Just my two cents (with no in god we trust) on it.
The British National right wing newspaper The Daily Mail carried a story of a local council trying to ban Christmas. Other newspapers investigated the same story and discovered that what the council had baned was Christmas wrapping paper with metalic glitter from their recycling project.
While I think people should say happy holidays, it should be a personal choice, not something mandated by a buisness, government or other organization. I'm more offended by someone having to say something that they might not want to say, then by them actually saying it.

I personally don't care and it doesn't bother me either way, but it bothers me when someone is being told they cannot say it at all. I'm just saying we shouldn't have laws, and companies shouldn't enact mandatory policies that their employees HAVE to say it. They could say "we rather you say it". The department chain I work for has no policy and people say what they want, but most say Happy Holidays anyway. And it would be more advantageous if it were a choice not a requirement.

As soon as a company "tries" to force someone to say "Happy Holidays" instead of "Merry Christmas" there will be a huge lawsuit, for discrimination on their religion.
Alot of companies just know it's more beneficial for them to say "H H" to be all inclusive & "make the customer happy"

And while I don't think a huge lawsuit should follow, I do think some action should be taken because it is not a religous issue but a free speech issue. If they asked for more then to cover time and legal fees then I don't support any lawsuit, but if they just want the rule repealed then go for it. Yes H H is better for all.

Christmas has never had religious connotations in my life. When I was a child it was about santa and presents and being off school. Now I'm older its about drinking and being off school. No religious connotation whatsoever, and i still call it christmas, would this pastor jerk have no trouble with me just because i call the holiday its correct name even though I'm not partying about jesus? America makes no sense, glad i'm in Britain.

My feeling is those Christians that complain about "Happy Holidays" complain because they don't like Christmas lumped in with holidays. Holidays are about fun, family, or less serious stuff (ie easter, halloween, valantine's day). Christmas is about the birth of their savior, the god they believe in coming to earth, etc. It's like calling it a story, when it's (to them) a historical fact.
So, they can't let it be lumped into the "Happy Holiday" greeting, because it's more than that to them...

I'm an atheist, I celebrate Christmas, but not as a day when a baby Jesus was born, but as a holiday when family and friends come together. I reply "Merry Christmas" to "Merry Christmas", I don't have a problem with that, why should I? I won't get offended if somebody wishes me happy Hanukkah, I'll be happy to wish them the same! It seems though christians get pissed off very easily for even the most trivial shit. How christian of them!

Homosexuals are not 'regular' people. Which may seem offensive, but it is true. Because homosexuals are the minority, and since 'regular' is culturally driven by the populous and not an objective force, it would be considered irregular. Until the numbers are closer to being equal, it is not realistic in thinking that even with all the people coming out, they would be considered 'regular' (societal standards).

@666xDevilmanx666 Atheism is not simply a "lack of Belief", since we all have beliefs. Even a nihilist believes in something, even you believe in something (even if it is that there is no God).
Atheism is broken up into two parts. A-Theism. In latin, the A is a negation, it makes what ever follows into a negative. That leads to theism (one Deity-God, so not like dualism). So you can read it as a non-theist, which only pertains to a few religions, not all.

Can anyone provide me evidence that Charles Dickens was an atheist? I remember reading the story when I was young and I can recall A Christmas Carol mentioning a very real fear of an afterlife and of repentance, so any help in finding a source would be appreciated.

I also explained to him that assuming that people say Happy Holidays for the reason of removing Christ from Xmas is...no less and assumption. People say it to be more PC. My feeling is those Christians that complain about "Happy Holidays" complain because they don't like Christmas lumped in with holidays. Holidays are about fun, family, or less serious stuff (ie easter, halloween, valantine's day). Christmas is about the birth of their savior, the god they believe in coming to earth, etc. It's like calling it a story, when it's (to them) a historical fact.
So, they can't let it be lumped into the "Happy Holiday" greeting, because it's more than that to them...

I reply "Merry Christmas" to "Merry Christmas", I don't have a problem with that, why should I? I won't get offended if somebody wishes me happy Hanukkah, I'll be happy to wish them the same! I'm from the UK, where atheism is officially at about 44% (but probably higher) and Christianity maybe 51% - plus plenty Muslims, Hindus etc.
We have no tradition of saying 'Happy Holidays', people would think you were nuts.
Christmas Eve the manager of my local Indian takeaway hand delivered me a card & wished me 'Merry Christmas'. He's Muslim, I'm atheist.
Point is... to us, Merry Christmas doesn't necessarily mean anything religious.
The phrase "Happy Holidays" is actually the problem.

Because homosexuals are the minority, and since 'regular' is culturally driven by the populous and not an objective force, it would be considered irregular. @666xDevilmanx666 Atheism is not simply a "lack of Belief", since we all have beliefs. Even a nihilist believes in something, even you believe in something (even if it is that there is no God).
Atheism is broken up into two parts. A-Theism. In latin, the A is a negation, it makes what ever follows into a negative. That leads to theism (one Deity-God, so not like dualism). So you can read it as a non-theist, which only pertains to a few religions, not all.
You are wrong again.

Can anyone provide me evidence that Charles Dickens was an atheist? I remember reading the story when I was young and I can recall A Christmas Carol mentioning a very real fear of an afterlife and of repentance, so any help in finding a source would be appreciated.

I'm sure if you remembered, Bob Cratchit, Scrooge's underpaid clerk, his frail, crippled son, Tiny Tim, will die if not treated, as Scrooge saw from yet to come. AronRa thought that was more important than the neglected, untended, and quiet grave of Scrooge (this fear of an afterlife). Now, I actually understood what AronRa meant that Dickens is supposed to be an atheist, because a Christian, like Disney, would adapt that grave into the bowels of Hell.
