ok, excuse me for ruining the moment, but this is something i can't help but point out. did anyone else notice how cloud was standing in the water when he put her down as if it was shallow, then when it cuts to her sinking he isn't there anymore and the water is suddenly extremely deep?
Wow.... I remember this part... I just shrugged my shoulders and said "Come on Sephie that was my healer you jerk." Oh well..... Now watch as FFVII fanboys swoop down and troll me!
@SacredShadowWolf I recommend playing it, instead of reading the below:
Cloud was injected with JENOVA cells by Hojo, so Sephiroth can control him and make him do his bidding. I don't know why she doesn't say anything, but she just smiled at Cloud because he came for her.
@SacredShadowWolf cloud wasnt trying or even trying to kill her cuz he will never kill her. this game was made from 1997 and of course theres no voice.. this was released in PS1 and the system wasnt even high tech at that time
@Emixsal Well they're just crazy Lol. I love this game so much, I'm not trying to say that its bad or anything, the game is very touching and the music in the background goes so well! I love this game, perfect flawless game 10/10. Although it's mini games were stupid lol. But I'm just saying i never cried. It was sad, but i didn't cry.
I actually watched this specific video before I ever started the game (don't ask why), and then, when I went into the final stage of the temple where you could see the altar but you weren't on it? Remember that spot? I got there and the music started to play, and I knew what was coming all of a sudden. I am a guy, I am not gay, I am not emo, but I swear once I realized what was coming I actually felt something close to (if not exactly), fear. Not quite sadness, but actual fear.
I remember reading somewhere that you can see sephiroths body projected by the light onto the platform aeris is kneeling on...is that true? Bc I can't see it
I'm not sure which is more sad, this scene or the ending where Meryl dies at the end of Metal Gear Solid, I guess the MGS one wasn't canon, but it was still sad. And another thing is that I knew about this happening before I even knew who Aeris was.
@jango5519 it was really sad to people who played the game and really liked her character. Another thing is that people who didn't know she was going to die were just shocked because it was completely unexpected.
I knew what was going to happen to Aerith while playing this game, which was unfortunate to say the least, and I still choked up during this scene. I was okay at first, but when Cloud was putting her in the water, that was too much for me.
This... Was the first final fantasy game I have ever cried. I remember crying at this part so hard. I literally had Arieth everywhere I went, trained her around lvl 50 with the best overdrive.... And even now, after 12 years later and watching this again, I still cry.
I can't belive that IGN choose this moment as the most memorable, i know that is a bit sad, but please, there are more memorable and sad moments better than this, on the other hand, there are sadder deaths in others FF, even Zack's death was sadder

