Wow. this is awful. I honestly don't understand how calling something a tradition automatically makes it okay to do? if you know anything at all about horses, you would know that running on concrete is awful for their hooves and joints. the constant smashing against the road ruins their legs. and whipping the crap out of them? just because you can't see the bruises doesn't mean they're not there. A car should never drive that close to a horse. this sport is meant for a track not the road.

in fairness (and i'm not saying i agree with this) more horses are seriously injured at racing or x country events than doing this.. maybe if there were proper trotting tracks for them to race on they would..? after all we build massive top market race courses and x country eventing courses but that cos that considered 'acceptable'.. ive been involved in x country since i was little and ive see some pretty nasty injuries to both horse and rider (myself included) but no one wants to ban that..
