When I was a kid dad had a old AM radio in the truck so I took my own money, went to WalMart and bought the old cheap Road Master AM FM cassette with two speakers and by the time I got my drivers license Waylon and I had burned that old radio up I wish he was still here and in good health no telling what he might have come up with. I am so glad my dad introduced me to this type of music. I can't name a time something happened that waylon or some type of old country song was playing. I was in the secretary of state today and I heard this girl say what is in Nahville. I was like people just don't know anything about country music today
OL WAYLON seemed like a very nice funny genuine man but he did'nt seem like the type you wanted to try to get over i bet he could rowdy in a heartbeat.I am greatful we got to have all he gave us but i sure wish he was still around.I have never heard anyone with the range variety of music and pure talent HOSS had and don't figure on ever seeing anyone come close.
Greatest country artist of all time...and as I've posted many times...if Buddy hadn't died in that plane he would have become a BIG star much sooner. Buddy was his close friend, mentor and biggest supporter and would have recorded him right!!
@inquiry7 well, as far as him being the greatest country artist of all time, I agree with you 100%, but Chet Atkins produced some bitchin tracks for him too... just check out his pre-outlaw period, it is killer too... check out Mental Revenge, Stop The World and Let Me Off, Nashville Rebel, etc. the list is endless. Actually the whole first "The Journey" boxed set . The second one is awesome too, but it's his transition to his so called Outlaw phase.
@pat976 Chet Atkins is a giant but Buddy was his friend not his A&R man/producer. Plus I'm sure Buddy would have played on the tracks himself instead of the studio musicians Chet used. Buddy was producing himself by the end so Waylon wouldn't have needed Chet and Nashville Studio B.
@inquiry7 Agreed, but the Nashville system at the time was such that you had to use their musicians in the studio... I get what you're saying, he probably would not have recorded in Nashville with Buddy somewhere's else, who knows ?
This has to be one of my favorite Waylon songs.... written by Steve Young. Interestingly enough, Steve Young's son has that Waylon sounds. Genuine, Soulful, Dylan-esque Voice!
He wasn't about country music he was more than that. It was about the music he played and the songs he sang. He put a signiture on his music you could idenify him with. He didn't sound like nobody else but Waylon. He was original and he was my hero. Thanx
@Lessar77 Played his music and I think he played because he loved to play and didn't really care if we loved him or not, Miss you Waylon but still listening to your music.
Waylon pattterned his guitar after Ralph Mooneys steel, then got him to join his band. I do this song in Karoke, sometimes very well. One of his best. He left a stanza out of this one.
i had the pleasure of meating ole waylon one time by accident. in a taco bell in houston town back in 88. i was riding the rails hauling coal southbound to san antonio. and he was doing a show with willie at the astro dome. whats funny is they were more interested in my job. lol and i was in star struck.
thanks for the great reply. its nice to hear a good reply from friends instead of some kid cussing us all the time. lol yea it was a great pleasure meeting two legends in one place. they like to joke and cut up all the time. i asked waylon what was his biggest complaint about singing with willie. he laughed and said willie didnt have any damn rythm. lol and willie said *$&%&#. well you can guess. it was hilarious. godbless.
Waylon was one of a kind. What a guitar player. No one played the style that he did, like he did. No one will fill his shoes. He was too cool for Nashville, and told him to blow ha ha.
Ya'll got it right......the crap that passes for country music these days just blows my mind. The artists these days that are winning Grammy's and being shoved down our throats by popular radio are a bunch of auto-tuned pop stars claiming to be country because they sing with a fake "twang". Whats even worse are the posers claiming to be outlaws. Waylon didn't claim to be an outlaw, he was playing what he felt, and the country scene gave him and others like him the title of "outlaw country".
He would roll over in his grave to know how the so called country music is this day in age. And his boy is so very talented and dont get recognized. RIP Waylon AND live on Shooter and spread the dream of REAL COUNTRY MUSIC!!!
HELL YEAH the hoss is boss we need music like this so some of these pussy singer complaning about there boyfriends and girl friends there is no country in country music and it's gay

You got that right!! And tell ya what when a radio station (or whoever) pulls that crap of fill in the blank is the "next Waylon" they're making sure I won't be listening to that artist. There will NEVER be another Waylon!!

He does look a little on the pasty white side of a possible bender with the dope and booze in this, but im not judging, ive been there myself, why did he not get ven half the grace Elvis and MJ got after death?Couldnt they call him the king of country or southern rock?I get bored with Elvis after two songs,Waylon i can watch all day long!
Waylon does not need any nods accolades or silly nicknames, he's Waylon, that's enough ... apreciate the comment though... I pray that he will never be commercialised ad nauseam like so many were ,the best kept secret in US music let's keep it that way...RIP Hoss
Rose In Paradise,Wild One's. And from the WAylon Live cd,Lovin' Her Was Easier Then Anything I've Ever Done Before. That was alot of one finger typing
Thanks, apreciate it ! I made plenty of Waylon custom cdsof my own... ain't nothing better than driving down the road tapping your wheel to that pounding half time beat ... apreciate the comments...
The songs were Honky Tonk Heroes, Rainy Day Woman, Memories Of You And I. The next 3 were from the Waylon Live cd Lonesome OR'ry And Mean,Never Been To Spain and This Time. Then Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way,Waymore's Blues,I've Been A Long Time Leaving And I'll Be A Long Time Gone,Dreaming My Dreams Of You,I've Always Been Crazy,Dixie,Hold On,Rough And Rowdy Days,Clyde,Lucille,Are you Ready For The Country,Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit Done Got Of Hand,Looking For Suzanne,The Eagle
Great video. I saw Waylon in concerts in the 70"s & 80"s and with the Highwaymen in 1990. I saw him for the last time in 1992 at a county fair.I heard Waylon for the first time on the radio singing Rainy Day Woman i wanted to buy the single but could only find it on the album Rambin' Man.When i played the album i became a Waylon fan forever.I sold a truck to a guy and gave him a cd i had made of Waylon ,four years later he told me thats the only cd he plays since he bought the truck.R.I.P Hoss
I hate it that Waylon had a drug problem. It robbed him of a lot of precious time with loved ones, being strung out. Stevie Ray Vaughan, another hero of mine, had the same battle. I think in both cases, they feared not having that creative edge without the dope. Talent wins through in the end. May they both rest in peace.
It was part of who he was and helped shape the person he would become. And as much as anything it's how things were back then. It's probably safe to say a good number of those (of us) who went to his shows were wasted too. Nothing to regret. It's just how it was.
Love this song, waylon was one of the greats. This was the first song I ever played in public (at an open mic) and the first song I uploaded to youtube. We miss you waylon...
You have to struggle in life to make music like this. This is the music of hard livin' people!!!

Thanks for this way cool video Pat!

My regret is that I only saw him once, and for that experience, I am grateful. There is Waylon, and then there's everyone else.