@gamemasterpro99 This, my friend, is - in short - the greatest scene in video-gaming history. And I strongly suggest you stop raging at us: you will annoy a great many people by disrespecting it.
@gamemasterpro99 You don't understand because you don't play the game. Now stop giving disrespectful comments because FF7 was a revolutionary game of its generation.
However old you are, you're clearly not versed enough in video game classics. Don't worry yourself about it: stop watching scenes from old classics, and go and continue playing some Call of Duty bullcrap, or other. I guarantee you will never fully appreciate this, or any other big moment: Aeris' death, Zack's death, the epic battle between Galbadia and Balamb Gardens in FFVIII, the death of Tidus in FFX...
What's ironic is that this game being a so-called "classic" as you say has only caused by far one of the worst strains of fandom ever since, starting WITH this overrated game. I was around as well with this game, read my previous post, but by criticizing whatever he may like, you're only making an ass of yourself when you say THIS scene is "wonderful".
@NewZen41 At what point did I criticise CoD? Or any game, at that?
If you played it, and didn't like it, fine - I have nothing against that, and at least you're forming an opinion based on your experience.
That isn't to say I don't strongly disagree with you - but each to their own.
The reason I responded to the initial comment is that @gamemasterpro99 barged his way onto the comment thread with no prior knowledge, and proceeded to rage mindlessly.
I wasn't agreeing that COD is a wonderful game, it's FAR from even being "original" in the slightest. My gripe is that if this is a very touching moment, when it was virtually 3 flat characters in a usual cliche of a story, it doesn't surprise me that COD is a game that's as loved as it is, because sad to say, 7 is overrated.
@NewZen41 I agree that, at this point in the game, characters hadn't been developed hugely: it was only the end of disk 1! But what made Aeris' death so powerful was the ROLE she had played in Cloud's story. She was a likeable character, and her storyline integrated her quite securely into the group.
Also, I disagree when you say it's "cliche:" it may be cliche now, but character death has become such a focal point in storylines for games, by that argument it's hard to find a story that ISN'T.
And you said earlier on that you've played and beaten the game: when was that?
Serious question: I find it hard to believe that anyone could call it "just another FF game" at the time of its release - what with the huge advances it made in areas such as graphics and gameplay. Perhaps you played it a while later, after experiencing later FFs, or other games LIKE CoD/Halo/Gears of War?
I'm not trying to talk down to you or anything, btw - just trying to find out why you feel as you do :)
I'll be fucking damned if anyone ever tells me that this was not the greatest game of it's generation, and still probably one of the greatest games ever made. Fed up of jumped up skyrim fans telling me, SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM!! yes, Skyrim is fucking great, I love it tbh. However at it's time FFVII was amazing, better than what Skyrim is in it's time.
@saindst ff7 today is still a better game than skyrim today. seriously, you go play ff7 you see just how much love is in that game, every other game just fades away into nothing. skyrim has no emotion. ff7 was full of it. i havnt played ff7 for maybe 10 years but i still wake up humming barrets theme.
But that's just me being all scientific and stuff. I mean, it really is sad that Aerith just suddenly...was killed like that. Though I can't have the same emotional impact because I've never played any Final Fantasy games. Aerith's theme is pretty, however.
Something bothers me about Aerith's death. Based on the location of Sephiroth's sword when it pierced Aerith's body, he shouldn't have hit anything that would have instantly killed her. It went through her lower abdomen, whereas her vitals (such as her heart) are located higher up. Obviously the people at Square didn't look at a human's anatomy when they made this scene. Aerith SHOULD have lived for at least an hour before dying of eventual blood loss, based on the location.
She was so annoying. Jealous of Tifa. Her death can't be avoided so don't try... but u can see her ghost for a split second. Anyway, my sister cried at this scene lol I thought it was effing awesome w the graphics (At the time)
@Thanquol180 A little emotional, huh? FF7 is what sold the PS I believe, but it is important to remember that while Sephiroth tries to destroy the world...Kefka fucking did. He didn't have a reason either, he was just simply batshit. Much scarier.
@Numonkei yeah, a little emotional. I also love how Kefka rose to power and i feel he is much more human than Sephiroth, and his lack of maturity is also enticing. He also is nuts which is even cooler. And yes, he destroyed the world, which really can't be said of any other video game (or even movie) villains.
I think FF7 is completely revolutionary in so MANY aspects, to name a few:
1. the use of choir music for the final battle (Sephiroth's 2nd form: One Winged Angel)
2. the Summons' awesome graphics (remember people, in that time, it was a HUGE transition from Super Nintendo/SNES-tiny bits graphics into THIS one!!),..not to mention Sephiroth's Supernova!!
3. the complex (& also very 'religious'-related) storyline & theme.
that's why I still give highest kudos to FF7,..even still now!!
@nikiwonoto i diagree with your 2nd point, it is only revolutionary because it is from 2D to 3D. If you compare it to other games at the time, its graphic wasn't that impressive
if you guys want her back use a cheatcode. this scene touched me too but it is kind of a good thing they got rid of her. her limit breaks were way too overpowered having her throughout the way would have been way too easy
I never really understood why this was so sad. It's a pity that Aeris died and that Sepy attacked her, but I never felt attached enough to care. And the way they made her stick like glue to you close to her death annoyed me a bit. I suppose I'll be called a FFVI fanboy for this, but the emotional scenes in that actually struck me. The cheesy lines in this didn't help much either. I do love FFVII but this is one of the few part that I didn't like. Just wanting to know if anyone agrees with me.
@Safros9 i agree with you. I wasn't so sad watching this scene (maybe because i knew it may happen?) but as far as my "character deaths" experience go, i was never get upset with a character's death whose i didn't get attached with, and i don't think Square really did a good job developing the character of Aeris to that level. Tifa's death would be more upset imo, she has much more of a character than aeris
fucking predictable because EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT IT!!!!! Also, I hate this game compaired to FF6 or FF3 here in the U.S. It was all about whinny characters no one cared about and it was so predictable! (cloud and sepharoth suck btw) I say that I was playing a better depressing game at the time! (COUGH COUGH METAL GEAR SOLID COUGH COUGH!)
Even though the Final Fntasy series is pretty much horrible... This is probably the WORST final fantasy game ever. I laughed when she died probably because of how cheesy her death scene is. LOL
This didn't make me sad the first time I saw this. I was anticipating it, believe it or not. I did feel angry and felt like shit afterwards and almost died on the fight.
I play this game once a year, every year without fail since its release. This one scene made me want to get everyone to Lvl99 and kick the fucking shit out of everyone. Without doubt, the best story, the most captivating, the most emotional, the most addictive, the greatest game of all time.
I remember when I played this for the first time, I was 8 or 9
I used to pretend I was Cloud and Aeris was my girlfriend, and then they just kill my girl like that
That was fucking traumatic

