A good version, but also a bit boring to honest. A little flat on the emotion side, she somehow speaks out the lyrics to much. Her strongest point, emotion, doesnt come out in this way. I like the Elvis version better, although she has more technical "luggage" so to speak.
@mmdillon. This comment is excellent and in the main I completely agree with you. However, that said, DSB does have a wonderful vocal range/diction & emotional delivery. Using her vocal chords extremely artistically and with exceptional vocal control and technique! A GREAT VOCALIST in any assessment. Undeniable. But a voice is all very personal. Sometimes I hear voices that I enjoy despite the fact that they are not particularly good from a technical stand point.
@americangalbasseyfan. Absolutely agree. However, I'm going to try! ;-) Every slight arrangement variation musically and vocally is always fabulous. There can only ever ever be one DSB....
i may get alot of critism for this, but i think she is the best female vocalist, not because of her range but because of the feeling and emotion she puts in the song
@dready187 No one in their right mind could knock your comments this woman is the ultimate diva and the greatest female performer of the last 50yrs. Legend!!!!
fantastic...this woman is soooo good other singers should be rated 1 to 10 against the Bassey scale. You would find no one would go anywhere near her.
Jonas and Julian you have posted the best of the best with this performance. It is the best of all the DSB My way's on You Tube. She is so phenomenal! I agree with Jeannie. Dame Shirley sings Frank and Elvis under the table with this song. Oddly enough she is the best performer of this song, but she is not listed on the Wikepedia as having recorded it.I wonder when your video was recorded? Thanks
@lydee09 "The best" and singing others "under the table" are very subjective assessments that will always be made by a performer's ardent fans. What reaches one person, however, may not reach another. Musical performing, especially singing (the only musical instrument built-in to the human body!), is personal; folks tend to passionately assess that which moves them emotionally. That said, you really can't expect your assessments to be the final word -- you can only share YOUR perception.
@mmdillon1 Thanks for your truthful comment. Does a final word exist on anything anywhere these days? Certainly not on my comments nor yours. Almost everything is relative. Rest assured, I have no expectations. I am just expressing my feelings and convictions as I am moved by the awesome Dame Shirley Bassey. Thanks
i LOVE ELVIS,i love frank, and shirley bassey is just marvelous

it is a masterpiece. She resists the usual temptation to overplay it. When she sings
"what is a woman.." it is really gives it meaning. My only criticism: who got her into that dress??

5 Stars. Nobody sings 'My Way' better than Dame Shirley. No, not Sinatra or even Elvis. Nobody does it like Shirley.
