The singer sings clear and I like the tone of his voice. Some times the choirs sound nice but you can't understand what they say. I'm Catholic, but I like to sing with some people that aren't in a rest home.
They were asking me for this song. Now we will sing it together.
@jsquared1313 Wow, how can you tell it's a Peragallo? :-) This one is 3-manuals, 42 stops with 35 ranks. It was originally a Ruben-Midmer & Sons, and was expanded by Peragallo in the 80's.
Absolutely terrible. As a Catholic, I have to say that this music a Catholic church. Nowhere else is the quality this bad..."Sending Forth Hymn"!? Have you no sense of the divine or solemn? Really, the zimbelstern...
I think the point is all denominations have their own version. What is odd is "Christian" or not I do not particularly enjoy the division of the sects. I experience the slight hymn changes in my own parish. How about let's play it and sing it like the original composer. Would you change a J.S. Bach piece? I think not.
@CCFHymns Brethren?? Wow, what hymnal book are you using? I was using a red GIA Worship III hymnal, which reads "Come, Christians, follow where the Master trod."
@adobosazon I use the New English Hymnal and Hymns Ancient and Modern, they both say "come, brethren, follow where our Captain trod". I've never seen anything different, but perhaps that's because I'm English (!).
@adobosazon Both are valid. I think the first version included "brethren" and "captain" but these were removed to make it less sexist and martial-sounding.
I'm not sure what you mean. Do you mean the words are wrong? Pitch is off-key? Each word starts slightly off from how I am playing it? Please elaborate.
I think she means the lyrics you are singing are different, because when I look in my hymnal, the words are: "Led on there way by this triumphant sign the hosts of God in conquering ranks combine." Is the 1st verse in my hymnal, and I don't have the "Come, Christians..." verse in my book.
lilacprincess00 - Some hymnals/missals have different wording used in them. They aren't all the same.
@adobosazon I never heard verse #2. In the Episcopal church, they do not sing that one. They sing the first verse, then they go to "Led on their way by this triumphant sign"
I was completely unaware that they sang this song in RC churches. I thought that it was a Protestant hymn. Of course, the Episc church is both catholic as well as Protestant. As for me, I'm Cathepis (originally a RC who converted). Tehehe
Thanks! The swell department on our organ is above and so is the great organ. The choir organ is below. The 32' open wood is at the back along with the others! Ours is eumatic action ( sorry if not spelt right!) and fully wind. It had 4 pistons and offers a large sound as it echoes! God bless
Thanks! To answer your question below, it is not tracker-action, it's actually electronic (the console I mean). There are real pipes, and pretty responsive... but part of the problem is the location. The pipes are actually located in the front of the church, and I am in the front, too. The pipes are behind me and up on a loft, so the sound that makes it back to me is probably the sound that bounces off the back of the church and back to the front again.
Is it me or does this organ take a long time to respond to a key pressed. Is it dusty inside? Is it heavy to play? If its a tracker (correct me if I am wrong.)
Not recently at all. It was a bit smaller up until 1983 (I think) when it was expanded and a new console installed. Nowadays, a local organ company comes to tune 4 times a year and fix any issues with out of tune pipes, dead notes, or problems with the console electronics.
This seems like a nice little hymn for a recessional on Palm Sunday. But, our cantor likes to leave us on a sad note at the end of mass and we sing "Jesus Remember Me, When You Come into your Kingdom. Jesus Remember Me, When You Come into Your Kingdom."
Actually, the words are perfect for the processional on Holy Thursday. Look at the words from the Introit for Holy Thursday: "We ought to glory in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ: in whom is our salvation, life, and resurrection: by whom we have been saved and delivered." Pretty good, huh?
It's actually better, adobosazon, when a Male is a cantor, because most of our cantors at my church are women, and when they sing High D or High E on the Treble Clef, it isn't a pretty sound and gets very distracting, and makes you want to laugh. Your voice is 1000x better.
I am an ELCA Lutheran from South Carolina. I play the piano and organ. This past Sunday (August 31), we sang this as our closing hymn. It is #660 in Evangelical Lutheran Worship in the Witness section. Just thought I'd share.
Lovely organ. Especially love the blaze of reeds at the end, and the big Hollywood Ending! And how nice to have gotten a round of applause. Glad folks stuck around to listen.
Was that a Zimbelstern you added at 1:00?! Are you playing the pedals? It's hard to tell in my tinny computer speakers.
What the hell are you talking about, "Hollywood Ending"? Nothing this beautiful, Christian, and traditional would ever exist in Hollywood. Those godless movie whores wouldn't know how to appreciate it if it came with an instruction manual on how to do so!
The expression "Hollywood Ending" has nothing to do with the City of Hollywood per se. It's a term in general use in the English Language to indicate a big, dramatic finish to something. "Godless Movie Whores?" A shame someone has such blistering hatred for a place he's probably never even been. Believe it or not, there are some fine people in Hollywood, and even a couple of "Beautiful Traditional Christians." Your judgmental, ignorant, narrow-mindedness is really very sad. I'll pray for you.
Thanks, it was a Zimbelstern I used for one of the refrains. I always find it a nice touch to add at the end of mass. Then I usually turn it up a notch as people are leaving for a big finish. I am using the pedals; I pull out the Bombarde 16 at the end as well.

I can tell its a Peragallo by the design of the stop tabs and the shape of the keys! (:

Thats a Peragallo by the looks of it.. how many ranks? My church has a 25 year old one, only 2man. 14 ranks

I love this song, thank you for posting it. I have been trying to learn it on piano, kinda a slow process...
I am courious as to why you don't siing the tenor line though? Why sing the melody an octave lower?

A great hymn.
But something has aroused my curiosity:
why do you play left hand and pedals in octave parallels?

"Come, Christians, follow where the Master trod"?
Surely it is "Come, brethren, where our Captain trod"!
