Contrary to popular belief, white people/musicians have just as much soul as black people, it's just a bad stereotype. Why can't there be a 'whitest black drummer"?
Je n'aime pas la présentation. L'animateur a cité Cornell Dupree sans cité Eric Gale. Ptt que Cornell est du coin ? Mais omettre ainsi Eric Gale c'est vraiment un lèse-majesté.

LOL, you're right about Eric Gale. Looking at pictures of him, in general, the dude never smiled. It gives the impression that he's bored but his solo is tells another story...
It's funny how polarized we've become when it comes to speaking on "race" today. Seems to me that the comment on Gadd was a compliment, not a put down. Steve was one of most in demand session drummers in the 1970s and 1980s because the cat could groove. Anyway, R.I.P. Mr. Dupree, your contribution to music will be felt forever.
@midiman51 ...I agree with you, it should be a compliment... some of my favorite drummers are Al Foster, Tony Williams, and Carlton Barrett (I'm a huge Miles Davis and Bob Marley fan, what can I say....), and those guys have a groove that most white drummers simply don't have. Not to take anything away from Mitch Mitchell, but there's a huge groove difference between "The Experience" and "Band of Gypsys". Gadd had it, simple as that. Yeah..... RIP Mr Dupree.....
@SlimboStix ...guess what? I also think Mitch played a lot better than Buddy Miles. All I'm saying is there's a huge groove difference. I never said that Buddy Miles was great, and if you somehow thought that's what I was saying, then, well... I don't even know what to say to that........
got this gig on DVD. what a band is all i can say :) as a musician i aspire to be as good as these if not better. ;) Unbelievable task ahead of me haha. LOVE THIS. LOVE everyone people, music is my religion.
is this Montreaux by any chance? The announcer sounds like the guy who introduces Stevie Ray Vaughan at his first Montreaux performance when he was booed.
This cracks me up; These guys are ripping your face off with groove and there are 4 people who don't like this???? Why did they bother to comment at all, they obviously don't get it! LOL
This whole concert is available on CD and DVD "Stuff Live In Montreux" The guys were late and tok the stage for this opening number, and the damn instruments weren't even tuned up yet! You see Eric Gale tuning up as he went along. Geez these guys were GREAT! Gordon Edwards-bass Eric Gale-guitar Cornell Dupree-guitar Richard Tee- Keyboards Steve Gadd -Drums! New York's finest Jazz/funk session band ever. RIP Eric Gale and Richard Tee.
@smoovegittar Not all of us thank you very much. I'm 16 and live for this music. Please don't stereotype all young people. I find it really frustrating and patronizing.

Tight, sharp, syncopated improvisation.Loved Eric Gale with Grover Washington Jr.He left us around the same time as Joe Pass & Albert Collins, both top of their craft in their guitar styles
-cont- ...and... to you men (or women) that 'get it'... If you ever see a full-busomed (or not) woman wearing one of these t-shirts... (the joke works both ways) ...do not laugh, keep your eyes on her eyes, and smile. Go over and ask if she likes the band's music. She may say "yes", or she may say "huh?" Only THEN, look down at her chest and that wonderful word STUFF. And... then... you can grin. "Yes" or "huh?" doesn't matter, you got some great 'Stuff' to talk about. =)
And I have this set on replay, with a few other vids set into the mix.
I've been listening to odd ...stuff... all my life. This little band of studio musicians caught me decades ago. Just SIMPLY one of the best jazz-rock-funk bands 'never' seen on this planet.
T-shirts sought on E-Bay, by teen-agers who have never heard the music, and albums sought in dust LP shops by old fogey fans that know the joke.
4:39 I love when musicians can do this sort of shit. A chord sounds weird, and they tune in the middle of a song. I'm a drummer, so I honestly don't know what A, B, or C or anything is.
Yes young ones this is what music is all about, has to have heart, soul, whatever you want to call it; in other words needs to have feeling and that feeling has to come through to whoever is listening.
In my opinion "music" took a drastic down turn in the ninety's and except for the odd gem that once in a while is produced, there is nothing worth listening to presently on the airwaves, or worth buying (unless it is the "OLD STUFF").

Today, there isn't even a radio station I can play. And I hate American Idol, of course, and totally despise MTV.
Listen how Gordon Edwards makes all kind of space for the piano and drums to get busy while he just holds down the 1 and 3! That's masterful.

@Stumprrp I grew up with this type of great music.
I haven't been able to add really anything to my music collection in the last 25 years. A few albums here and there, but not the years 1973 to around 1985.
Today, there isn't even a radio station I can play. And I hate American Idol, of course, and totally despise MTV.
