A big problem, or at least rumour was Max Wright, who played Willie in the original series. Apparently he was unhappy that ALF was the star and on the last day he didn't even say goodbye to anyone, including the kid actors...I always found it strange how the series abrupted so suddenly after being very successful for 3 of the 4 seasons. It was also apparently a very high maintenence show with the puppet as ALF
I own all 4 seasons of ALF on dvd. I just barely found out they made this movie last year. I loved it. Is it on dvd? I didn't like how the last episode ended and this makes up for it a hundred times over. But the Tanners aren't in this. That sucks. Thumbs up the Tanners should have been in this.
thank you for this! the first part of this movie is sooooo funny! I never really appreciated alf until this. the copy I have is very old and on vhs so thanks a lot!
@thatamazinggeek since there was a contractual obligation to finish the story, they tossed a cheezy story together to finish it out with none of the regular characters and just the puppet.
@thatamazinggeek -- from reading some history, they had a contract to complete the story which is why they made this movie. Benji Gregory said he was glad it ended cuz he didn't want to do it anymore, Andrea Elson married one of the crew so was probably also ready t move on, Max Wright seemed to have issues playing a role against a puppet and not sure of Ann Schedeen. With all this information, I can only naturally assume none of them wanted to be in this movie but ......
They actually could still fix this, by having an ALF reunion TV movie, much they have done with other shows. Bring back the cast, and have Alf come home to Willie. Let him remember the Tanners. I could have written a much better script than this. All they needed to have was Willie in this, and say that he made all that up, to make them think they were gone. I would have liked a final tender moment with the Tanners. Whoevers idea to make this movie, and not have him reunite with the Tanners..wow
@Dusto22 all the actors hated eachother at the time i think. i think max wright really didnt like the show and i think he probably was regretting ever being a part of it. what a moron, i never have seen him in anything else. he should of made the most of ALF, as bad as this show is, i cant stop watching it. also, does anyone else findit weird without that horrible laugh track???
@Dusto22 lol yeah the audience in the background lol. there was no audience, probably the worst use of a taped laughtrack in the history of tv. if u watch the show without the laugh track it might actually be funny, but it ruined the timing of most of the jokes on the show, which in many ways makes the show funnier. but only if you are into laughing at failed attempts at something. btw ive prob watched every episode im not tryin to trash the show at all. it was what it was
You'd think that now he's an Ambassador for his kind on Earth (Yes, I did spoil the end of the movie) you'd think he'd now be able to contact his fellow Melmacians so he can, you know, be happy in seeing his friends?
I remember watching this when I was younger but I've never seen it anywhere since then. I also loved the movie "Murder She Purred: A Mrs. Murphy Mystery" but I've never seen it again either.
P.S. I think I remember seeing the actor & actress that help Alf out on "Home Improvement". I wonder if they're husband & wife.
I think it was screwed the way the writers left Alf stranded for years in a government research facility. Why couldn't they just have let him go with his friends in the last series episode? That always really irritated me...
the series was suppose to have one more special episode to resolve the cliffhanger but it never got made. This movie was made years later to compensate for that. I heard that Willy was suppose to appear in the movie but they cut that one scene...
actually the writers didnt have nothing to do with it. NBC decided not to air it or to have it even exist. Unfortunetly also the remaining actors of the show were still under contract and couldnt be in the movie version. So thank NBC for that. Not that it should be surprising at this point.
This movie picks up where the final season of Alf left off. I always wonder what the hell happen to Alf when the Alien task Force team caught him at the end, but they never showed what happened until I learned that that was the final episode of alf and they had made this movie to show what happen to poor Alf.
Yeah, seriously, the whole thing was such a massive cliffhanger. They got Alf... but then what? Did they dissect him? Or did they change their minds about that and realize they can just talk to him (let's face it, a lot of those tests would have outright killed him, and there's only one of him around. He just wasn't expendable). It killed me.
@Hotshotter3000 Seems like they could have eneded it very well, with a 2 parter. " Consider Me Gone" was good AS A FIRST PART!!! A second part of Willie getting ALF out of the Alien task force, and THEN moving the family into a unknown location would have been a nice way to end it. It would have shown how family goes through whatever to help one another.
Iceland-that's the kind of place Greenland's name is supposed mean: lush in green and wonderful weather (cold though) The Tanner's are fine in Iceland; Al Gore hasn't even released "The Inconveniant Truth" yet.
Everything ends one way or another either by series finales or cancellations. It's inevitable however in cases like this series where they had ideas for proper final episodes why can't the networks in the US just be merciful and let them end the right way? I mean in other countries if a show gets canned at least the producers are given time to write a proper ending to the series and if it goes on for another 3 or 10 episode then the channel let's them but not here in the US. YOUR DONE, YOUR OUT!
@Darksidehearts I disagree! The majority of great tv shows DO get proper sendoffs.
Heck, I'll give you a recent example: King of the Hill!
A long running animated sitcom, ran for 13 funny and heartwarming years, then got canceled bu FOX! BUT.......the fans wanted the show to have a true ending, and Fox rectified that with a two-episode finally before the start of the '09-10 season.
@SuperGamer7 Well that is true in some cases, including what you noted. I'm just saying that I wish that were the case for other great shows. Look at some of today's television, after the first episode a show might be up for the chopping block. How is that a fair estimate of how a series will be? The first season is to get you the viewer familiar with the shows world and how it's run, no one has ever done anything perfect the first time without a little practice right?
i really think 80/90's show should still continue? what we have today? Prison Break? only 1st season is good. Lost? oh please. its boring. i do like "24" however.
But damn, ALF, Friends, MacGyver, X Files... i love late 80's/early 90's...
Well if you think about it KaosKontroler, we eat animals all the time. [Vegetarians not excluded, plants live too sorta]. It's more of a matter of instinct or survival in some cases. We all need to eat. Truthfully we rely more on water than food but we do require nourishment one way or another.
Watchin the voltage footage I was scared for ALF. Typical military they can't control something so they destroy it. ALF is pretty much harmless and they want to kill him?
YAY!!!!!! I KNEW THERE HAD TO BE MORE AND THIS IS IT!!!1 I recently got ALF Seasons 1-4 on DVD and I recently watched the last episode and I was so sad and I was dissapointed!! I didn't know there was a movie!!!!!!! NOW I KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT!!! YAY!!! THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS. I AM SO GRATEFUL!!!
Yep. Now, don't you think ALF is just too good? Shouldn't he come back for more fun? Every year, it seems I say that. But I think ALF ended prematurely. I like that they made this movie to recap the end of the series, but I can't help thinking there's more to tell.
they should have made this movie a dream alf had about what he is told will happen to him and in the end puting a scene where alf wakes up telling willy it was a nightmare because he had a job in the end
@ALFfan1 Thank you. In fact, they should have had Willie get him out of there, and then move the family away somewhere to get away from all of the government. hated tIt would have showed how Willie, while he despised Alf, really did love him as a member of the family. I also can't see Willie testifying AGAINST Alf, and the whole witness prtection thing was pathetic

Everything ends one way or another either by series finales or cancellations. It's inevitable however in cases like this series where they had ideas for proper final episodes why can't the networks in the US just be merciful and let them end the right way?
