I am impressed with the quantity of Road trains. I thought they were rare on the roads. In England we have artics (single trailer) but we have a high number.
@chadberry75 Depending on which company and what you're carrying, the money is very good. The Australian Dollar has parity with the US dollar at the moment, and you can expect a minimum of $25-$30 an hour pulling B-doubles
@tarvey Butstill only half the capacity of these monsters. In some parts of Queensland, the Northern Territory and Western Australia, they allow up to four trailers. Three as a full sized, and four in smaller configurations
WOW I've noticed some Familiar Name Plates Kenworth, Mack & Western Star! But i'm thinkin' they must have Souped Up Caterpillar, Cummins, Detroit Diesel, & Mack Engines in order to Pull Real Heavy Stuff & Real Long Road Trains!
@Infloresence It varies depending on location but I think it is four. There are rules governing length but again it varies. A three trailer consist is around 53 metres.
Was the last truck going uphill on very steep hill? Or is there any other reason for going like 10km/h?
It seems that it would be easier and safer to transport those mining trucks on it's wheels, whole thing would be lighter... "Unless you need to get through a checkpoint..." hehehe
@mibars Last bit is a steep uphill grade. Just a guess but I'm thinking a few hundred k's on a bitumen road wouldn't do the tyres on the ore packs any good......and they would be a lot slower.
@mibars Firstly, the tyres on the mine dump trucks aren't designed for paved roads. Secondly they're limited to no more than 60km/h. A truck pulling one of these can get up to 80km/h, necessary because oversize loads have a dusk to dawn curfew. The bigger ones have escorts front and rear, as well as a dedicated police escort
@Rocketboy1950 there is the occasional cheeky bugger you see though he'll straighten out then back up with a dolly or 2 because he can...i saw a bloke with an AB triple reverse around a corner of the parking bay once, it looked similar to a wilmonts, but they dont have AB do they? just trains?
I love long vehicles, the sound and the sight - thought i was the only one! i must add though.... 8x4 is better! Ive seen long nose 8x4 too, not just argosy types
@nyyguitar3387 The law is the law, no matter how obvious it looks lol. Anything over 2.5 metres wide is required by law to have "OVERSIZE" signs front and rear, even if the reaction to them is "thankyou Captain Obvious."
@nyyguitar3387 i like when you see some massive shape coming down the straight at you with orange red and blue lights in front of it, then suddenly there is a load convoy of prime movers hooked up to it, those blokes are truly talented

@canthaguild thats the thing for what we cart around australia we have to cover such a wide open area, we have designed with help from people around the world to design such trucks and trailers to take such weight and when the brake it takes them for ever to stop so yeah its a slow process... haha but its the aussie way out here, and i cant wait till im driving them with dad in a few years time :) hah thought id let ya's know :D

@noxis93 That marks one end of an emergency airstrip. Air ambulances use the highways as landing strips in many remote regions. These strips are usually situated near small settlements and the police close the road for the emergency aircraft to land.
@noxis93 its actually a crossing for the indiginous people that ride emu's through the bush, I run an emu dealership and business has been booming ever since the G.F.C. hit, many people are seeing the benifits of emu riding.

