  • Wow, what faces and what music. Since I'm kind of remembering the passing of Carole Lombard this month, this was a real treat! Thanks

  • If Hollywood Forever, Westwood, and all them were smart they'd have this video playing on a continuous loop on flat screen TVs all over their memorial parks.... Bravo.

  • 7:20 there is a name missing between jean harlow and joan crawford/dana andrews.

  • thank you for beginning with anna mae wong, and for ending with that great pic of young stanwyck.

gene tierney is of another period...

leslie howard is totally my type but I always fall for the gilbert roland type. LOL

    --

the music creates quite a mood, it almost makes me believe these people were more important, more interesting than everyday people. reminds me of mahler's adagietto.

  • great video , thanks

  • This was absolutely gorgeous, beautiful, wonderfully exhibiting the precious actors & actresses of the Golden Age of Hollywood...I am just beginning my site and I am dedicated it to that wonderful era! I can appreciate what you have done in this video and the pain staking task it must have took you to put it all together. I know how time consuming it must have been however once you were done....Well there it stands your masterpiece! Thank you very much, Kathleen

  • And this music!! I absolutely love John Barry's scores!!!!!!

  • What a great line up of old-time actors and actresses. I was sitting here and wondering if even one of them is still living. I couldn't think of any that are.

  • This was a time when elegance and class was the norm! morality was strictly

enforced socially. True talent was exspected of a actor or actress, and the fashions

were totally beautiful with great lines and becoming colors. This era may never be

    again.

  • Very lovely video. Thanx for posting. Thanx for sharing Maya. :-))

  • This is very well done. I love John Barry's music and this music is especially poignant as he lost both his mother and father while he was composing it for the motion pic "Somewhere In Time." You are moved emotionally by his work. Thank you for sharing your word.

  • They don't make them like this anymore...not the movies or the stars...and this video is a wonderful tribute, also excellent, set to my favorite music of all time! I love it!

  • Fabulous.

  • Romantic & Beautiful Upload "Irwin"...Thank you so much !!

This is a Special Dedication for 2 Wonderful, Beautiful Friends of The 4Romantics..

  • @Clof1959 My dearest 4Romantics....

Thanks for sharing this impressive video with me. This video is a great dedication to your friends Judie & Gabi, but alo a great dedication to the Hollywood Stars shown.

Imagine how much pleasure and entertainment they gave us in all their movies. And still do. God bless them.

    Dearest four, have wonderful days.

    Love, hugs and a kiss.

    Mannes.

  • Thank you, Irwin, for such a moving tribute to the greatest actors &

actresses from the "Golden Age" of Hollywood! Special thanks for

your listing (in order of appearance) their names! So helped me

to recall those few I wasn't too sure of!

Again - one of the greatest video tributes *ever* along with

    the most beautiful music! Bravissimo!

  • - the choice of music is beautiful -

  • Is that Lana Turner at 4:17? I had never seen that photo --- it was a very young Lana if it's her. This video is very well made, but it made me sad. These were before my time but I've always been an hollywood glamour films fanatic. The essense of romance was so wonderful from that time. Thank God for whoever was smart enough to develop film making.

  • @Bombeni : Yes, that is Lana Turner @ 4:17.

  • i love this so much

  • i love this so much

  • Hi Irwin1021, Came across this while browsing, it's so powerful, the stunning images and heavenly soundtrack.. memories of a long gone age...I'm truly touched by the array of beautiful yet fallible people, and wonder what they were thinking as the camera immemorialised their tender captivating images. Superb piece of work, I'm addicted and cannot get through a day without this. Is there an antidote?

  • 本当にすばらしいの一語につきます!thanks so much!!!

  • This is very touching and a fond remembrance of a wonderful time.

  • This was so beautiful that I wanted to share it with everyone. Too bad you did not list any of the names of the actors. Most of the younger people who I showed it to had no idea who they were looking at. Also I love the way some of the old pictures were colored! Amazing. Where did u find those???

  • @skie763

Thank you so much for your comment.

