I love playing Rock Band and Guitar Hero and games like that because it's a nice break from an actual intrument and it's fun to play with friends and family because they may not play an instrument. It's all for fun! Plus, it turns people onto some cool music! I wouldn't have found out about a lot of music I like if it weren't for games like this. I think it was really awesome that Rush gave Tom Sawyer a shot on the game! Radical! :D

People are being too hard on Rock Band. It's not meant to replace real instruments, it's about having fun. Sure, when people think they're actual musicians because they're good at Rock Band, then there's a problem, but that's not the game's fault. Learning an instrument is damn hard, frustrating and time-consuming, and not everyone can commit. That's what Rock Band is for, so everyone calm your tits.

Kept expecting Neil to break the stupid POS. I've played it, you have to be slightly ahead of time for it register, which means you're learning to play incorrectly. If you try hanging of the back of the beat 'in the pocket' you fail quickly. It's pretty worthless.

I also agree video games have created a generation of kids with a hugely inflated sense of confidence that is 100% unfounded in reality.

Exactly. On a real guitar, you can keep the lower (note) frets depressed while you play higher notes, but on guitar hero, that counts against you. Same muscles & coordination, but a different mindset. These guys were good sports to give it a try.

I actually find that people who play keyboard instruments (such as myself) have the easiest time picking up guitar in rock band/guitar hero, since it basically functions as a simple keyboard with a strum bar. And the people who play guitar seem to have an unusually hard time picking it up because it seems so counter-intuitive.

He's always been like that, throughout his whole career. You never see him smile much, unless something funny happens, such as a chicken walking onto the stage during Spirit of Radio, or pirates having a sword fight during 2112...of course, he did goof off right after songs in the Snakes and Arrows DVD (after Secret Touch and Spindrift and Passage to Bangkok, for example). Neil's emotion comes out more when he writes about drumming, or when he's talking about it.
