The dance was put together by Iliko Sukhishvili again, and he always called the dance "KARTULI". I have been dancing for 10 years and I guess I kind of know little bit of history of every dance..

lezginka is common name for all of the Northern Caucasian dances. there are too many different kinds of it, starting from soft and slow finishing with sharp and extra fast.
also, Lezgin people is one of the Dagestani nationalities, noone knows where the name of the dance is coming from, probably it's named after the Dagestani nation.
so, once again, there are about 50 nations, maybe more, living in Caucasus, and all of us dance different, even though the principle is the same.

it is true that russians called all fast dances lezginka, but this dance movements are common to all caucasian dances, i think it is the basic dance which every dance developed from, you can see how it is similar to the georgian Kartuli.