If you will go back and look for Irwin 1021 (highlighted in blue) you will notice an image of two short marks in a box. Next to the number of views. Click on that and you will see all the names of the actors in order of appearance. I've spent the last three years collecting images and I am planning a second part to 'Somewhere in Time" Also many new slideshows coming soon. Thanks again!

  • good job, Id like to know if you can make one similar with mexicans actors and actreses

  • @FCOHERTZ

Thank you. That's a great idea. Please give me some time, I would like to do that.

I''m working on a number of video projects that i hope to put up soon. -Irwin

  • "We didn't need dialogue. We had faces!" Norma Desmond, Sunset Blvd.

  • @Gracie0935

    So true Gracie, Thanks

  • irwin1021: Quite possibly the *greatest* & most profound video EVER

of those moviestar greats from the 'Golden Age' of Hollywood! Incomparable!

And - to accompany this eloquent montage with J.Barry's "A Day Together'

from "Somewhere In Time" (Rachmaninov's great etude) totally

    completes this tribute!

What an extraordinary trip back in time!!! Thank you!

  • @dia33386

Thank you Dia, That was such a nice comment.

  • I really enjoy watching this video.Great work.

  • @HowardWiggins3

Thank you, Howard. You are most kind.

  • The memories connected and the world as we want to remember it, comes flooding in...and leaves my face wet with fond tears of how we lived and the dreams we dreamed even as we watched these "stars," weave their magic through our lives. You are a master artist and understand the very soul of love and its mystery. Thank you Irwin 1021

  • Could this be any more beautiful? Bravo!

  • This was a sublime mix of wonderful pictures married to the perfect music. What a wonderful video! Some videos of 10+ minutes seem like thy're 30 minutes long, while this one had me hooked, and it only seemed a couple of minutes then it was done! Beautiful work!

  • @TNviewer01 Thank You very much for your comment. That was very kind.

I hope to add some more in the near future.

  • Yes, prunellapussywuggums is right about how much these actors were absolutely incredible, but I am with the masses- having an award concept would make us all have to think 'compete'. Uhg!

  • Wonderful clip. Isn't Lauren Bacall out of context? She's the only one still alive.

  • Thank You. Actually, Lauren Bacall is not out of context. I was paying tribute to a group of actors during the period of the 1920's -1940's . She was a part of that group. She fortunately outlived everyone else, of course she was very young when she starred in her first movie.

  • I commented 3 months ago but have changed my opinion. Not: beautiful people-beautiful music. Rather: TRANSCENDENT BEINGS TRANSPORTED BY TRANSCENDENT MUSIC. Why hasn't youtube created an Award concept yet?

  • Thank You.I appreciate your lovely compliment. I'm touched at your response. They were indeed very special people.

  • Thank you for bringing some class to Youtube. I appreciate what you have done. Very artistic. Thankyou again, most kindly xxx

  • beautiful people-beautiful music. You chose a fabulous background for your montage. Kudos to you 5*****

  • this was sublime

    a symphony of Hollywood greatness

    so many divine pictures

you had everyone i love except Hepburn and Tracy

Marlene, Joan, Garbo, Hedy, Bette, Leslie oward, Gable, Cooper, all of em

    excellent 5 stars

  • Nice music. Great tribute!

    --------Ellen

  • John Barry's soundtrack is just incredible. It's difficult to express in words how profound his music is - it's like his heart is able to bypass brain, hand and pen and leap straight on to the score sheet - superb!

  • Stunning photographs. Thank you for posting. They are all so centered.

  • I recognized many - esp. those from my youth - but having their names on the pix would have been appreciated.

Cudos on music selection! It really added to the theme.

  • Thanks! Check under "info." They are all listed in order.

  • lush

  • probably the most beautiful piece on youtube i will ever hear, amazing and the film x

  • you have beautiful pics of joan crawford i love her!

  • Wondeful video.....but the names of the stars should have been listed on the pictures..

  • Check under "more info." The names are listed in order. Hope this helps. Thanks for your comment.

  • Oh, that glimpse of Gilbert Roland made my week! Thank you for such a beautiful post; all of the photographs were wonderful.

  • Beautiful!

