@povilasbacevicius -im a big fan of mickey r, but i wonder if he plans on more surgery to play a guy not whos 37 and looks younger but the guy in his mid 20s durin rugby years,,,,mickey i believe is 59 but with the very best of make up would only at the least pass for 47+,,,,,plus more agreeing with you i think this will take a toll on his body,,,,,hope he does well tho
Poor choice. I know make up and lighting can do wonders, but Rourke doesn't even look good for his age. (look at that neck) How can he convincingly play a man more than twenty years younger?
I loved Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler. Unfortunately, I personally think that he should not play Gareth Thomas. I think that he should invest in the project, but the role (especially, because the story is so ground breaking) should be played by someone else. The accent. The demanding rugby playing. That is who Thomas is. I am not even a rugby fan. However, since I learned about Mr. Thomas' story. I have the utmost respect for him. It would be a pity if it is not done properly. Sorry, Mickey.
don't get me wrong I love mickey but im worried because next year he's gonna be 60 year old and he keeps pushing himself physically he still smokes red malboros and this film is not even in production so maybe they gonna start pre-prodution in 2012-13 so during the release of this film mickey gonna be in his early 60s it doesn't sound realistic
@TheNigerianScammer with all due respect to MR - but nothing upon this earth could make him look like GT - Statham has that rugby look - if Rourke is looking for Oscar material then perhaps he should go for Oscar Wild instead -
Jason would act like he does in all his other roles. He is good at what he does, but this film will have emotional elements and jason cant pull that off.
@TheNigerianScammer am a big fan of MR - Angle Heart is a stunning movie - kinda forgotten now - sos anyways sur d proof is in d pudding & well see how Rourke get on with this - happy days
@anthonynewsome very true, but jason statham would only be good because he looks like thomas and could play rugby really well because of his physical fitness, but he's not a serious actor like Rourke, he's an action guy, but I think the idea of the film will be portraying Thomas' personal life and his struggle, which Rourke could pull off. Should be interesting to see Rourke doing a Welsh accent though :P
@ajm6665 There is an english actor - Tom Hardy - unsure if you know of him - but he would be perfect as Gareth - he has the acting skills also - did you see him in the movie Bronson he really transformed his looks - as I said if this was 20 years ago I'd be saying YES to MR playing GT - but I honestly dont see him being able now -
@anthonynewsome Tom Hardy would be a great choice! I can easily see him being Thomas. I expect they'll bring in a younger and fitter actor to portray Thomas in his early days playing rugby, and use Rourke for the more serious and personal scenes, alot of work needs to be done but you never know if done to perfection this could good,...
@ajm6665 is GT writing a biog would love to read it - he's amazing - regardless of what the movie turns into I will get it on dvd anyways - GT has been a hero for many many years now - sur we'll stay tuned and see what happens - regards & peace
@ajm6665 yes, Jason Statham cant act his way out of paper bag. He's a very limited actor and lacks the talent to play this role. Plus, he's only 5'9" which I dont think ppl realise. The emphasis is on the emotional dimension of it - that is what GT wants. If you're telling a story, ultimately it doesnt really matter what the actor looks like - its about the story. the actors that participate do not have to look like the ppl theyre playing. I am not crazy about Micky Rourke but hey...