WHAT the fuck is wrong with you people i mean who likes this??? what happend to this world omfg !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
gamemasterpro99 1 month ago
@gamemasterpro99 This, my friend, is - in short - the greatest scene in video-gaming history. And I strongly suggest you stop raging at us: you will annoy a great many people by disrespecting it.
ProCrastiVisionJRD 1 month ago
@ProCrastiVisionJRD dude WHAT!!!!!!! i mean look at that i dont even understand it they dont even talk wtf........
gamemasterpro99 1 month ago
@gamemasterpro99 You don't understand because you don't play the game. Now stop giving disrespectful comments because FF7 was a revolutionary game of its generation.
halloffamer02 1 month ago
@halloffamer02 never heard of it
gamemasterpro99 1 month ago
@gamemasterpro99 Then that doesn't do your name justice. This game popularised the RPG genre in the world. And hell, you don't know COD?

@gamemasterpro99 How old are you? 12? 13?
Stick to CoD - you'll understand it more (Y)
ProCrastiVisionJRD 1 month ago
@ProCrastiVisionJRD actually i am 16 and what is cod`??
gamemasterpro99 1 month ago
@ProCrastiVisionJRD
NewZen41 1 month ago
@NewZen41 At what point did I criticise CoD? Or any game, at that?
If you played it, and didn't like it, fine - I have nothing against that, and at least you're forming an opinion based on your experience.
That isn't to say I don't strongly disagree with you - but each to their own.
The reason I responded to the initial comment is that @gamemasterpro99 barged his way onto the comment thread with no prior knowledge, and proceeded to rage mindlessly.
ProCrastiVisionJRD 1 month ago
@NewZen41 And you have to agree - there's no real "thinking" required in CoD, as a good a game as it is :/
ProCrastiVisionJRD 1 month ago
@ProCrastiVisionJRD
NewZen41 1 month ago
@NewZen41 I agree that, at this point in the game, characters hadn't been developed hugely: it was only the end of disk 1! But what made Aeris' death so powerful was the ROLE she had played in Cloud's story. She was a likeable character, and her storyline integrated her quite securely into the group.
Also, I disagree when you say it's "cliche:" it may be cliche now, but character death has become such a focal point in storylines for games, by that argument it's hard to find a story that ISN'T.
ProCrastiVisionJRD 1 month ago
@NewZen41
ProCrastiVisionJRD 1 month ago
I'll be fucking damned if anyone ever tells me that this was not the greatest game of it's generation, and still probably one of the greatest games ever made. Fed up of jumped up skyrim fans telling me, SKYRIM SKYRIM SKYRIM!! yes, Skyrim is fucking great, I love it tbh. However at it's time FFVII was amazing, better than what Skyrim is in it's time.
saindst 1 month ago
@saindst ff7 today is still a better game than skyrim today. seriously, you go play ff7 you see just how much love is in that game, every other game just fades away into nothing. skyrim has no emotion. ff7 was full of it. i havnt played ff7 for maybe 10 years but i still wake up humming barrets theme.

