  • this is soo annoying to listen to with in 1 ear :( its been 4 parts and I haven't LEARN ANYTHING!

  • If anyone wants to hear a GREAT cover of "White Rabbit", check out the version by Grace Potter & the Nocturnals. I can't hear this song anymore, however, without thinking of Benicio Del Toro in "Fear & Loathing" .... "WHITE RABBITTTTT!!!!!"

  • OMG!This is more than we've ever seen from the Pow RToch sequence and they talk through it than stick Waters on there! :P

  • she is my dream girl

  • katie perry looks like gracie slick..only difference is grace was talented and katy is just a cute face with great jugs..but little talent

  • Omg it's STD!!!! Sorry that's my phone's auto corrector. I mention to say syd

  • Yes, Grace, and it turned out that since cocaine and opium were legal and widely used when those stories were written, they likely had direct refference!

  • what is the sont that floyd plays first ith the p p chee chee

  • @9Iamthewalrus Pow R. Toc H.

  • Around 1:57 in this video, it's kind of a cool switch from the White Rabbit video changing to the Radio London promo. White Rabbit is then played at a slightly faster speed with less clarity, but with the radio wave images it makes it pretty cool.

    I don't know. Just something I noticed.

  • Fuck yeah! I've been watching this whole 'History of Psychedlic Rock' thing. All of these bands are awesome but I've been itching for them to get to Pink Floyd. As Peter Jenner kind of pointed out; the English pychedelic scene was the real 'psychedelic', and Pink Floyd were the ones who really shot that off.

  • My God, Grace Slick is a joke. People took LSD to open "the doors of perception", to transcend the society in which we live, based on materialism, capitalism, competition, consumerism, exploitation, oppression, repression, aliention, etc... and expand their spirituality and consciousness, not to say to their parents "I take drugs and I'm naughty because you got me to read Alice In Wonderland as a kid! It's all your fault! I hate you, I hate you!". How pathetic

  • @kidcalabria I think you missed something

  • @OrangeSunshine2

    And what would that be?

  • @kidcalabria Really don't think that's the point she was trying to make.

  • @kidcalabria That's so far from what she means. What she's saying is that she was amused because authority figures would tell them to stay away from these things, while the childhood stories they were read expressed these strong images and themes that in one way or another, related to drugs. You think she took drugs to piss mommy and daddy off? That's hardly the whole reason. If you listened to the Airplane, you would know that.

  • @kidcalabria Back in the 60s the lyrics had a stronger meaning, there were drugs of course, but I think there are more drugs now and all the social trouble associated with them... I think teenagers have to be orientated what really drugs are, remember they are prone to "try" new things...but if these drugs catch them, they will be lost...

  • The Doors were the best of all!

  • Roger Waters seems like an arrogant prick.

  • Jefferson Airplane..Grace Slick

  • @moonzel she amazes me..

  • where are the moody blues?

  • The Moody Blues ARE missing here, but not for no reason. They were an odd "middle-ground" band that did psychedelic, blues, progressive... Not a good example of a purer psychedelic music form.

Another example, the Rolling Stones did "2000 light years from home" which is very psycho-d, but they're not primarily a psycho-d band.

Beatles were included earlier because of their influence was overwhelming at the time. When they began playing psycho-d, everyone paid attention.

  • grace slick was pretty hot in the 60's

  • yeah, she was a model before the airplane.

  • She just sings with powerful voice and self-determination.

In comparison with modern pop shows, she does nothing more than standing and sing. No lingerie or sexy movements at all. But anyway, she shines with more light than thousands Spears or Madonnas.

  • @KronprinzAdam Proving that a stare can be more sexy than all the pelvic pumping and crotch grabbing, antics combined.

  • @conormori hell ya

  • Man, the lead vocalist of J airplane was fine

  • She was indeed.

  • hell yeahh

  • This DJ guy (mid-vid here)-wants to act like he brought the music to London in '67= huh? and then some band in London is acting like they sent 'psychedelic music to the USA? rite... oh well the rest of this has really cool bits. And I did nothing to add to this info, I made zero videos, so I will shut up now!

