  • overrated.

  • Worth noting that Bryan Singer IS a homosexual. So Kevin may be on to something...

  • What a way to answer one question :D

  • hey, bryan singer did just that with superman!

  • This is STUPID stop trying to make everything about gays, they don't even fall in the same category as race. Stupid idiots!

  • @Sileni But the second film does make it more gay-oriented. Cue Iceman's parents: "Have you tried...not being a mutant?"

  • ah, if only he could have foreseen how Superman Returns would turn out...

  • i love how the people on this page can't stand the 'gayness' aspect of the criticism, but are wiling to accept the other stuff like its about race, being different, whatever;

"oh the stories arent REaLLY gay its just how the movie portrayed them" or "it's about all kinds of difference, gayness is just a small aspect of it" or "why does he have to mention gayness at all?"

    listen:

    theyre completely gay

    inherently gay as concepts

    and

you dont like it cos the statement was too close to the truth.

  • @natmanprime

like alllucky7s said. its about being gay, black, brown, asian, disabled, and any other differences that bigots in society label u as outcast (or 'used to' in some cases) for.

  • @ILGAR93 but those are the *intentional* 'messages', that came out in the 60's with marvel especially. I'm talking about repressed homosexual impulses, that manifested in the '30s with the rise of religious repression in america especially.

look at DC especially: martian Manhunter, green lanern's special Ring, Batman, cavorting around in the night with a young boy in fancy dress, always shunning the affections of women, always with underpants showing, etc.

    repressed unwitting(?) gay fantasies.

  • @natmanprime

well i dont think it is about gay fantasies as to more about challenging the audience. i mean if a superhero had a suit and a tie it would have been a copy of james bond at the time the first costume superheros were created. but spandex outfits and costumes just brought originality to the context which a guy fighting crime basically.

  • @ILGAR93 come on now. If someone pitched the idea today, "ok look guys, there's a guy, ok, and he's got a great muscly body, and he's got skin tight clothes, and he has a special magical ring, and he LOVES the colour green, and he is SO not into yellow..."

or "here's a guy, he's NAKED apart from boots, underpants and a cloak, great muscly bod...oh yeah and he's called the Manhunter"WTF???

as for copying bond, no danger. He kills and fucks women, for a start.

and he came out(!) in the60's, no?

  • @natmanprime

no but bond came out in the 50s, around the time comic books started to become the way it is now. and also by your definition anyone who wears bright colors and tights is gay. and while that may be true in real life this is comics we are talking about. hypothetically these guys have either been altered by radiation that would dwarf the amounts in Chernobyl, came from space, or some magical place which is like a whole another level of weirdness going on there.

  • @ILGAR93 yes and...?

forgive me, i don't see your point your making

you don't seem to have made an argument against my points here

ok they had some strange origin, and then they decided to be gay about it

i mean look at batman with robin thats some michael jackson shit right there LOL

a handsome muscly older man and a young pretty boy in their secret outfits

as if their gonna catch every criminal just as it happens. anyone with a brain deals with the CAUSES of crime not running around endlessly

  • i want to be able to watch his green hornet movie

  • i always thought that about x-men,but not just gay,all minorities

  • HE MADE SUPERMAN GAY!!!!!!!!! nice one

  • 1:52 the guy in the blue hoody is the spits of peter jackson

  • Why is Silent Bob talking?

  • Kevin was right! Bryan Singer made Superman gay in Superman Returns!!! hahahahaha

  • @WillBNunn he mad superman gay in zac and miri make a porno!

  • @WillBNunn Thank you for stealing my comment four months before I planned to make it :p

  • Kevin has kind of a mullet going on here.

  • i think its about people with superpowers............

  • x-men sucked

  • Man, a gay superman would have been better than that crap "Superman Returns."

  • Comment removed

  • xmen is about blowing stuff up with powers!

  • i agree with alllucky7s

  • The X-men comics are about Racism not Homosexuality but singer being A gay man I can see what Kevin is saying but to say thats what X-men in general is about doesn't sound right to me

  • X-men is really about prejudice for being different, be it race, sexuality, whatever.

