  • @tommyandvinny Awesome ! :-)

  • Waylon had many amazing big hits!

This is one of them. He could really also play guitar. He had is style and his tune. Easy to hear thats WAYLON !

  • i love him, but does he look a tad waxy in this video?

  • Watasha was the man and will always be the man. To Waylon, Bob Wills is still the king. To me, Waylon you are the king! He was an outlaw to the day he died. True legend, enough said.

  • What is the name of the instrument used at 1:24?

  • @pivo1981 ive always known it as a Steel Guitar..not sure if theres a more technical name

  • @BtokN Thanks!

  • @pivo1981

Sho-Bud steel guitar and Mooney was the best there ever was...Lloyd Maines can whip the hair off of one too! Check Lloyd out in some of Joe Ely's live stuff.

  • This is by far the BEST version I have heard of this awesome song. I hope that the music from this show is released on MP3 format.

  • im 16 years old and i am obsessed with waylon jennnings1 my whole room is decorated with waylon stuff, posters, and i even painted a 4 ft flying w on my wall! thanks for posting

  • @waylonjennings4 thank god some young people know what flyin w means im proud

  • @waylonjennings4 Keep it up young man!! We need real men to lead this country into the future and if you're a Waylon fan, you must be a real man.

  • @waylonjennings4 i feel you there man im 19 and iu got the Waylon bird tattooed on my right arm

  • @jmorejennings I'm 35 and I have it too... ;-)

  • @waylonjennings4 Good for you... I was 7 when I heard him...in 1968..Aint stopped listnen yet..

  • I am so glad my dad introduced me to this type of music. I can't name a time something happened that waylon or some type of old country song was playing. I was in the secretary of state today and I heard this girl say what is in Nahville. I was like people just don't know anything about country music today

  • OL WAYLON seemed like a very nice funny genuine man but he did'nt seem like the type you wanted to try to get over i bet he could rowdy in a heartbeat.I am greatful we got to have all he gave us but i sure wish he was still around.I have never heard anyone with the range variety of music and pure talent HOSS had and don't figure on ever seeing anyone come close.

  • best song i ever heard, if i could i would have married this man

  • Shon Hampton covers this song the best I've herd voice wise

  • what can one say that haddent been said but 1 GIFTED ORIGINAL his music is TIMELESS WAYLON LIVES ON

  • Greatest country artist of all time...and as I've posted many times...if Buddy hadn't died in that plane he would have become a BIG star much sooner. Buddy was his close friend, mentor and biggest supporter and would have recorded him right!!

  • @inquiry7 well, as far as him being the greatest country artist of all time, I agree with you 100%, but Chet Atkins produced some bitchin tracks for him too... just check out his pre-outlaw period, it is killer too... check out Mental Revenge, Stop The World and Let Me Off, Nashville Rebel, etc. the list is endless. Actually the whole first "The Journey" boxed set . The second one is awesome too, but it's his transition to his so called Outlaw phase.

  • @pat976 Chet Atkins is a giant but Buddy was his friend not his A&R man/producer. Plus I'm sure Buddy would have played on the tracks himself instead of the studio musicians Chet used. Buddy was producing himself by the end so Waylon wouldn't have needed Chet and Nashville Studio B.

  • @inquiry7 Agreed, but the Nashville system at the time was such that you had to use their musicians in the studio... I get what you're saying, he probably would not have recorded in Nashville with Buddy somewhere's else, who knows ?

  • @pat976 Don't mean to fight at all. We both dig Waylon!!! That's what counts!!!!!

  • @inquiry7 ditto ! We're just talking music history ! Waylon's the greatest !

  • This has to be one of my favorite Waylon songs.... written by Steve Young. Interestingly enough, Steve Young's son has that Waylon sounds. Genuine, Soulful, Dylan-esque Voice!

  • Waylon was extremely underrated as a guitar player! And of course the GREAT Ralph Mooney on steel!

  • Waylon is the man.....and the man as high as shit in this video

  • sing it hoss! we wont ever forget you

  • Im Onry and mean

  • Role model.

  • He wasn't about country music he was more than that. It was about the music he played and the songs he sang. He put a signiture on his music you could idenify him with. He didn't sound like nobody else but Waylon. He was original and he was my hero. Thanx

  • @Lessar77 perfectly put !!!!!!

  • @Lessar77 amen brother

  • @Lessar77 Played his music and I think he played because he loved to play and didn't really care if we loved him or not, Miss you Waylon but still listening to your music.

