In fact, the MiG-25 was a response to the SR-71, and ended up not being a great fighter after all. You could say that the F-14 was a MiG-25 copy if you continued to believe that we copied Russia, but, alas, they were merely responses.

Wrong. Despite what you pretend to think, the Mig-25 was the result of the Soviet's attempt to design a jet capable of intercepting a super-sonic bomber; not a super-sonic recon aircraft. After the cancelation of the Valkyrie bomber, the Mig-25 was pitted against the SR-71 only as an afterthought because it was the only > Mach 3 jet in the Soviet arsenal. Please, read up on the history and the development of the XB-70 and Mig-25 before you comment further.

@sierra190MK My friend, the Tu-28/Tu-128 was the response to the XB-70, and only 2 B-70's were made, and one blew up during testing. The Tu-28/Tu-128 is a supersonic bomber. The MiG-25 was introduced in full flex in 1970, and the SR-71 in 1966. That is a four year difference. The MiG-25 was designed as a High Altitude interceptor to counter the A-12 and SR-71, and the proposed "YF-12", an interceptor variant of the A-12. The B-70 is absolutely nothing.

You must not only think about strength and stealth, but about cost, durability, radar range, capacity, size and control difficulty. Mig-29 is the greatest machine that flies.

Let's come up with counters to your points. For cost, IIRC it's just a tad less than an Eagle, certainly more than a Falcon. For durability, russian engines are notorious for unreliability compared with American counterparts. Fulcrum has worse radar than Eagle, Falcon, and Flanker, has only 6 missiles to the Eagle's 8, and its unstable design, primitive systems, and lack of fly-by-wire make it difficult to fly compared with F-16 and F-15.

The Raptor is not just designed to slip radar, but for a minimal IR signature as well. Aerial combat is the only definitive test. Later versions would have been destroyed also. The Mig-29 is a crappy fighter because: 1) The Russian Air Force doesn't want it, 2) The design didn't support the strategy of the Russian Air Force in the 80s, 3) Electronics, engines and airframe are poor, 4) Not stealthy, 5) AWACS, tankers, and realistic training are missing. If developed it might be a part of an integrated system, but it isn't yet and the Russians don't know how to do that.

You're talking here like this are video games. In a 5:1 situation the F-15 will turn around and fly away in afterburner. If engaged 5:1 the F-15 will surely loose. Note that not all MiG kills done in serbia and iraq were planes engaged in combat. Serbian MiG-29s were 15 yo downgraded B versions with very bad maintenance and most kills in Iraq were done on planes that were fleeing to Iran.

Wanna know where that 5:1 figure came from? USAF training exercises, 4-6 planes (Eagles and Falcons) were pitted against a single Raptor and got their asses repeatedly handed to them over and over. Look up the results of Operation Red Flag where the Raptor participated, results were about 250:2, two Raptors downed for 250 Eagles and Falcons. Blue Team won almost easily, when in the past (no Raptors) they have often lost.

USAF Training exercises, F-15s and F-16s would go against Raptors 6:1 or more, six conventional fighters vs 1 Raptor. The Raptors have won every time. In the lates Red Flag, Raptor made its first appearance and made the enemy (some of the world's best F-15 and F-16 pilots) extremely angry at not being able to do anything as they were casually cast aside. 250 or so to 2 kill ratio for the Raptor.

The MiG-29 was behind the times as soon as it rolled out of the factory, first deployed in a decade after the F-15, and in avionics, it was a decade behind. And you can't say that stealth is nothing, we proved in the Gulf War with the F-117 and B-2. And yes, I know one of the -117s was shot down, but there would've been about 30 lost if someone had tried it in, say, a MiG-29.

the F-117 was shot down in Serbia by AAA. The Lack of manoeuvrability and speed makes them vulnerable to AAA fire. It's highly inprobable that any fighter, let's say a MiG 29, F-18, F-15( that can use active radar to strike down targets) to be shot down by AAA
