  • Listen how Gordon Edwards makes all kind of space for the piano and drums to get busy while he just holds down the 1 and 3! That's masterful.

  • this is "Foots" from their first studio lp from 1976.

  • Yeah okay. I see in colors. But all I heard was pure funk.

  • Good stuff

  • so cool! 5:17

  • Dupree's got the juice

  • they sing through their instruments

  • Cornell Dupree, stone groover supreme @ 5.16...don't try that home kids!

  • @rarch1968 Hah! No shit.......... that is one of the best comments I've ever seen on here man!

  • @compabutch1 Cheers, thanks for that...you know its the truth!

  • Nice Quality. Video and specially audio wise. Or is it just my xfi gaming sound card with my razer carcharias Headphone.

  • (Posted by Youtube Stream for iPhone (yst.me) on behalf of noahzasurfrider at twitter)

  • Hey, Mr Funky Finger! 2:56

  • .....this was and is one of the best band for ever !!!!

  • steven gadd? :P

  • i love this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Contrary to popular belief, white people/musicians have just as much soul as black people, it's just a bad stereotype. Why can't there be a 'whitest black drummer"?

  • you have heard them on "unermous" records. Nice one frenchie.

  • Je n'aime pas la présentation. L'animateur a cité Cornell Dupree sans cité Eric Gale. Ptt que Cornell est du coin ? Mais omettre ainsi Eric Gale c'est vraiment un lèse-majesté.

    Ciao

  • @ovalie38 bah si il dit "Cornell Dupree and Eric Gale on guitar" 2'22''

c'est vrai qu'ils sont complémentaires tous les deux, avec des jeux différents

  • Great song! Fell in love with it right away! It's called "Foots" though

  • thank you cornell for for them double stops, fat drops and afro hi tops xxxx

  • Such a badass song. makes me feel like a badass just listening to it

  • Sturrrrffff!!!!

  • "....you've heard them in Animal's record....." 0:07

  • what a groove....love it!!!

  • this is a boss band

  • Eric Gale looks bored out of his mind! I don't know why but I love it!! :)

  • @TeresaCruz

LOL, you're right about Eric Gale. Looking at pictures of him, in general, the dude never smiled. It gives the impression that he's bored but his solo is tells another story...

  • @bongo269 Exactly! That's why it's so funny, he's so damn amazing but he always looks like... 1:43 !! :)

  • @bongo269 i think hi is in trans

  • badass groove

  • gadd is fucking amazing

  • Oohh sooo good!!!!!

  • Sounds like an episode of Fat Albert. Me likes

  • NICE!

  • 4 people must've meant to type in Justin Bieber Stuff, but forgot the Justin Bieber part

  • 0:25 FRENCHY RUNS LIKE A GIRL! XD

  • R.I.P Cornell Dupree. We loved you!

  • @taildragger53 And still do!

  • Oooo...Now thats what I call a thick groove baby!

  • i ve seen some stuff around so i can say these are gods.

  • Drumming has nothing to do with race.

  • Muito, muito, muito bom mesmo !!!

  • See more on Steve Gadd on SoulDrummers . com

  • It's funny how polarized we've become when it comes to speaking on "race" today. Seems to me that the comment on Gadd was a compliment, not a put down. Steve was one of most in demand session drummers in the 1970s and 1980s because the cat could groove. Anyway, R.I.P. Mr. Dupree, your contribution to music will be felt forever.

  • @midiman51 ...I agree with you, it should be a compliment... some of my favorite drummers are Al Foster, Tony Williams, and Carlton Barrett (I'm a huge Miles Davis and Bob Marley fan, what can I say....), and those guys have a groove that most white drummers simply don't have. Not to take anything away from Mitch Mitchell, but there's a huge groove difference between "The Experience" and "Band of Gypsys". Gadd had it, simple as that. Yeah..... RIP Mr Dupree.....

  • @TheRealDerfMan >> No, I really think Mitch played a lot better than Buddy Miles. Sure, there's a difference, but Buddy wasn't that great.

