during the next click of the shutter. Then he digitally fused all the blank spaces to create one uninhabited whole. The result is apocalyptic yet serene. And with Copeland’s music, this is truly an impressive video. My compliments! Reminds me of the 1971 “The Omega Man” movie.
There is a new recording of this for small ensemble (as it would have been performed with the play) based on Copland's original score, which recently came to light. There was a recent performance of it at Mr.Copland's former home on his birthday.
@stikkyniks22: Thank you for supplying his name. I had recently heard a fascinating radio news item on his discovery of the music. I'm glad you enjoyed the performance.
This is so well done! I love it! I think the music came from Copland's only venture into Broadway stage where his play failed. I like how you matched the music with the L.A. scenes. Wonderful! Thank you.
It's amazing how beautiful our cities can be on weekends and weekdays just as the dawn is breaking...to which these wonderful images attest. Every photo is shot with the sun muted by overcast or low on the horizon. A lone vehicle is sometime seen, but not often.
...amid all the hustle and bustle of daily life, I can forget just what an incredibly beautiful city this is, and how fortunate I am to Iive here. So many shots reminded me of where I have lived, walked, worked, and more... Thanks.
Stunning compilation of images that so evokes this piece. Well done. Thank you. Though some have tried to illustrate this music with images of a city at night, while all the busy-ness appears asleep, your choices tell a different and startling, curious tale.
South Bay baby! Did you take these pics? I saw my house. Photoshop?

@aarfeld Yes, Christopher Brellochs is the one who discovered the original instrumentation. That was an amazing show.

@isreal0312 depends much on the place, the hour, and of course you can always throw some photoshop in it.

Sheer brilliance, Copland - understated, evocative, melancholic, haunting.