@JRWILDY in the late 70's the mob I was driving for bought 4 scanias to run from the southern states to Darwin. (that was when a lot of the road from pt Augusta heading north was still dirt. shook the living shit out of the trucks. 2 months and they were rooted. they had the things rebuilt and put them on the melbourne to sydney run. as for the N.T. run, whent back to whites, macks and Kennies. Scania and volvo were shit.
One of the greatest joys of my childhood was being able to ride along with the road trains that brought nickel ore from Leinster down to the rail head at Leonora, in Western Australia (100 miles each way). I was 10 at the time. The truck was a White Road Boss with three trailers, sixteen axles (62 wheels). The road was dirt the whole way; empty, we could do about 45mph. Loaded, only about 30, tops (nickel is heavy). We'd start at 6am, get home at 9pm. And I got to steer! Great memories...
Hay Rocketboy1950. I have a Super8 movie of a road train departing Alice Springs in 1975, the days they were not restricted to length. From Memory 12 trailers.
@harriedog I was up there in 1975, pardon me if I dispute your claim. The biggest I ever saw was 4 and 1975 truck technology wasn't up to anything like 12.
Rocketboy you really don't have to waste your time talking to idiots who have nothing better to do than find fault with anything anybody else does......... I'm a trucker in England and compared to your road trains my truck is tiny.
I would love to see these road trains up close and video's like yours are the next best thing, so thank you very much for sharing it and keep up the good work mate.
@MrRob4386 Thanks mate but sometimes I just have to put them ( idiots) back in their box. I plan some more big truck videos in the next few months. The big stuff is a long way from where I live.
I find it interesting that these trailers seem to be only about 25-30 feet in length.... x 4 would be 120-135 feet in length... really not a huge difference from American trucks... if a long nose 379 with a double sleeper (some are up to 20 feet) pulled a pair of 28' trailers... you'd have about the same length...What's the big deal?
@Alrgc2Air The big deal is your incorrect estimations which are way out and that magic word "if". Your 20' sleeper with two x 28's is 76' which is just slightly short of 120'-135' and a lot less than the real 53 metres.
@Rocketboy1950 - 53 mtrs with/without rig? 3 ft =.91 mtr. 53 mtr = 144 ft. Deduct 14 mtrs (40 ft) for sleeper rig, 39 mtr (117 ft). Checking my math, the difference with doubles (6 mtrs) IS more than I thought, but not as much as you think.
Comparing apples to apples, some states here allow triples. If the truck I suggested had 3 28's, it would come to 41 mtrs. My point? 3-4 20' trailers are close to 2-3 28'. Road trains are cool, but not exclusive. Not a big deal, unless you actually drive it.
@Alrgc2Air Your not real flash with maths are you. 53 metres =173.88 feet. And "what if " again. If may aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. If you could do maths we could save ourselves the trouble of having this pointless exchange. We have B triples here but road trains are not articulated, they are stand alone trailers. IF you ever start running them over there get back to me. I won't be holding my breath.
@Rocketboy1950 - "maths"? LOL... First off, I am usually quite good with math... SAE to metric conversions I don't do so well with... My info is based on 3 ft = .91xx meter... Looking at these videos, the trailers (especially the tankers) appear to be much shorter than what is run with doubles and triples in the states.... And that is my point. You still fail to mention whether your 53 meters is with or without the road tractor.
@Alrgc2Air 53 metres is the total of a road train with three trailers, four trailers are a little harder to find but do run on the more remote roads. The purpose of this clip is that these are the biggest trucks in the world and whether that be by a margin of one inch or twenty one feet is irrelevant, they are the biggest. Now that might be a bit hard to swallow in a country that thinks it's the biggest and best at everything but suck it up. We also have the biggest trains. Discussion over.
kurwa jak jechały w kurzu ciężarówki to pokazał je całe nawet jak już przejechały za kamerę, a tych z olbrzymim ładunkiem co z eskortą jechały to nie pokazał całych...
LOL 2:15. 2 Fucking great dumper trucks on the back of those lorries... If you're retarded enough to need a sign on the front of them saying 'oversized load' then tbh, you deserve to be flattened...
@autophyte If this was in a populated area you would be correct. It isn't and these are the best and most efficient form of transport available under the circumstances. These tracks are the life blood of a great deal of the Australian outback.
@Rocketboy1950 theres a series of videos on youtube where a guy blends a bunch of random shit like iphones, glow sticks, and other random shit. and the catch phrase is "will it blend?" :P:P:P
YOU COULD HAVE BEEN KILLLED MAN.. thats dangerous as.. what if someone had come up and stabbed you in the neck while you were too busy recording these trucks.. HMMM?
@Shaunrattray Faaark I never thought of that. Thanks , from now on I'll stay home. I could have been killed last Friday too, just take a look at my latest videos and figure out where I was.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
A lot of truckies think they own the road & harrass motorist by sitting right on their bumper! if the speed limit is 100 or 110 & you're on my bumper, you're speeding!!! loonatics
It's kinda funny that those GIGANTIC ones have a little van behind them saying "oversized truck ahead". I realize they need them there for saftey laws and whatnot, but if you didn't notice the st

