Although he may have meant it as a compliment, I admit that it can be taken badly also, especially for people who aren't really paying attention and just see the words "bad" and "ass".

Admittedly, it would also be harder to understand if you weren't fluent/used to the English slang. And they could've made it easier to understand for others by saying like.. "Hide was bad ass. Totally rockin' music." or something, yah?