  • @alllucky7s damn,i just made a comment without reading yours which was the exact same thing but you said it a little better, now i look like a jerkoff

  • @alllucky7s nope GAY! just gay

look theyre prancing around in skin tight rubber

    get real now wake up

superman and all that other shit as wel

bright red underpants and boots and over stylised hair and little masks wtf

  • @alllucky7s Nah more sexuality there are black, white, asian ect different races of mutant's so it's not really about race more sexuality or being poor.

  • @alllucky7s X-Men is really about mutants.

  • @KILLAKINGD0M actually it'd be about both technically...considering the hating of homosexuality is also hating someone for being different, just like racism.

  • I've always thought the book touched upon all of those kinds of real-world issues (Racism and Homosexuality included).

  • me ruv pussee?

  • So lets see: He stands outside a superhero-movie in a long black coat and talks to kids about getting a cock in their mouth.

Would be interesting how long it would take till the police gets there ;)

  • people from england seem to have more respect to laughing instead of shouting random shit like americans do when he says something cock related

  • generalization....

  • dude, if u compare our country to the europe, they're so much different, yeah theres probably some people like us that are loud and annoying but at least they have more respect then we do

  • I'm just sayin' that's a generalization cause it is. You're talking your limited experience and probably opinions you've heard and making a blanket statement. no beef (cause I'm a vegetarian) just sayin'.

  • you don't know where i've been or what i've seen so dont make the assumption that im just doing this by total guess and opinions

  • there's no way you've been everywhere.

  • it wouldn't be very smart of me to assume you're not doing "this" by total guess and opinions. I mean should I just take your word for it?

  • well i definitely havent been everywhere, but based off of observations of where i have been, americans tend to be more rowdy during shows then people in europe or japan for example, you dont have to take my word for it but im just saying what i know and im not forcing you to believe it

  • I know. I'm not. regardless you still made a generalization. it's not bad I was just saying.

  • Seth's in it, but Kevin didn't write that version.

  • i would totally watch that green hornet movie...

  • hes hilarious

  • ME ROVE PUSSY!!!!!

  • at least Seth Rogen is going to be in the new Green Hornet so it will still have the magic touch : )

  • "and then i'll wrap up, and we'll watch some tv." Oh, the glory of being literally a fat fucker. I am glad these days that when I get action I'm always in better shape than I was, 'cos unvigorous sex making you sweat is totally lame.

  • Shut up.

  • i don't think it's specifically directed to being gay more like just being diffrent (x2)

  • The scene in Bobby's home is really clearly an analogy to coming out as gay to your parents. Although I will say, the X-Men have always been a parable about intolerance and bigotry, of all stripes.

  • If he didn't talk so long it would suck...

" Hey kev whats your favorite movie"

    " X-men( example)..........."

.....Why? We WOULDN'T KNOW!!!! so there for his rants are great!

  • i luv his long talks

  • Yea thats why I was arguing with some one on here. It would be like if he didn't you wouldn't understand what he thinks about the subject.

  • if he didn't talk so long, it wouldn't be an evening with Kevin it would be a moment with...I love to heae him talk he is so funny, and there is a lot of truth to what he says.

  • it does, but that is what makes him more epic

  • hm, I wouldn't say that. most of the time, he answers the question within the first few seconds with a simple "yes" or "no" and keeps on ranting. which I find very entertaining.

  • Kevin with every you tube video I love you more and more : ) : )

  • And here I was thinking X-men was all about civil rights.

  • It's about feeling like an outcast, as most teenagers do, according to Stan Lee.

So that can apply to Civil rights, but also being gay, or anything that someone might be discriminated against for.

  • Nah i think its more about bein gay cus the kids gotta come out to their parents ya kno

  • In X2 there was a scene where Iceman opens up to his parents about is hom ... I mean ... mutant enhancement.

  • Funny how Superman actually turned out to be the gayest thing on earth and he didn't like it.

  • Singer's Superman is actually the gayest version of a Superhero to the date, that version of Superman surpassed even the gayness of Schumacher Batman & Robin , since that was like gay in a bad joke kind of way and this Superman was more like an Hymn to gayness.