Hay Rocketboy1950. I have a Super8 movie of a road train departing Alice Springs in 1975, the days they were not restricted to length. From Memory 12 trailers.
harriedog 9 months ago
@harriedog I was up there in 1975, pardon me if I dispute your claim. The biggest I ever saw was 4 and 1975 truck technology wasn't up to anything like 12.

Great stuff mate, i look forward to seeing it.
MrRob4386 9 months ago
Rocketboy you really don't have to waste your time talking to idiots who have nothing better to do than find fault with anything anybody else does......... I'm a trucker in England and compared to your road trains my truck is tiny.
I would love to see these road trains up close and video's like yours are the next best thing, so thank you very much for sharing it and keep up the good work mate.
MrRob4386 9 months ago 29
@MrRob4386 Thanks mate but sometimes I just have to put them ( idiots) back in their box. I plan some more big truck videos in the next few months. The big stuff is a long way from where I live.
Rocketboy1950 9 months ago 2
What was being transported at the 4:05 minute mark on both the trucks?
Fordgirl 9 months ago
@Fordgirl Tank parts are on the second, but not the sort of tank you're used to!
NeonGenesisPlatinum 9 months ago
I find it interesting that these trailers seem to be only about 25-30 feet in length.... x 4 would be 120-135 feet in length... really not a huge difference from American trucks... if a long nose 379 with a double sleeper (some are up to 20 feet) pulled a pair of 28' trailers... you'd have about the same length...What's the big deal?
Alrgc2Air 9 months ago
@Alrgc2Air The big deal is your incorrect estimations which are way out and that magic word "if". Your 20' sleeper with two x 28's is 76' which is just slightly short of 120'-135' and a lot less than the real 53 metres.
Rocketboy1950 9 months ago
Alrgc2Air 9 months ago
@Alrgc2Air Your not real flash with maths are you. 53 metres =173.88 feet. And "what if " again. If may aunt had balls she'd be my uncle. If you could do maths we could save ourselves the trouble of having this pointless exchange. We have B triples here but road trains are not articulated, they are stand alone trailers. IF you ever start running them over there get back to me. I won't be holding my breath.
Rocketboy1950 9 months ago 3
@Rocketboy1950 - "maths"? LOL... First off, I am usually quite good with math... SAE to metric conversions I don't do so well with... My info is based on 3 ft = .91xx meter... Looking at these videos, the trailers (especially the tankers) appear to be much shorter than what is run with doubles and triples in the states.... And that is my point. You still fail to mention whether your 53 meters is with or without the road tractor.
Alrgc2Air 9 months ago
@Alrgc2Air 53 metres is the total of a road train with three trailers, four trailers are a little harder to find but do run on the more remote roads. The purpose of this clip is that these are the biggest trucks in the world and whether that be by a margin of one inch or twenty one feet is irrelevant, they are the biggest. Now that might be a bit hard to swallow in a country that thinks it's the biggest and best at everything but suck it up. We also have the biggest trains. Discussion over.

Paramedic80 10 months ago
If we had decent railways there wouldn't be the need for these road trains. But the penny pinching government closes them down instead.
autophyte 10 months ago
@autophyte If this was in a populated area you would be correct. It isn't and these are the best and most efficient form of transport available under the circumstances. These tracks are the life blood of a great deal of the Australian outback.

A lot of truckies think they own the road & harrass motorist by sitting right on their bumper! if the speed limit is 100 or 110 & you're on my bumper, you're speeding!!! loonatics