  • @SlimboStix ...guess what? I also think Mitch played a lot better than Buddy Miles. All I'm saying is there's a huge groove difference. I never said that Buddy Miles was great, and if you somehow thought that's what I was saying, then, well... I don't even know what to say to that........

  • あっちの世界の方が楽しそーだ。。。RIP..CORNELL D...

  • @divinalanz あなたのコメで泣いてしまったじゃないか・・・・・

  • RIP Cornell

  • RIP Cornell Dupree you are the greatest

  • MR.CORNELL DUPREE....R.I.P.

  • Why Eric Galeseems to miss so?

    Which curious attitude!

Richard Tee makes a formidable job!

  • this is how you groove. we all need to be reminded from time to time.

  • got this gig on DVD. what a band is all i can say :) as a musician i aspire to be as good as these if not better. ;) Unbelievable task ahead of me haha. LOVE THIS. LOVE everyone people, music is my religion.

  • 4 did not find the tickets that day

  • 4 did'nt find the tickets that day

  • is this Montreaux by any chance? The announcer sounds like the guy who introduces Stevie Ray Vaughan at his first Montreaux performance when he was booed.

  • @JackStitch

    yes

  • Wow damn tight GROOVE!!

  • This cracks me up; These guys are ripping your face off with groove and there are 4 people who don't like this???? Why did they bother to comment at all, they obviously don't get it! LOL

  • i want that t shirt badly

  • Why does that bald guy seem so pissed off?

  • Wow, I wish I could attend a concert like this! But now, all we have is that awful synthetic pop music.

  • Excuse me whilst I don a fur coat and strut down a city street

  • I love the sound of a good grand piano, but this would have sounded so much cooler with a Wurlitzer 200, Rhodes, or a B-3. Killer stuff though......

  • I am pretty sure that if you put 150 pounds and an afro on Eric Gale he would look like Shirley Hemphill

  • Here it all is.

  • simply can't find the words for this...

  • Love the Stuff!

I also like the way they mixed Eric Gale on the left... Evidently the mix engineers didn't watch the video. ;-)

    peace

  • @CardinalEgan Right - if you reverse your headphones, it makes more sense.

  • It´s good going music,and I like hear it.

  • This whole concert is available on CD and DVD "Stuff Live In Montreux" The guys were late and tok the stage for this opening number, and the damn instruments weren't even tuned up yet! You see Eric Gale tuning up as he went along. Geez these guys were GREAT! Gordon Edwards-bass Eric Gale-guitar Cornell Dupree-guitar Richard Tee- Keyboards Steve Gadd -Drums! New York's finest Jazz/funk session band ever. RIP Eric Gale and Richard Tee.

  • 2:15 the sneaker !! lol

  • Strawberryjungle - sorry to offend - but you would be in the minority.

  • Sitting at work with my headphones on....My head's a bobbin!

  • Man, I could cry when I see this. The youth playing out there today need to get a clue.

  • @smoovegittar Not all of us thank you very much. I'm 16 and live for this music. Please don't stereotype all young people. I find it really frustrating and patronizing.

  • why the hell are the cameramen filming eachother?

  • Just awesome.

  • Is there a bass solo at the end?

  • @mamounbanni

no, it's the beginning of the following song actually

  • Oh , man ! If music be the souund of soul - play on !

  • Why is the bass player sittin on his lazy ass??

  • @yeti30312

What's it matter? Who cares? They're that good. Do you see dancers? Do you see pointless, seizure-inducing lights? Nothing to see here. It's all about the MUSIC.

  • @Drchainsaw77 Amen

  • these guys are so cool no one even questions that they're all wearing their own shirt! haha

  • who needs a metronome? just use gadd and edwards.