But that's just me being all scientific and stuff. I mean, it really is sad that Aerith just suddenly...was killed like that. Though I can't have the same emotional impact because I've never played any Final Fantasy games. Aerith's theme is pretty, however.
ClefairyRox 1 month ago
Something bothers me about Aerith's death. Based on the location of Sephiroth's sword when it pierced Aerith's body, he shouldn't have hit anything that would have instantly killed her. It went through her lower abdomen, whereas her vitals (such as her heart) are located higher up. Obviously the people at Square didn't look at a human's anatomy when they made this scene. Aerith SHOULD have lived for at least an hour before dying of eventual blood loss, based on the location.
ClefairyRox 1 month ago
She was so annoying. Jealous of Tifa. Her death can't be avoided so don't try... but u can see her ghost for a split second. Anyway, my sister cried at this scene lol I thought it was effing awesome w the graphics (At the time)

poor aerith... =(
but what i don't get is: why can i still buy weapons for aerith AFTER her death?!?!
does that mean that we might avoid her deathscene? but i think that's impossible huh?...

REMAKE REMAKE DAMN IT REMAKE!!! The company would make loads more money with a remake then with a new final fantasy game.

Sephiroth is a Kefka wannabe. He's a total poser. I HATE HATE HATE HIM, and EVERYBODY Who LIKES THIS WHITe HAIRED PANSY (insert Kefka laugh)
Thanquol180 2 months ago
@Thanquol180 A little emotional, huh? FF7 is what sold the PS I believe, but it is important to remember that while Sephiroth tries to destroy the world...Kefka fucking did. He didn't have a reason either, he was just simply batshit. Much scarier.
Numonkei 2 months ago
@Numonkei yeah, a little emotional. I also love how Kefka rose to power and i feel he is much more human than Sephiroth, and his lack of maturity is also enticing. He also is nuts which is even cooler. And yes, he destroyed the world, which really can't be said of any other video game (or even movie) villains.
Thanquol180 2 months ago
Meh, I had more emotions watching Cid realize his life's dream of going to space in the rocket.
Anotora 2 months ago
@Anotora you meant the part when he stopped the whole operation to save (insert her name)? If it is, then you're right, that part was epic
Cafu192 2 months ago
I think FF7 is completely revolutionary in so MANY aspects, to name a few:
1. the use of choir music for the final battle (Sephiroth's 2nd form: One Winged Angel)
2. the Summons' awesome graphics (remember people, in that time, it was a HUGE transition from Super Nintendo/SNES-tiny bits graphics into THIS one!!),..not to mention Sephiroth's Supernova!!
3. the complex (& also very 'religious'-related) storyline & theme.
that's why I still give highest kudos to FF7,..even still now!!
nikiwonoto 2 months ago
@nikiwonoto i diagree with your 2nd point, it is only revolutionary because it is from 2D to 3D. If you compare it to other games at the time, its graphic wasn't that impressive
Cafu192 2 months ago
if you guys want her back use a cheatcode. this scene touched me too but it is kind of a good thing they got rid of her. her limit breaks were way too overpowered having her throughout the way would have been way too easy

Safros9 2 months ago
@Safros9 i agree with you. I wasn't so sad watching this scene (maybe because i knew it may happen?) but as far as my "character deaths" experience go, i was never get upset with a character's death whose i didn't get attached with, and i don't think Square really did a good job developing the character of Aeris to that level. Tifa's death would be more upset imo, she has much more of a character than aeris
Cafu192 2 months ago
fucking predictable because EVERYONE TALKS ABOUT IT!!!!!

LOL
hellobitch100 2 months ago
final fantasy VII was overrated, Aerith was a useless shit head who had no emotional attachment to anyone in the party, especially cloud

Cloud: Why did you kill Aerith!? Why!?
Sephiroth: Her final limit break is too damn awesome to be used in our final battle.

I play this game once a year, every year without fail since its release. This one scene made me want to get everyone to Lvl99 and kick the fucking shit out of everyone. Without doubt, the best story, the most captivating, the most emotional, the most addictive, the greatest game of all time.

I'd love to see them redo thise scene with modern graphics. It'd be so beautifully sad.