  • Waylon pattterned his guitar after Ralph Mooneys steel, then got him to join his band. I do this song in Karoke, sometimes very well. One of his best. He left a stanza out of this one.

  • i had the pleasure of meating ole waylon one time by accident. in a taco bell in houston town back in 88. i was riding the rails hauling coal southbound to san antonio. and he was doing a show with willie at the astro dome. whats funny is they were more interested in my job. lol and i was in star struck.

  • wow ! cool story ...

  • thanks for the great reply. its nice to hear a good reply from friends instead of some kid cussing us all the time. lol yea it was a great pleasure meeting two legends in one place. they like to joke and cut up all the time. i asked waylon what was his biggest complaint about singing with willie. he laughed and said willie didnt have any damn rythm. lol and willie said *$&%&#. well you can guess. it was hilarious. godbless.

  • Thank you for sharing this with us. Really great story.

  • @39tommyboy that is awesome! waylon... the coolest mutha to ever walk the earth!

  • @39tommyboy well its their job to emulate people like you. there is nothing more american than riding the rails southbound.

  • Rock on Waylon!

  • Waylon was one of a kind. What a guitar player. No one played the style that he did, like he did. No one will fill his shoes. He was too cool for Nashville, and told him to blow ha ha.

  • Ya'll got it right......the crap that passes for country music these days just blows my mind. The artists these days that are winning Grammy's and being shoved down our throats by popular radio are a bunch of auto-tuned pop stars claiming to be country because they sing with a fake "twang". Whats even worse are the posers claiming to be outlaws. Waylon didn't claim to be an outlaw, he was playing what he felt, and the country scene gave him and others like him the title of "outlaw country".

  • amen ,brother...

  • He would roll over in his grave to know how the so called country music is this day in age. And his boy is so very talented and dont get recognized. RIP Waylon AND live on Shooter and spread the dream of REAL COUNTRY MUSIC!!!

  • This shit sends a chill down my spine!!!!!

  • Yeah! Another good 'un!

    Thanx man!

    ....Sam

  • HELL YEAH the hoss is boss we need music like this so some of these pussy singer complaning about there boyfriends and girl friends there is no country in country music and it's gay

  • Waylon is the model of bad ass out law. Plain and simple, he won't ever be touched in music or status.

He just bluntly kicked ass period!

  • you got that right!!!

  • Waylon was and always will be the SHIT!

  • Ol' Waylon sure as hell was hittin it hard back in those days. Damn good song though.

  • It speaks volumes that he steps back with the other musicians rather than standing out in front of them while they solo. Very professional.

  • This is great! I prefer this live version over the album.

  • Great song written by Steve Young!!! (Steve's son, Jubal Lee Young reminds me a lot of Waylon)

  • Awesome Awesome performance!! LOVE Waylon Jennings!!! **********

  • this is great thanks for posting brilliant

  • thanks for the video...so good to see vintage stuff like this of such a high quality...waylon rocks!

  • i've been listening to this song for a awhile and it never even crossed my mind to find that out

  • What does "on'ry" mean?

  • stands for ornery :

    1. ugly and unpleasant in disposition or temper: No one can get along with my ornery cousin.

    2. stubborn: I can't do a thing with that ornery mule.

    3. low or vile.

    4. inferior or common; ordinary.

  • Ordinary

  • It's an old school term that means- hard to get along with.

  • @ksufler onry its southern slang for being stubborn and basically a hard ass to work with. lol the reason why i laughed is i am from oklahoma and i went to alaska one time to visit my sister and her husband in the military. and i called information to get a number and the operator said waite a minute sir where are you from. lol i said oklahoma why? she said you have the most beautifull southern accent ive ever heard. i said back to her what accent. ???????? lol godbless

  • This is Waylon at his best! My favorite Waylon tune of the them all. The one that defined the era! Love it.

  • whow !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • waylon could take someone elses song and make it his own and ten times better, he had a sound like no one els and thank god he put that sound in country so we still have people like montgomery gentry and jamie johnson

  • I guess it's pointless to compare Waylon to anybody...

  • You got that right!! And tell ya what when a radio station (or whoever) pulls that crap of fill in the blank is the "next Waylon" they're making sure I won't be listening to that artist. There will NEVER be another Waylon!!