Am talking about those movies of course, neither Superman or Batman are intended to be gay characters. Is just the day they portray them in those god awful movies.

  • Is just the "way" they portray them, sorry.

  • I agree. I was just saying Superman himself isn't gay. Sorry for that

  • "You like Wolverine, do ya?" I loved that.

But he's right - I loved how X Men 2 was a gay parable. Thought it was a bold move and made for a great, deep, real movie.

  • Because his brother's gay so he always is trying to help the gay community, and also gay have been persecuted a lot in recent years.

    snick snick snick

  • "No you Fuck me" that was awesome...

  • I see him

  • at 1:51, there's a jack black lookalike in the crowd, blue t-shirt.

  • he's more fat than jack black

  • Assuming that every long-haired, bearded, smiling fat guy looks like Jack Black, even Kevin Smith is a Jables lookalike.

No, he doesn't look like him at all.

  • "i love wolverine! snick, snick, snick" that always cracks me up

  • fucking hell gotta love kevin smith... he's funny as hell

  • Lmao "If you like wolverine, its pretty much saying you put a cock in your mouth"

  • having read the rest of the comments, i'd like u all to write a comic book today.

    it's easy.

  • you mean you like how he has stories or anecdotes that connect to things in his life?

  • no, not atall, because he does not...

ah too much, what i mean to say is i wouldnt describe it as that, i would instead describe it as i already did, because it (more than seems) more accurate and true. [the way i see it] He has -speeches memorized- and anytime somebody asks a question that he can 'file under' one of these speeches in any way he 'loads' that one, even if its not directly answering the question (which alot of times is the case). If theres no speech to insert he insults instead.

  • i mean i'm a fan of his work and i like him, i know most of his movies verbatim (word for word), and i also believe in some ways hes underrated (by film critics and film-makers), but judging from many fans opinions i find him overrated (he doesnt need your back-up on youtube, and hes not that tallented), and i am not intending to degrade or criticize him but i'm calling it like i see it and in no way believe hes the genius that the inevitable flamers will front and deny thinking of him as...

  • hey i am no crazy fan and i dont think he is a genius, but he is basically doing a stand up show, and the questions are what sets him off on a story/joke. thats the way it is, he is not meant to be free stylin makin stuff up, it is obviously all connected. but beyond that i would say half the questions he gets asked are about past stories the fans already know about. anyway i think he has funny stories like his superman story and stuff

  • i'll agree and i'm glad you see it for what it is... assuming your agreeing w/ what i said and saying 'so what' to it. And the superman story (with the giant spider) was great and gave great incite to what goes on in 'hollywood', and i agree with the 'half the questions/fans already know about' stuff aswell ... thats all i really haveto say about that lol... i mean kept the evening w/ kevin dvd from blockbuster out of foresight that i wouldnt be able to find it @ the mall but i'm just saying...

  • my first super hero movie was X-Men and I love it my dad is who got me into comics and i am glad he did

  • my idea to be lex lothor is like no you fuck me XD

  • why does everyone get so bent out of shape when talking about kevin smith......he is just an entertainer trying to make people laugh...calm the fuck down jimmyratz

  • OH ME RUV PUSSY! classic Smith

  • people have been dying everyday since the beginning of life, if people weren't able to stop and smell the roses and enjoy the smallest of pleasures in life we would live in a world of ruin and despair. With that thank you Kevin Smith for being our ray of light in a world that jimmyratz invisions

  • lol its funny how you make an obscene juvenile rant about obscene juveniles rants.

    pot....kettle...black...anyone?

  • Kevin SHOULD do more of this. I almost see him becoming with film what Henry Rollins did with music; start in it, and then transition into a much more powerful storyteller.

I do like his films, but if given the choice between renting one of his "Evening with" or a proper film he directed, I'll take the former every time.

    Sorry Kev; still love ya.

  • ...Just because I want to see people rant and rave and bitch...I will now bring up another comic-to-film topic:

    Zack Snyder's 300-as-superheroes-I mean Watchmen.

    commence bitching :)

  • Well Kevin Smith seems to be in love with the new project. Looksgreat to me, can't complain about anything I've seen.

  • what new project ? zac and miri ?

