@littleamigos 5% of the American population has been diagnosed with BPD, which is what Susanna has. That's 1 in 20 girls. Then factor in that BPD is generally regarded as not a real disorder because it's co-morbid with other things, the actual percentage of girls with it is much much higher because of undiagnosis. The movie is going to be too close for comfort for alot of girls because of it's deepness and reality. I know it was for me, but I've been diagnosed with BPD.

But Winona Ryder's character didn't have BPD.

She was lashing out against her life.

Techniqually, that's not a diagnosis, and in a hospital, they look for illnesses or symptoms that can be treated. Things that are understood. BPD falls in that catagory.

Do you have a psychiatric licence? If not, you probably shouldn't be talking about the diseases.

BPD alsssoooo falls into the category of being a 'trashcan diagnosis'... obviously here it was a little suburban girl "lashing out at life" as "SYC" said. You can't trust doctors either. They either diagnose for funds, or just to shutup the rich parents that put their kids into Mental Wards because they don't enjoy cocktail parties.

Back in the 60 ties they used the BPD as a storage box for all the "problematic" patients they could not diagnose and they kept them for years which was not necesserily for the better of the patients.. And before you ask, yes I've studied psychology and it was common knowledge at my school..