  • he still didnt get near the recognition MJ is right now,and the blacks are STILL bitching about"you didnt do elvis that way,or JFK," PFFF maybe because jfk and elvis didnt sleep with little boys?hmm?any opportuntiy to pull thier favorite card they club thier way through life with. But thats just my opinion.

  • you make an excellent point he doesnt need that nickname garbage. His name is synonomous with cool

  • exactly...

  • He does look a little on the pasty white side of a possible bender with the dope and booze in this, but im not judging, ive been there myself, why did he not get ven half the grace Elvis and MJ got after death?Couldnt they call him the king of country or southern rock?I get bored with Elvis after two songs,Waylon i can watch all day long!

  • Waylon does not need any nods accolades or silly nicknames, he's Waylon, that's enough ... apreciate the comment though... I pray that he will never be commercialised ad nauseam like so many were ,the best kept secret in US music let's keep it that way...RIP Hoss

  • Rose In Paradise,Wild One's. And from the WAylon Live cd,Lovin' Her Was Easier Then Anything I've Ever Done Before. That was alot of one finger typing

  • Thanks, apreciate it ! I made plenty of Waylon custom cdsof my own... ain't nothing better than driving down the road tapping your wheel to that pounding half time beat ... apreciate the comments...

  • The songs were Honky Tonk Heroes, Rainy Day Woman, Memories Of You And I. The next 3 were from the Waylon Live cd Lonesome OR'ry And Mean,Never Been To Spain and This Time. Then Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way,Waymore's Blues,I've Been A Long Time Leaving And I'll Be A Long Time Gone,Dreaming My Dreams Of You,I've Always Been Crazy,Dixie,Hold On,Rough And Rowdy Days,Clyde,Lucille,Are you Ready For The Country,Don't You Think This Outlaw Bit Done Got Of Hand,Looking For Suzanne,The Eagle

  • Great video. I saw Waylon in concerts in the 70"s & 80"s and with the Highwaymen in 1990. I saw him for the last time in 1992 at a county fair.I heard Waylon for the first time on the radio singing Rainy Day Woman i wanted to buy the single but could only find it on the album Rambin' Man.When i played the album i became a Waylon fan forever.I sold a truck to a guy and gave him a cd i had made of Waylon ,four years later he told me thats the only cd he plays since he bought the truck.R.I.P Hoss

  • Great testimony ,thanks. Do you remember the track list of your cd ?

  • ain't nobody done it like waylon! fucker rules!

  • Separates the men from the boys.

  • This is gospel music!

  • Man's Man!

  • looks like ol waylon might have been up for a day or two! love it , great video

  • I hate it that Waylon had a drug problem. It robbed him of a lot of precious time with loved ones, being strung out. Stevie Ray Vaughan, another hero of mine, had the same battle. I think in both cases, they feared not having that creative edge without the dope. Talent wins through in the end. May they both rest in peace.

  • It was part of who he was and helped shape the person he would become. And as much as anything it's how things were back then. It's probably safe to say a good number of those (of us) who went to his shows were wasted too. Nothing to regret. It's just how it was.

Thanks for this way cool video Pat!

  • Boy;Waylon sure showed them how it's done.Thanks.

  • :24 wtf lol

  • Maaaaan, that is some kinda sound comin' from that tele! Not to mention the sound comin' from the man himself!

    Thanks for posting.

  • No kidding, I've never heard anybody make a guitar sound like that. It had a certain pop to the rhythm.

  • Man I miss that son of a bitch...god bless ya hoss.

  • pick that damn guitar son woooooooooooo

  • Completely badass. My biggest regret is I never had an opportunity to see him in concert. Thank God for these videos!!

  • You're welcome ! I too will forever regret never seeing him live... Saw & met Shooter tho... not the same, but pretty cool in itself...

  • My regret is that I only saw him once, and for that experience, I am grateful. There is Waylon, and then there's everyone else.

  • Consider yourself lucky, he died in 02 and i was 16 at the time, i never got to see em. My regret was i never got to :/

  • Best guitar combination in the universe Waylon and Ralph Mooney Mr Albright don't miss a beat either Priceless never be another not even close

  • First "Outlaw" tune recorded. This tune changed it all.... THX for posting!!

  • Waylon was and still is no doubt THE MAN!!! He was in his prime on this video. Thanks for posting it.

  • Love this song, waylon was one of the greats. This was the first song I ever played in public (at an open mic) and the first song I uploaded to youtube. We miss you waylon...