  • Oh no, I mean Watchmen. Every nerd is excited for that. Except for the ones who pray to a photograph of Alan Moore with his Snake-God.

  • oh well it looks good i agree.

  • hahahahaha lol. Alan Moore is a fucker

  • alan moore rules!!!

  • When he started talking shit about Watchmen...no (Sad because that book is amazing, I give him props on his writing.) But i would not stand in line to get his autograph. Fuck him

  • When did he talk shit about Watchmen?

  • He refused to watch any footage of the trailer when it was released. Then he went and talked shit about Zach Snyder, because 300 was racist and homophobic. He's a fucker

  • 300 sucks dude, all it was like slow mo stabbings NOTHING ELSE

  • In the book its hard to tell if its in slow mo. To call out on Frank Miller (also an amazing writer) is fucked up

  • I don't think Alan has anything against Zack. In the interview he wasnt spewing shit about him. He was more like "Eh, I didnt like 300. It was stupid to me. but I didnt like the book either. so I'm gonna have to see..."

    Alan will probably still complain...

especially with the studio cut which turned a movie originally over 3 hours long, already with the important interviews and Black Freighter taken out, and squished it into 2 and a half.

    Alan will complain :(

  • yeah he kinda is...

    but I respect him.

that fucker is a fantastic writer.

  • why not the ones who pray to a photograph of Alan Moore with his snake god?

  • cus Alan Moore refused to have anything to do with adaptions of his books...

    AKA

when a movie comes out, he doesnt want his name in the credits, he doesnt want to get paid, etc.

He isnt too sure about Watchmen, but he thinks he will hate it. is word is law to his huge fans. Maybe he'll think its okay. But he didnt like 300.

And its all because of that assbad League Of Extraordinay Gentlemen and seeing V from V for Vendetta wearing a pink apron. I thought that was funny, him not so much.

  • Thats why I respect Snyder because in everyone of his interviews he has talked about doing the book justice. But, League was a piece of shit and V for Vendetta wasn't that bad if you ask me

  • Yes I agree. I thought the Eggy in a Basket scene was funny. Though I prefer the book's ending a lot more. The film was still good compared to... ugh... LOEG.

Yeah, I like Snyder, he's a fellow nerd. He watched Star Wars and wanted to make movies like that. He just got lucky but understands this amount of responsibility he is given and does his best to give these works justice. And he studies these books so intently, he just rambles on and on in interviews cus theres so much he wants to share.

  • X-Men 2 was a good movie, but it was not a good comic book movie. All the characters were treated like shit except Wolverine, they changed everything about the characters, Nightcrawler looked fucking gay and the only reference to gay people was Iceman coming out. "Have you tried... not being a mutant?" That's it.

  • I hear you but if you're making these movies and you want them to make any kind of money you have to change stuff to make appealing to a wider audience, they're just ain't enough die-hard comic book lovers out there to where to studios are gonna pander to 'em.

    It's about the almighty dollar.

  • Not to suggest that there aren't those overtones in the X-Men films, but I think that he's going a wee bit overboard. Just a bit.

  • You'd think that he'd just do stand up.

  • 3:58. there's me! lame, but it amused me!

  • i love this man alot...but no fucking way were those xmen movies good i liked them because it was x-men but the story was all over the fucking shop...

  • I'll agree with you on that point for 1 and 3, but I thought 2 was brilliant. Brian Cox was great as Col. Stryker.

  • well i have mixed feelings on all three, there were kinda gay, but still pretty good, and yes Brian Cox played the role of Col. Stryker to a 't'

but i was in love with mose of the marvle movies anyways, so i'm kinda bies, i'm a marvle like freal almost

    lol

(this dosn't include the hulk or ghost rider, they sucked)

    lol

even though they were also two ov my favorit comics

    lol

  • wolverine is hawt

  • I am a Kevin fan, but I do agree with you, he seems so ungrateful he's in the position he's in. But atleast he can admit he's lazy.

  • Hey Cosmic, if you don't like the constant swears, then you don't like Smith Kevin. No offense man, to each their own, but seriously, that's just Smith. Where have you seen him NOT like that? How can you be a fan if you don't like what he's pratically KNOWN for?

