I Wanna Rule The World - 10cc [Stockport, England] - 1976 - "...the band (unbeknownst to their audience) commenced the split which would become painfully public in late 1976. ...the funniest song on the album by far, and one of the most inventive. ...with a Zappa-ed out Munchkin hell... - Original Soundtrack/ How Dare You! [Import UK] (Universal International)-2009.
NOTE: NOTE: It's almost a bizarre Rock Opera with Geo-political "World Bully" written all over it.
can't say i'v ever heard this one ........it's not something i would have bought.although i love 10cc the stuff that came after this was awesome music .
@Stratman, also check out Godley & Creme's first album after the departure from 10cc. It's pretty weird but also very cool and far ahead of their time. They made it to promote their Gizmo and is titled Consequences. It was originally released as a boxed set triple album and was also a theme album about the end of the world. They collaborated with comedian Peter Cook who wrote a story and also does some ove the characters in the story. There's also more instrumental tracks than usual.
OMG! I just discovered this song today! WOW! I only know 10CC for doing "I'm Not in Love" and "The Things We Do For Love." But this song has now got me hooked and interested! I love it! Straight into my favourites.
Because of this song, 10CC will be the next band I will be venturing into.
@Stratman78 You have a great adventure ahead :) Art for Art's Sake, I'm Mandy Fly me, Feel the Benefit, Rubber Bullets, Dreadlock Holiday.... the list goes on.
@jackthehatuk@scouserfourteen and @loathing138 Just picked up 'The Complete UK Recordings' that has the first two 10cc albums on 2 CD's including all their singles. From their first album, I like "Rubber Bullets," "Headline Hustler," "Speed Kills," and "Ships Don't Disappear in the Night (Do They?)." On 'Sheet Music,' I like how they go from "The Worst Band in the World" to "Clockwork Creep." What a transistion! The single "Gismo My Way" is fantastic!
@Stratman78 I only knew 10cc for Dreadlock Holiday and decided to look up some of their other stuff. Wow! What shock! They are fantastic, but I expected to be entirely different.
I agree, 'How Dare You' is a totally underrated masterpiece. Like Spirit's '12 Dreams' it is a feast of different directions, all beautifully woven in a concept album format...and the reason they are compared to The Beatles at all, is that very few bands were that creative in a variety of directions. Love 10cc. Love The Beatles.
Man - This Song Take's Me Way Back To 15 - 16 Yr's Old and I Love It Then And I Still Do ToDay ...(^_^(?... How I Wish I Can See Them Play This Song Live Now - Boy Yes - Need I Say More ?
This band did have a sense of humor: I Wanna Rule The World - 10cc [Stockport, England] - 1976 - "...the band (unbeknownst to their audience) commenced the split which would become painfully public in late 1976. ...the funniest song on the album by far, and one of the most inventive. ...with a Zappa-ed out Munchkin hell..." - How Dare You!
I had the opportunity to see these boys in the late 70's. This was the finest of 500+ concerts I've seen in my lifetime exceeding Pink Floyd, Bowie, Queen, Santana, Edgar & Johnny Winters together, Rod Stewart and the Faces - all at their peak. I often wondered if it had anything to do with the LSD25 we shared with their roadies prior to the show. They were backed up by Garfield, a phenomenal band. Check out their classic 'Eyes'.
God I love this band, they're one of my favorites, I completely respect them, the talent in the band is virtually unparalleled... but Kevin Godley just ALWAYS looks like he's stoned out of his gourd =) and I mean that in the nicest possible way...
@megaladon73 i also love this band, did you know that kev is colour blind, so hence the odd eyes, great band checkmout all there other works, many thanks g
Dated? They sound like They Might Be Giants 10 years before they ever were! And TMBG are still around and still sound like this at times. You could put sections of this song on Malcolm in the Middle episodes and not be able to tell the difference.
Just so ahead of there time. What an amazing band. God wouldn't it be so unreal to hear some1 now write something interesting with amazing chord changes & off timing structures to make todays music that wee bit more interesting for all the young up & coming muso's to have something to give us???
Believe it or not, this is the song that got me interested in 10cc. Very creative, entertaining, and unusual. The speech, the speeded up voice, etc. Funny too. "Everyones going to be free, but they'll have to agree to be free....".
I loved how 10cc couple incorporate SO many different styles into one 3:00 song. "How Dare You" definately had it's share of experimentations. Just listen to this and "Iceberg". How do you even begin to write songs like these? It's my fave 10cc LP though.
I agree - but there were still a few good songs in their twilight years - for both group's. But atthe same time - late seventies/ early eighties was such a time of change for music - maybe the writing was on the wall anyways.
Just looked at your home page Magnolia and noticed that you have no favourites. I love looking at other peoples musical tastes and sometime pinching their favourites :-)

When it "comes" to their name your a bit off, the average amount is 9cc's, they
wanted to boast off their masculinity so added an extra 1cc to the total amount,
hence 10cc. One of their first songs was "Neanderthal man", just saying!.