  • Thanks

Seeing this makes me wish even harder that I was born 50 years earlier than I was - God I wish I coulda met Frances Farmer and Viv Leigh - the loveliest of the most beautiful!!!

  • no grace kelly? :-(

  • I am a Grace Kelly fan. I did not include her in this video since I was paying tribute to the stars of the 1930's and the 1940's.

I am working on a video of stars from the 1950's, and the lovely Grace Kelly will certainly be included . Stay tuned as they used to say on TV.

  • Ah, OK. Can't wait for the next one. This is a great video, by the way!

  • Old Hollywoodis my passion, this is so beautifully done, really, and your collection of photographs is beyond superb, thank you for sharing adn for putting together is lovely, lovely tribute to the wonderful HOllywood stars from a time when the streets of Hollywood were truly paved with gold

  • Thank you for the kind comment. we are so lucky that there are so many lovely photographs of these stars to look at when we are not watching and enjoying the great movies they made.

    Paved with Gold indeed!

  • This planet eats people up and buries them. The only thing that makes sense is our enjoyment of life. A lot of the people who have given me pleasure in this life are already buried.

  • True, but we have their movies that live on as Art, the same way that Art lives on in museums. Thanks for your comment.

  • You're welcome. Beautiful photographs.

  • thank you..great memories of Lombard and Tierney.

  • Thank You. Both women you mentioned where great stars and great beauties. Both also made so many good movies that hold up well.

  • Hello Irwin, sending you love from the city by the bay san francisco. This is the love of my being, the most beautiful. Thank you for sharing. Great job!

  • Thanks San Francisco. I appreciate your comment.

  • Sensational piece of work. Congratulations on this beautiful job

  • This soundtrack has to be the closest thing to heaven if listened to in context, sunset on a beach, montage is amazing, thanks for putting this up.

  • There are two love melodies performed in movies that really touch me. One is the love theme of Cinema Paradiso, from great Ennio Morricone.

And the other is this trully masterpiece.

Of course theres a lot of pretty songs... but the intensity of these two... the armhony... really always make me sigh

  • Thank you irwin1021:) This is a wonderful video; some of the images I've never seen before & I usually pride myself on having seen most of them. The music fits so perfectly also!!

  • this is BRILLIANT! THERE'S NOT BETTER WORD FOR IT! I LOVE THIS MUSIC TOO...it really means a lot to me, thanks for posting this. i think i'm gonna cry--and it takes A LOT to make me cry...

  • Amazing, Thank you for making this!

  • beautiful pictures. I especially liked the Johnny Weismuller Maureen O'sullivan

  • Thank you, a beautiful tribute.

  • such a beautiful montage

    seen it many times

these faces are gone and many will fill

    them for a short time

but that is the way of the world

  • Beautiful people and beautiful music, thanks for a lovely ten minutes

  • Thank you for your comment. I'm glad you enjoyed it, they were indeed beautiful people!

  • You have taste sir. That music combined with those photos of the truly great stars of long ago I found very moving. Well done. Thank you

  • Thank you so much for your comment. They were truly great stars. Not only in their screen presence, but in there great ability to sustain decades of performances that left us wanting more. Thanks again!

  • georgeous, powerful, paralizing and priceless...need a tutorial on about 25% of them though (tee hee).i find these gems by mistake. tgfutube

  • Thank you for your comment. So many of these beautiful faces have created so many fine movies and performances. There was exceptional talent behind these extraordinary faces. I'm glad you enjoyed it. Thanks again!

  • Thanks for the Information Irwin!

  • Why doesn't someone post the names of these actors when making this video?

I know some of the actors but not all of them?

    Not fair.

    Please post their names!

  • Actually the names of all the actors are listed in order of appearance. Go to the section that reads in blue irwin1021, below that you will find the phrase About This Video. In that area you will find the list of actors, as they appear, and the composer of the music. You're right it would not have been fair to leave the names out, but now you know where to look for them. Hope you enjoyed the video.

  • Your welcome...irwin1021

  • Thank you irwin1021...

I have seen "Somewhere In Time" and it is truly one of my favourites.