  • Tight, sharp, syncopated improvisation.Loved Eric Gale with Grover Washington Jr.He left us around the same time as Joe Pass & Albert Collins, both top of their craft in their guitar styles

  • -cont- ...and... to you men (or women) that 'get it'... If you ever see a full-busomed (or not) woman wearing one of these t-shirts... (the joke works both ways) ...do not laugh, keep your eyes on her eyes, and smile. Go over and ask if she likes the band's music. She may say "yes", or she may say "huh?" Only THEN, look down at her chest and that wonderful word STUFF. And... then... you can grin. "Yes" or "huh?" doesn't matter, you got some great 'Stuff' to talk about. =)
  • You know... I'm playing some odd game on-line...

And I have this set on replay, with a few other vids set into the mix.

I've been listening to odd ...stuff... all my life. This little band of studio musicians caught me decades ago. Just SIMPLY one of the best jazz-rock-funk bands 'never' seen on this planet.

T-shirts sought on E-Bay, by teen-agers who have never heard the music, and albums sought in dust LP shops by old fogey fans that know the joke.

    And in the end...

    It's just STUFF!!

  • im on this stuff for good. groove just doesnt happen like this anymore. str8 masters of it.

  • oh what a sweet sweet pocket... mmm

  • "Blackest white drummer" my ass. Steve's groove is very white. He's ours--now let us enjoy this rare moment.

  • man u get this sound from only 5 band members? the real deal

  • Awesome , but these guys should be smiling more!

  • 4:39 I love when musicians can do this sort of shit. A chord sounds weird, and they tune in the middle of a song. I'm a drummer, so I honestly don't know what A, B, or C or anything is.

  • @Who2Are1You well i'm a drummer and i have perfect pitch XD

  • They have done an Album with Joe Cocker during that times, I just remember.

Really great sounding musicians here -

    Thank you

  • Goosebumps, they're so good.

  • gadd is the blackest white drummer :)

  • @bradiporitmico oh you cant forget ginger baker to the list :).

  • @bradiporitmico I thought the goal was to be the best drummer you can be, not the blackest drummer you can be.

  • @bradiporitmico That's the dummest thing I've read or heard this year.

  • @bradiporitmico Or the other dudes are the whitest black musicians.

  • @bradiporitmico in my opinion dave garibaldi have more black-groove than Steve Gadd!

  • they play as if they are jamming in their living room. thats just so cool

  • Wasn't Stuff the first house band for SNL?

  • Yes young ones this is what music is all about, has to have heart, soul, whatever you want to call it; in other words needs to have feeling and that feeling has to come through to whoever is listening.

In my opinion "music" took a drastic down turn in the ninety's and except for the odd gem that once in a while is produced, there is nothing worth listening to presently on the airwaves, or worth buying (unless it is the "OLD STUFF").

So for the sake of the rest humanity get back to MUSIC.

  • @dolken2

The airwaves have hardly ever been a true measure of the real music that a generation is producing. So these "young ones" comments are asinine and silly. There are musicians all over the place that are right there with these guys- some of them playing the same kinds of music, some not. Popular music may have taken a drastic down turn, but "music" hasn't gone anywhere. There have always been real players and pretenders and learning to separate the two is the true test of a listener.

  • that addidas shoe tappin is soo awesome.

  • こういうのをマジックっていうんだろうなー

  • . . .STUFF the one you're with !

  • Damn this gets into your soul.

  • CRISP

  • thank you

  • Richard Tee RIP. The players here comprise the core of Paul Simon's One Trick Pony band. Its all good.

  • If you are a guitar player and you want to see how to play with another guitar player all you need to do is watch this video. Wow! so impressive. This whole band defines groove.

  • Why is there only one drummer? What happened to Chris Parker?

  • This is beacuase these dudes have talent and musicianship plain and simple.

  • want this live shows AGAIIIIIIIN!!!!!!!!

  • This is music!

  • Freakin' hell!

Gadzooks alive! I was playin' this Stuff on my local jazz station back in the 70's. Back then I would ambush jazz enthusiasts with this little known band of studio musicians. I had NO idea people still listened to these great grooves! And 73k views!

WOOT! Live it up my friends, this was one of the best funk/jazz bands of all time.

  • 2;17 dig the adidas

  • I was at Montreux in 76 to see and hear this. A great evening followed by the Crusaders.

