Randy Rhoads quoted that he thought George was a better player than Eddie Van Halen. This was said when Randy was still with Quiet Riot doing the LA club scene.
To an extent I understand why Ozzy chose Randy over George the first time he auditioned, because the two had instant chemistry. The second time George got in, for all of three days, before Ozzy changed his mind and went with Jake. He went on the road for two weeks, but never got to play.
In an interview Jake said that Ozzy stopped him from playing blues. George is a blues player, and that may have been the reason he wasn't chosen.
@royer808 Don't know why, honestly. Although there's a province of Argentina, in the southern end of the american continent, that's called "Tierra del Fuego" (which means: "land of fire"). Maybe he got inspired in some way by that name, but I'm not really sure. Never seen an interview with George Lynch confirming this in any way.
@yurivarbanov Eh. I love Lynch but I don't think Ozzy not picking him as his lead guitarist had much of an impact on his success. Every guitarist Ozzy ever had is a legend. The fact that he didn't pick George had absolutely nothing to do with Ozzy's respect for his talent as a guitarist and everything to do with whose style most closely jibed with the kind of sound he was going for. I'd say Ozzy probably made the right call.
This is the track Derryl Gabel guests on I believe. Does anyone know which part he plays? Is it the classical bits? Either way - amazing track! Thanks for the upload.
This is one of my favorite from George Lynch. First of all he is ABSOLUTELY HOT and the groove to the music sends me to dream world wishing he was in front of me playing this tune! Ok back to reality, you have to admit the man has amazing talent. Thanks for the post!
I saw George live a couple of times and if he cannot play it live, he won't record it in the studio. He is the BEST, his style, timing speed, and not to mention talent, are not seen today in many others. Long Live "King" George.
@kristi62372 I´m from Argentina and from Tierra del Fuego. Actually I live here for almost 9 years. George made this amazing music with his fire soul...
George is the man! He's not one of those ridiculous modern-day sweep-everything guitarists, he's got a soul and style. Not only that, he can write one hell of a melody one after another (Mr. Scary, I Will Remember, Love Power from the Mama Head).
great song, this song just has so much class, nice, george is definately one of the best from the 80s, his lynch mob band was awesome, i think tangled in the web is one of the best songs of all time,
Derryl's solo is from 3:18 TO 3:35. I have a copy that actually has 4 seperate solo's which went in order Lynch, Derryl, Lynch, Derryl but I guess they decided Lynch should end the solo section. Got that copy from Derryl a long time ago
It's not entirely George - this song is where Derryl Gabel made his debut after winning a contest in 1992 that was hosted by Guitar for the Practicing Musician magazine.
I'm pretty sure of 3:18 to around 3:34, probably some of the harmonies, and possibly part of the outro solo but I will admit - while I am sure Derryl is on there, I'm not exactly sure where :)
It only is if you think it is. You have your own talent and your own identity. You can be just as fabulous, if not more, just by NOT emulating him or anyone else.
actually its not in this version...damn....the lick im reffering to comes right after lynchs in the "end" of the solo at 3:54...the lick was the shit!!!especially back than..derryl shreds
Some may not know the background about this song but this was actually played with a contest winner. (see below) "Tierra Del Fuego" is significant because it features major shred, as Lynch jams with Long Beach guitar monster Derryl Gabel, who won a contest to jam with Lynch on this track. "I Will Remember" offers a soulful, almost neo-classical groove, while "Love Power From the Power Head" is an explosive track in the Joe Satriani and Tony MacAlpine vein.
@invictuswheels so many many retards on youtube say that about certain players i have come to the conclusion they have no idea what there talking about
Coming from one, it does have a nice latin melody and groove. Yes, more proof that Lynch is one of the heirarchy of guitar gods. I got to get thei cd, anyone no where? I didn't see it at his website?

George can ve described with only one word - GOD!Ozzy made a huge mistake when he didn`t pick him as part of his band...
yurivarbanov 7 months ago
@yurivarbanov
Technically - probably.
But I doubt that two such personalities would ever go together. They would probably destroy at least as many things as they create.
BallyS16 6 months ago
@BallyS16 You may have a point...But either way such colaboration would be times better than picking Jake E.Lee or Zack Wylde! ;)

Sounds like Lynch I think. The speed picking, tapping and the legato I may be wrong though.
SevenCircles 2 years ago
It's the only part that doesn't emply the usual Lynch-isms...that, and the attack/tone changes which makes me think it's Derryl.
It's hard to really seperate them but he's 100% on there - clearly did a great job of blending styles :)
