  • so they want use to work instead of just giving up even though life is a endless hell bowl of inescapable milk ?

  • when I am feeling blue, I play a song and I'm better

  • this is fukign genuis!

  • This is exactly why when you win in poker machines, it plays a specific sound. Keeps people coming back and gets them addicted. Scientists publish their work, but businessmen keep their secrets and exploit it.

  • "when given a common anti-depressant drug, the mice showed reduced signs of depression and kept swimming" ..

AND HE STILL CAN'T FUCKING GET OUT !!!!! !!!!!

  • go test rapeists orthe onces that should be dead

  • why are the mice swimming in milk?

    or whatever it is.....

  • Interesting study. Sound and all senses alter moods

"X: The Human Condition" is a live music and film multimedia experience based on longtime struggle with depression.

We've partnered with several charities dedicated to helping others who feel alone, alienated or "different". A portion of proceeds of X: The Human Condition will go to aid this vast community of people overcoming difficulties.

Please visit our channel and we would appreciate it if you could please help spread the word.

    thanks

  • fuck u stop animal testing go to hell

  • @MoonOfChaos You're joking right? Millions of people suffer from depression globally and so many of them commit suicide every year. If depression could be cured once and for all, I would happily kill every god-damned animal on the face of the earth (And then feed them to the poor). Pardon my french, but fuck the animals; prioritize human health.

  • @cjbos81 it is people like you who made this world turn into such a shithole.

  • I take vitamin D and it works just as well as any antidepressant and if taken in moderation has no side effects.

You get D from the sun normally, but since I live in a northern climate, we don't get enough of it, especially in winter.

  • Vilift gave me what i expected from it, gave me what i needed. i really love it and love that it doesn't have any side effects.

  • I like the example given on mice:)

  • This is why many people who are depressed retreat to music. I veiw this as scientific proof that music helps.

  • I am not refuting your statement but I think that you should use the word evidence and not proof.

  • @eaglesfan1978 this is so true

  • Drugs = Sound?

I do not think so. I think everyone here that listens to music of any kind feel better without the addiction and sickness.

P.S. Do not comment me wrong exept if you have proof.

  • Not a drug but a chemical released in the brain that is entirely different from the antidepressant given to the mouse. The tone may lead to new antidepressants! I listen to ambient music while meditating for the same result.

  • Very interesting. Do you think it could have the same kind of effect with other kinds of stimuli like food or perfumes or even specific endeavours like relaxation (which would also demonstrate why people like Legatus put themselves in states of positive stimuli by doing their rituals)?

  • Holy shit.

The hardcore religious should not speak unless spoken to.

This has been a comment in the campaign to END ANNOYING RELIGIOUS ASSHOLES!!

  • Im with you! lol

  • if it can stop depression it can cause depression. check ur tv programming. it tel- lies- t-ur vision

  • I was severely depressed 10 years ago, and I got over it when I admitted that it is just a form of obsession. There is no cure for depression, other than how obsession is treated. People deny their obsession on purpose and that's what causes dramatic problems with depression.

  • Humans dont need drugs for depression. My advise is to get a dog and take it for a walk, take care of it and you soon will be taking care of yourself as well.

  • that was great until the punchline. no more new drugs. if sound or music therapy can work for depression, imagine what else sound can do. stop making more chemicals for people to become dependent on. stop messing with our minds!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Pills (even liquid medication) are the worst thing to advise when someone has depression, I've been a severe sufferer for longer than I can remember and medication does not work, but only makes things worse.

What people who have depression need is a trusting person to talk to and with and work at their own pace, gradually and naturally coming out the other side. It doesn't even need to be a doctor, just someone they can trust and rely on.

  • so music is awesome in yet another way !

  • How could I get this therapy.

  • You can snap your fingers or a similar thing whenever youre happy. After doing this a lot of times, try doing the same gesture when youre not happy. There you have your therapy, and its free.

  • how do you get google ads on your video?

  • If you become a Youtube Partner, you get ads on your videos.

  • Oh my god, you mean we actually store the emotions we felt when performing a certain activity as an association? Groundbreaking! >_>

  • one step away from Scientology (of course without its gimmick crap)

  • Got milk?

  • yup, and rock for anger, and country for depression

  • lool for humans that tone can be technoooo !

  • I didn't know mice suffered from depression. I mean I'd imagine they, above anyone would have feelings of uselessness, but when you can take that much joy in cheese, I really don't see how you could ever be depressed.

  • The white fluid is for the mouse, so that it doesn't drown when it stops swimming. That is part of the reason why the woman is wearing protective gloves, so they do not transmit anything the women has brought in from the outside world to contaminate to experiment.

  • what do they wanna do? put us in a cage and play music for us ?!

  • ha!

  • The mice were also healthier and well toned..LOL

  • ...were they swimming in milk?

  • Poor mouse!

  • That "tone" that could keep people moving or motivated from depression I believe already exist......it's called Music. lol. ;]

  • LOL good point. But I guess the main idea here is for making new drugs.

  • not bad but one question.

Since those were lab mice why did she had to wear all that ? glowes the hat thing etc. I mean its just a mouse and some whitely coloured water its not like its toxic or anything.

  • Good question. It's so that the mice don't catch germs from her or anything she might bring in on her clothes.

  • "not bad but one question.

Since those were lab mice why did she had to wear all that ? glowes the hat thing etc. I mean its just a mouse and some whitely coloured water its not like its toxic or anything."

Good point! While there is probably some practical reason for all that gear, my guess is it's kind of like a uniform. Makes them look the part.

  • Music does the trick.

  • "Music does the trick."

True, but it can also be part of the problem. I still can't get that awful deppressing Christmas music out of my head!

  • Why did they use milk?

  • Did they say it's milk? Not every white liquid is milk! I think it's water with something in it to make it opaque. That's common in such experiments so the mice can't see the ground.

  • But why do they not want to mouse to see the bottom of the pool?

  • Now you are thinking =D Maybe it was some type of liquid that was more dense, making it easier for the mouse to swim around.

  • The ripples look like water/ milk, I'm pretty sure it's not denser then normal water or milk.

  • You are most likely right and I just guessed. Give me an idea why the scientist would have to use this white liquid instead of water? When thinking about why they would do this it came across my mind as a possible reason.

  • The "swimming pool test" is a common stress inducing test. If they can't see the bottom (or even beneath the surface) the mice have to rely on swimming to find a resting place (although in this experiment they won't find one). In clear water they could search visually.

In an experiment you want to control as many variables as possible. If the mouse could see there is no exit, it will change its behaviour.

  • You don't have to be so mean. I thought it was milk too.

  • wow, thats rude, they might be a kid or just inquisitive. you should treat those the way you wanna be treated. or maybe you should listen to a sound while your in a safe place and put it on your ipod

  • Really clever!

  • What a waste of milk!

  • Oh what? Responding to a specific sound to make you feel better?

    Dude, It's called music!

MUSIC DOES THE TRICK, bichez :D

No cookies for this neuroscientist today :D

  • Fascinating stuff! What Science can acheive is wonderful!

  • that's awesome!

  • Wow, that's pretty impressive!