  • truly tasty music., thanks for posting this. Band sounds so good- Masters of the craft!

  • 2:51 so simple, yet so into the groove. There will never be another gadd.

  • . . .this song is called 'FOOTS'; from their inaugural LP/CD !

  • very cool....great groove....

  • 1:44 The face of excitement and joy.

  • Gotta love Eric Gale, though.

  • @labanx : LOL!! No shit, that guy looks so pissed and/or bored.

  • At first, I was like...

Whoa! This music, from start to finish, [one verb].

    But then I was like...

WTF?Is it the producer giving bad directions to the cameramen? No?! This is bits and pieces?!

    But then I was like...

    OMG! The music is perfect.

  • hey there is jimihendrix playing telecaster :D

  • LITTLE ME, BIG TEAM!!

  • いやぁ、カッコ良すぎですねぁ。

  • Groove all the way through, nothing better, Thanks for posting.

  • whats up with the footage at 4:03 not being correct? Steve Gadd is clearly doing snare and hi-hat work when you're hearing the ride cymbal groove...? anybody notice that?

  • Weird. The rest of the track locks up so nicely with the video, but I guess it's not the live sound track. (Or at least, definitely not -all- the live audio track!)

  • @speedngheadphone

maybe an open hihat without 'woosh'...

  • Looks like they just cut in a long shot at that point.

  • Fuckin unbelievable music!!!

  • HOT!

  • None of these musicians are doing anything really difficult, but everything just sounds so amazing when it's put together.

    Love this song.

  • @AkiThePirate yeah like i guess

  • Don't forget Cornell Dupree on the other guitar (Fender Telecaster) besides Eric Gale!!

  • can I get this on DVD?

  • Yes.

  • Always wondered what Gordon Edwards looked like. Glad to see this...which obviously was filmed at Montreaux. Plain and simple...this FUNK...GUTBUCKET FUNK. No wonder Joe Cocker had these guys as his backing band around the same time this was filmed

  • Remember the legendary 2nd year episode of SNL when Belushi mimicked Joe Cocker doing "You Are So Beautiful"? guess who the band for that episode was...

  • Don't remember that episode, but we DID videotape the episode with Cocker AND Belushi doing "Feelin' All Right" backed by Stuff! GREAT CLIP!

  • where could one look at this clip?

  • joe cocker didn't think it was all that funny.

  • Sounds great.

  • This is nice, i like what im hearing.

  • saw them at my fathers place, with gadd and parker together a couple of times. AWESOME!!!!

  • WHAT??? WHO ARE YOU LUCKY?

  • AAAAHAHAA!! !! STanky!

  • しかし・・・演奏も音も超すばらしいけど

    このギター二人・・・もうちとなかよさそうにできないんかなwww

  • I love this band and I miss Mr Tee soo.

Thanks for posting this lovely vid fore us to look at

  • Lus,

Quoi qu'on en dise, j'adore le style d' Eric Gale.

Inimitable. Là il était un peu "cool". J'aime ce gars.

  • STUFF is the most feel-good band i ever heard, an' i been around a long time!

  • i felt the same way the first time i watched these videos, im only 20 and music is not played like this anymore. it has feeling and soul.

  • I agree!

  • @Stumprrp I grew up with this type of great music.

I haven't been able to add really anything to my music collection in the last 25 years. A few albums here and there, but not the years 1973 to around 1985.

Today, there isn't even a radio station I can play. And I hate American Idol, of course, and totally despise MTV.

  • @Stumprrp

it is played like this still. you just have to look harder.

  • what the fcuk? he just said STEVEN GADD!!!! lol

  • Can anyone please tell me the name of the group? or the name of the song? or if there is any album or cd of this group??

    Thank you very much!!

  • the group is called stuff

  • This show is available from amazon on dvd or cd. I highly recommend it

  • The song is called "Foots." It is available on several Stuff CDs.

  • ..finally it stays flat!

this has nothing to do with "classical music!"

    Sorry for my comment!