Besides, a lot of comedians/funny people in general swear. That's just how it is.

  • because that is part of his personality. That isn't an act, that is kevin smith. The thing about smiths movies is that they're all mostly based off of real experiences. The dialog is just the way he talks.

  • The whole gay tangent reminded me of how they made Colossus gay in Ultimate X-Men. If Logan was gay, I could see him being a leather-clad bear. Yes, I DID just put that image in your head. :)

Yes, we all know X is about discrimination and prejudice against people who, although perfectly natural, are different from the majority.

    ...but Smith's just dicking around.

  • I loved the gay colossus, that was real funny. :P

  • Ha ha, yeah, I love Big Gay Colossus as well. I mean come on, he already had the vacuum-sealed tight shirts.

No issues with gay X-men. :)

  • X-Men isn't about being gay specifically, but it is about being different, which could apply to alot of stuff, such as racism and homosexuality etc.

  • X-Men isnt about being gay, what is he smoking?

Oh wait, hes a comedian. its a JOKE people!

  • x men's bout gay??????????

  • just cause it's weird to live in a world that rejects you

  • Well, X-Men isn't just a parabole about being gay, it's about being different in any sense of the word (whether you're from a different country, from a different race or from a different religion).

  • Kato do you love pussy?

  • wolverine is gay... that fat guy told me he is gay

  • HE IS A GOD!

  • ya can say that again.

  • Wolverine is NOT gay! Not that there's anything wrong with that ...

  • Come out of the closet Geezer you're too obvious.

  • OMFG Kevin Smith is so God damn funny. Ben Afflect is a douche. What movie is he goin to be in next? I mean its like what is 20th Century Fox goin to cast Mark Steven Johnsion as a director for Daredevil? The he'll cast Ben? I mean thank Jesus that hasnt happend. But I'm getting off topic and Smith really is fucking funny. "You don't know the amount of cocks I chug but thats none of your God damn Busines"

  • Okay now learn to spell a person's name Daredevil before you start name calling.

  • Kevin Smith's (obviously this standup comendy and pre-written)standup is better than his films.

  • I highly doubt it's "prewritten" because the questions are obviously asked by random people...and I'm sure he has countless stories about, gee, I dunno...COMIC BOOKS.

Not all his movies are great but do you like every song your favorite musician plays?

  • Thank you for nothing burnett.

  • well,he probably gets asked similar questions a lot,he can't tell it differently every time

  • Kevin Smith said these EXACT same words on Conan O'Brian. That means he is offically doing "material". Seeing my respect for him slowly sinking.

  • He's a comic doing his material. Do you get pissed if you see Chris Rock doing the same skit?

  • No, because Chris Rock is a comic. That was my point GENIUS! Since when did Kevin Smith become a stand-up comedian? In all of his credits, that has never been listed.

  • Kevin Smith is acting like stand-up comedian when he goes on these speaking tours and of course has prepared material. Did you really believe that he was coming up with these skits off the top of his head before you became disillusioned by seeing the same skit on Conan "O'Brian"(sic)? If so then you are obviously the GENIUS.

  • Considering the fact that the forum is a Q&A, yes I would have thought he could come up with answers off the top of his head. Do you need to write material before you answer a question? GENIUS.

  • You obviously know nothing about public speaking. When you go into any forum where you will be asked questions and need to respond, you always try to anticipate those questions before hand and write out/think out a response and you either answer with the prepared answer or you lead the question into an area where you have prepared. This is what all public speakers do and this is what Kevin Smith did.

    P.S. GENIUS

  • We are talking about STAR WARS and BATMAN questions, right?

  • The subject matter is beside the point and the purpose of going to this was to be entertained. No one could have stood up there for two hours without being prepared or not having prepared material.

  • Yeah.. he pre writes OTHER peoples questions before hand and pre writes an answer..

  • No, no he doesn't.

It's just that one can know what types of questions people ask.

He gets them all the time.

And what is wrong even IF it was pre written. He is still making you laugh and enjoy yourself.

I would love to go to one of his shows.

I could listen to him talk about nothing and still love it.