And to also thank you for this beautiful video, touched my heart!

  • Lovely! I have a lump in my throat and tears in my eyes, beautiful...I like very much the song could you please tell me the name so I can go out and buy the CD...Thank You!!!

  • Thank You molly, The composer is John Barry, from his soundtrack to the great movie Somewhere in Time. It is available on CD. It's my favorite soundtrack music. The music is so touching. I'm glad your response matches my intent when I thought this slideshow needed a special sound.

  • Anyone who ever experienced a profound true love--and sadly might have lost it--will recognize how this music captures the exquiste beauty, joy and pain of that love. How the memories linger and return to haunt.

  • I agree with you, it's odd how profoundly moving this music is. It seems to me fitting for occasions both sad and those filled with deep happiness. Thank you for your touching response.

  • I started to watch it because it said that Jeanette MacDonald was in it. I continued to watch it because it is totally captivating. The music(absolutely beautiful)and the images have been so perfectly matched. You must have spent countless hours creating it, and those of us who watch it are in your debt. Thank you so much.

  • Thank you for your kid words. It did indeed take many, many hours, but it was a pleasure all the way. I am planning a second part, however it will take awhile because I'm also working on a few others.

  • Sorry, That was thank you for your kind words.

  • An amazing job, Irwin. Your aesthetic sensibility shines through in this monumental undertaking. Thank you.

  • Irwin one of the best, absolutely love the music compelation and the movie greats

  • A great compilation...and the music is mesmerizng..I didn't want it to end!

p.s. The photo of Tyrone Power and Loretta Young is the cover picture on Jeanine Basinger's new book, "The Star Machine." It's THE perfect shot.

  • What a mysterious and loving work! A profound and moving experience. Inspiring, simple, and deep.

  • Amazing...I was captivated by this song when I first heard it..so much so i went out and bought the cd....The simplicity of the pictures that flash before us as this song places is so wonderfully done...Totally mesmerizing for me...Thank You!

  • All I can say is "bravo"!

  • Thank you very much for your kind comment!

  • just prove - it has not gone with the wind -)) this is a wonder-full slide show.

  • I changed my setting. Try it again. Thanks for your comment.I do not know what clipmarks activity is please explain (new to the You tube world ) don't have the jargon down. Thanks again

  • wow!!! that's allot of work and time . . . it shows!!!!

I really emjoyed you video . . .your good taste and you presentation made this video absolutely wonderful!

  • Just wrote a comment back but guess I did not press the right button. Thank you very much for your kind comment.I recently put up a Romy Schneider video and am working on two others. It is great fun but very time consuming finding the image that means something to you, plus finding it in good condition and of course marrying it to the music that best suits the images and the artist chosen.

  • irwin1021, WOW!! you did an excellent job with this video, thanks for all the great pictures. I wish all the actors and actresses in those pictures were still here, they're "The Great Ones." I love to hear that song played by a full orchestra. To me it's one of the best musical scores written for a movie in a long time.

  • This was truly lovely. Your choice of music was perfect. I try not to cry when I hear it... but after seeing your lovely photos... I couldn't help it! Look forward to seeing more of your videos.

  • Thank You for your kind comment.I'm touched that it moved you. I'm working on others and hope to have them up soon. I am trying to figure out why it flutters when it did not when I was working on it. I don't have that much technical know how. I am also trying to figure out how to post the best quality reproduction. Still learning.

  • Wow I loved this. Great music.

  • Thank You! After trying dozens of songs from the period, John Barry's music seemed to be the exact mood I was looking for.

  • I wish they were here, to tell them how much they mean to me, specially my lovely Carole Lombard and the King of Hollywood, Mr. Gable, I love them and Vivien Leigh for she was so great and she made the most beautiful movie ever, thank you for remembering these people, nobody else could be compared to them, nobody! Those were the most beautiful years!

  • Thank You! They always will be here, We have their movies to keep them alive.

  • I've always loved that music by John Williams. One of my favourite's ever. Wonderful slides show !

  • Thank you very much!

  • Moving tribute for all Great and UNFORGETTABLE
