Consider that if they DO get popular they can live entirely off of the band and thus can make more music. Which really has no downside at all other than you not being able to claim you listen to a band that no one has heard of.

@tetsuyayamatashi The downside to them going "mainstream" is when an artist accepts major amounts of corporate money, those executives take a lot of creative control in order to ensure the band doesn't go off in some direction that will lose the corpo money. Once they start selling out they cease to be the same dudes writing the songs you love and they become just a couple of hired hands to write the music business's songs. Major labels like to play it safe by killing creativity and innovation.