  • He did, as a matter of fact.

  • J.Airplane rules

  • Pink Floyd is the first true pyschedelic band! Just amazing stuff.

This doc makes it seem like Pink Floyd grew out of the American bands though... which wasn't the case at all as they were doing the same kind of "dance concerts" as the Grateful Dead at the exact same time, 1965.

  • Nope, Pink Floyd was not the first psych band.

  • no man there first couple albums were really good but they werent the first

  • If you go by album release dates then you can say that, but Pink Floyd was part of the Britsih pyschedelic underground in 1965-1966 which had some of the first psych bands including Pink Floyd. Obviously they weren't the first pysch band, but IMO they were the first great one since they completely went against typical rock'n'roll musical structures. You can say The 13th Floor Elevators had the first pysch album, but Pink Floyd was playing stuff at the same time which was way more out there.

  • Pink Floyd is not the first pyshedelic band, but they are the best.

  • The Doors!!! The DOORS!!! Haha.

    Big Floyd fan, too, though

  • Comment removed

  • yes man i totally agree with you not the beginers but the greatest...

  • nope

  • White Rabbit

  • Roger waters and the Floyd are my heroes!

  • does anyone knows ,what's the first song's name?

  • White Rabbit by Jefferson Airplane

  • actually the doors were a great band with amazing musicians and one of the most influential front men in history. they were really dark compared to bands of the time. they couldnt be sellouts. they stood true to what they wanted and thats all you can ask from a musican. if it is what they want to do thats all that matters pink floyd is awesome! and psychedelic rock is the greatest music ever!!! AND THE BEAUTY OF IT IS THAT NO 2 PSYCHEDELIC BANDS ARE THE SAME!!

  • AMEN!

Psychedelic Rock is not comparable to Reggae (for take a example), a style characterized by determinated patrons..

PSYCH-ROCK NOT HAVE DEFINITED PATRONS: A BIT OF BLUES, FOLK, ELECTRONICA, RAGAS, AVANT-GARDE, PURE WEIRDNESS...

I Think is like the Grunge scene in the 90's: NIRVANA SOUND LIKE RANCID PUNK ROCK, IN CONTRAST TO PEARL JAM IS FOLK IN A 'NEIL YOUNG' WAY.. BOTH ARE CONSIDERATED "GRUNGE".

  • well i would say that its more like a white canvas most other genres are to confined and limited. psychedelic rock is open to anyting its a mood and a feeling not really a sound

  • I love Grace :D

  • I was waiting for The Pink Floyd to appear in this documentary! Their work is still some of the most psychedelic I have ever heard in my life!

  • i meant the byrds below. *They were from Los Angeles, as well as many other bands cited*.

  • The reason they didn't mention the Doors was likely because this is about the San Francisco scene. The Doors, for all their psychedlic stuff, were a band from Los Angeles and thus left out.

  • the doors were from los angeles, as well as many other bands cited. i think it's probably because the doors are sort of a blemish in the history books for fans of true psych. I mean they were easily the cheesiest band around at the time--total cash-ins.

  • i wasnt around for the time. but i dnt think thats true, not from what iv read and heard.could be wrong tho ...

  • Most of the bands cited were performing shows regularly by 1965, whereas the doors didn't play their first show until 66. Their album was heavily heavily marketed, they were the first band to have a billboard on the sunset strip for god's sake.

That doesn't negate their influence, though, they definitely played a part. Most psych rock fans think they over-did it a bit and they definitely fell victim to the narcosis of the spotlight--Jim Morrison is definitely not very highly regarded.

  • dude how can u say they are only in it for the money they are one of the greatest band not of psych. music but of all kind they just wanted to make true real music just like othe 60s bands

  • Cash In? the sold gold albums all the way to the end and are still talked about today, they pushed all the limits and sound as fresh today as in 67

  • wtf. I don't see why these people never put the doors or jim morrison in this documentry! they were one of the greatest physedelic rock groups ever...what a pity.

  • the airplane___best fucking band ever =)

  • Psychedelic Rock, this came to the top of the list. I can feel it in my mind
