  • Tell me all about it! - Rawk..rawk..rawk!

  • Nice recording! Bet it was fun! This Raven (crows, rooks & magpies, too) can not only remember you and your looks and that you are not harmful, but can pass this info onto others. I'd say you have a good reputation with them.

  • @magicksquirrel Guess what! Rooks that I frequently feed can tell me by my jacket and would follow me through the park :)

  • That was such a fun exchange with your raven friend!!

  • Fascinating bird!

  • I'd like to meet a raven face-to-face some day. It would probably be a surreal and magical moment. <8'D

  • I've noticed several ravens who are being taught to speak get the word "say" in there too because that's what the human is saying. Just say the word and don't give the command to "say" or they will learn that part too. It sounds pretty silly when they do.

  • It may look like shes making the raven talk, but its the other way round. Raven macking on this lady like a boss.

  • Clearly, the bird is saying, "So are you gonna feed me, or what?!"

    Very entertaining video. Thanks.

  • The raven is thinking... "I wonder if I could get this ape to speak raven... lets give it a go!" ;)

  • how fucking interesting! come closer and tell me more!

  • If man kind ever discovers the secrets to creating a time machine to go back to the beginning of the world, likened to when we sent a monkey as the first in space may I suggest we send a raven or two first.

  • And still the raven remains in my room

No matter how much I implore

    No words can soothe him

    No prayer remove him

And I must hear for evermore

    Quoth the raven, nevermore

    Thus quoth the raven

    Nevermore

  • Beautiful. "But the raven still beguiling all my sad soul into smiling."

  • thats a rather brave bird to just sit there. let alone not fly away as someone approaches it.

  • @markdembek - it was pretty amazing. I think this bird was used to people feding it in a local state park.

  • nevermore

  • Birds are the most wonderful creatures God put on this earth. They're smart and beautiful!!

Parents, don't be like my dumb father and buy your sons a bb gun because they'll more than likely shoot birds for "the fun of it."

Buy your kids cameras and/or art supplies ... and tell them to cherish these creatures by studying them and reading up on them.

God did not put these wonderful animals on the planet to be used as targets (as my stupid dad thought)!

  • @guyNbluejeans KILL THE PIGEONS!!!

  • @CCMrJones During WW1 and 2, pigeons served well. Pigeons, like other critters, bring joy to people's hearts.

  • Don't you just want to give it snuggles.

    Who is Nevermore?

  • @verticalsmurf - Nevermore was a raven I used to have :)

  • patience and he will say it-sure !thx

  • He might respond better if you offer him a treat?!

  • description says it's wild, I doubt that would work.

  • @Tum0spoo - it was wild. It flew off and simply hangs out with people at the state park occasionally.....

  • Nice and cool video. I love ravens aswell myself. They are wonderful creatures. I allways wanted a pet raven and maybe a buddy for it aswell, but i cant think of how i am supposed to get hold of one. Its not like they sell ravens in stores.. U spoke of ur "old raven, Nevermore", did u have one as a pet?

  • BrandgulFana, the only ravens that are legal to own in the USA in certain states are the African Ravens (white-necked). One must have a permit to own them and must buy them from a breeder who will certify each bird prior to purchase. Nevermore was a rescue bird I raised from a baby when I worked with a wildlife rescue team. She was with me from 1998-2001 when she went free.

  • Just a note: I ran into this raven again the other day and it said "HELLO" to me again from the top of a tree. I really NOW wonder, could this be NEVERMORE? Because it sure SOUNDS like her. . .the way SHE used to say HELLO to me. . .**sigh** I didn't video tape it again because she was so far away; (MORE)

  • (CONTINUED): there had been a huge raven fight where a group of ravens were trying to chase out ONE PAIR, and this one pair were seeking refuge near a couple who were walking their dogs (they actually started walking behind the couple when the couple started walking away). Nevermore used to live in a place where she'd made friends with the dogs. . .so I cannot help but wonder. The couple, especially the woman, kept shooing the ravens away; I think she was scared. . .

  • You're not so bad on your raven talk either, Feather! Nice to see you're on speaking terms with the locals!

I have had similar conversations with the wild ones, but none so close as this!

  • Thanks, ccoraxfan. . .love the ravens. . . :)

  • Of course you know I do too!

I did hear that "hello" the raven spoke quietly (in the wrong direction!) but it was unmistakable!

The ravens here in Michigan keep getting bolder too... the other day I spotted a pair of them on the snowbank next to the church parkinglot, speaking sweet nothings to each other, a mere snowball toss away from me... not showing any fear at all. Also a raven trying to raid garbage bags in the back of a guy's pickup truck, before the truck even came to a stop!

  • Kind of a sing=song 'hello'. . .kind of surprised me, as my old raven Nevermore used to do that. That's why I said "Nevermore, could it be you?" and then "Doubtful" at one point while shooting the video. Made me wonder. I've been back twice since, and no sign of that interesting raven.. . .

  • You never know! Ravens have very good long-term memory. It could be Nevermore stopped by to say "hello" to you! This raven certainly appeared confident while so close to you.

  • Sure would have been great if it *was* her; sure *sounded* like her :)

  • Sorry, Feather, I just have to comment again, particularly to those new potential FANS who are in the dark (punny) about these birds. You have no appreciation of their size until the film of him flying away. Just enormous. How phenomenal. Sigh. Cas

  • hehe, Cas, you're funny. Actually, our race of Common Raven, AKA the Western Raven, or Corvus corax sinuatus, is actually smaller than the Northern Raven race, Corvus corax principalis. At least, that's according to those 'in the know', such as Bernd Heinrich...but this one was fairly large, about Red-tailed Hawk-sized, at any rate. Hope all's well where you are. . .

  • Hey, Babycakes. Had to watch this one again. Did I send you that Crows link from NPR? Amazing. Anyway, this bird obviously considers you a reject from "Are You Smarter Than A 5th Grader"! "Hello"??? Are you KIDDING me? heehee Hugs, Cas

  • Cas, you ARE a brat. I sent you my number and you didn't call. LOL. Anyway, I am getting ready for church at the moment so I will be in touch. HUGS

  • Feather! This just warms my cockles! Thanks so much for capturing this and also filming him in flight. STILL far and away my favorite birds. How close WERE you? This is just a testament and a confirmation of how wonderfully smart and social these guys are. Send some my way, my friend! Love, Cas

  • LOL....Cas, you should have ravens out your way. . .can't see why not? BUT, I bet if you head on up to Vermont you will see them! LOL

Anyway, I was about three feet away. . .silly raven. :)
