  • digitaldy... if it's got you so hot under the collar then chances are it's a very successful artwork! It doesn't matter how much it costs- art is about ideas. It made you think. Two thumbs up! And just for the record, I'll bet the jet engine has been referred to as art plenty of times. Just because legendary beautiful buildings fall into disrepair, doesn't mean that budgets dedicated to supporting the importance of creativity in our society would be spent on those buildings anyway...

  • Retarded what is the point of this?

  • This is a ^really^ badly shot video

  • @bluesbecame I agree. they should have shown at least one revolution from one point of view. spoils the effect otherwise..

  • at first i had a big ass "WHY" in my head, but this is just enigeering art man, i think its special, and unique, i like it!!

  • Hnestly? .. you THINK it's unique?

How many other buildings have you seen like this?

  • I still have a big ass "why" in my head.

  • hi,

does anyone know the name of the producer of this video?

  • Oh god damn it..no more beer

  • Esta obra de arte es total. Yo estuve allí!

  • so whats it for then?

  • It makes the house easier to move through. Also once it finishes a rotation, some money comes out. It's completely practical!

  • Amazing! Imagine the technical genius required!!

  • Gordon Matta Clark is the real artist behind this project.

  • I suspected that 'artist' in this case might rather be some self-deprecating engineer...

  • thanks, debbie downer.

ps - do you exist just to shit on things?

  • Gordon Matta-Clark called.

    He wants his projects back.

  • fantastic

  • It's easy to understand how Scousers are perceived as their stereotype when I read some of the comments on here. This is an incredibly clever piece of work and no mean feat of engineering either. Any talk of public money etc. is irrelevant, as it would have been spent on some form of art and I truely believe this is something quite special. For all of those people who think it's crap, please post a link to your own public art work and we shall all judge your efforts...

  • WHY?

  • o shit its raining... o theres 4000 birds nests in here, man I wish it wasn't snowing... k lemme close the hole.. it only take 1 hour

  • its not payed by tax payers money, its payed by private investers, wish you'd research before commenting

  • As far as I can tell it cost about 450 000 pounds to make. 150 000 of that was privately funded by the Culture Company (though I think they get matching funds in any case), leaving 300 000 pounds for the Northwest Regional Development Agency and The Northern Way to pay, both publicly funded entities. It was part of a 4.4 million pound arts program.

That's 4.4 million pounds worth of tax payers money spent on wasteful projects like this.

wish you'd think before opening your mouth

  • wow how shit what a waste of money

  • This is so amazing.

I have no idea how it's done.

  • ay ppl gess waa his brother is my art teacher hahahahhahaha

  • Wow! Automating a Gordon Matta Clark piece is an ok idea.

  • This WILL BE KNOCKED DOWN, after the Biennial and 2008 are over, even though this 'artwork' actually cost over £1 million pounds to construct. Yes, it's a clever and unusual piece of engineering. So was the jet engine, never once referred to as 'art'. I'm from Liverpool and I'm sick of the way this Capital of Culture idiocy has sent the construction of new fangled monstrosities into overdrive, when many of our legendarily beautiful buildings fall into further disrepair.

  • @digitaldy well it's still there... looks like you were wrong about that bit. Personally I love this thing and so do most visitors to Liverpool I show it to.

You are right about some of the monstrosities that they have put up. I don't mind them being new fangled but they tend to be a bit lacking in originality/good ideas.

  • The pictures catched my eye but... than watching the piece going in circle... I'm still waiting for a "wow".

  • What a truly incredible piece of architecture! Way to go, Liverpool. You've got quite a work of art on your hands!

  • Hahaha.. jammasterjc is that you singing in your video on your channel? If So I'm Speechless!hahaha

  • remain full of speech as the singer is not i.

  • Feed some Hungry Kids ,Send one poor but very smart kid to college, put seat belts on school buses.. This is Shallow. I love Art this isn't art this is a waste of resoures.

  • what 'art' do you love then? Feeding hungry kids isnt art by the way.

  • I rather meant the money spent on this could have been put to better use. Kids need to eat to live. We could have lived without this art. Just a matter of my opinion. I love Art. This wouldn't have been an art I would have been drawn to even if there were no such thing as hungry kids.

  • i dont understand your arguement couldnt any peice of art therefore beeen put to better use

  • Well, it is art because it's creative. That's what art is. Creativity. Art is also subjective, so it's actually impossible for someone to say anything is not art as anything can be art in someone else's eyes.

You could say it's shit art though !

  • DON'T THE CURTAINS GET A BIT TANGLED?

    "Bring Iraqi Families Home"

  • Fantastic!! I hope this building won't be demolished. This hole in the wall is worth alone a trip to Liverpool.

  • This building was actually abandoned. So the Artist saved it because he chose it as his site for this project.

  • Always happy to hear from people who say stuff like "football is just 22 grown men chasing a tiny ball", "a movie is just some guys and gals talking to each other" or "it's just a hole in the wall".

And the Mona Lisa is a just a girl smiling etc. etc. etc.

  • Yeah, but it's a hole in the wall.... It's cool and all, but by no means a work of art. It's just an expensive way to say "look at me!"

  • BRAVO! spot on mate.

  • @paparazzia look at the curved cut, its not a simple circle, amazing gifted engineers making modern art

  • Hmmm, a 500.000£ hole in the wall... Wow, that's an exellent waste of money.

  • that hole in the wall has payed my mums salary. appreciate it!
