  • I have been trying to understand high pass and low pass filters for a while but this video made everything perfectly clear. Learned a lot from all the how to videos. Keep it up.

  • Holy shit dude! I sort of understood this before, but your visualisation made this so much easier to understand!

I'm currently installing two 6.5 " full range Polk speakers, and two 12" kicker subs in my car... Now, would it be smart if I hooked the two full range speakers to front left and front right, then set these to "mid/high pass"? and the two rear speaker terminals in bridged, with the two subs in parallel, to low pass? I think my amplifier supports this feature :)

  • Good job explaining it. i kow my car audio but there is not other way to explain it great job. and just for that ill follow u man seriously good job

  • So for the amp itself when tuning is it better for the subs to have it on full or on low for the sub? I apparently blew my last subs because of wiring and I am looking at getting 2 15's and I don't want to end up messing these up since I am getting tired of putting money into a system when it keeps screwing up on me.

  • @pimbuk , LOW, on the amp it will say " LPF" meaning low pass filter, It wil probably be a selectable switch, the the "dial" for HPF, turn all the way down ( to the left usually) and the "dial" for the LPF should be set to arounf 80HZ, ( usually halfway up -to the right, maybe a little less). and you should be fine.

  • Dude, you are FUCKING amazing at this! I would let you install ANY system and get a job at any audio store if I owned one! You really know your shit man! Props!

  • AMAZING video!! but one thing.. i heard you say something like if your box is tuned to 45hz then it will only be able to cleanly handle 55hz at most.. my box is tuned at about 39-40hz.. how much is it able to handle then? i have it set at 100 (only because im kind of scared to send anything to low to them.. what is the most my filter should be set at on the sub amp if the box is tuned to about 40hz?? thanks in advance

  • @xsnwbrdr4life 80hz, I'd usually good for general rule of thumb.the lpf is going to stop frequencies higher then your filter. So if you set to 80hz the your sub wont see any higher then 80hz which is bad for a sub anyhow.

  • Question so basically if you wanted to bandpass you would set a HP/LP filter on your deck preout then set a LP/HP filter on your amp?

  • I dont actually agree with this. I have two alpine 12's being pushed by a 1000w mono kenwood amp. As well as a 4 channel for my 4 coax alpines. Head-units DO NOT supply enough power to cleanly push 4 'decent' aftermarket coaxials at higher volumes, and 4 channel amps aren't 'that' expensive if you look around. My 4 channel amp significantly improved my sound quality over driving them from my kenwood head-unit. I would never go back.

  • Great video... I may have missed something.... What is blocking the frequencies above 120 from going to the mid-range speakers? Or does that not matter?

  • @DavePeeler , if your using a component set the crossover that comes with it will seperate the sound according to the speakers ability as per manufacturer.

  • @DefiantAudio1 Thanks... I do have a component set in the front but not the rears. I guess it just won't play the frequencies that are out of range for the mids in the rear then?

  • I was planing on getting component set they come with crossover wondering if I should set the filter on amp to full or not it's currently on hpf and I have 2way coax & 6x9

  • @nastynel1980 , Sorry so late but, if you have subs then yes leave the amp on HP, if you need the mid range to complete the sound then go "full", but you'll get more clarity when sending less signal to the components.

  • tq bro for your informations about the speaker......

  • filters,to the subs? what are they, are they Built in the amps?

  • @mackworld5000 , yeah there is a dial on every amp for "LPF" that is your low pass filter meaning what ever you set that too, the amp will cut off all freq. above that setting.

  • Good vid. A video on how to actually set the crossover points on an amp would be good.

  • @KriptKeepa24 we are looking to get a better camera for that, ours isnt a clean enough image to show filter settings we've tried

  • @DefiantAudio1 I mean more like how to set your mids/highs \amp to say 100 hz or setting a tweeter running active at 2500 hz or w.e it may be.

  • Damn minorities explaining audio :) lol just playing bro if you haven't realized this is John colton's friend

  • Was the 10khz noise in the entire video put in to be cynical? Just playing... I like how ya educate the audio newbies. I'm kinda s nob cuz I know everything you've referenced but... mad props for taking time to show other people. Oh and BTW what did that JBl ever do to you huh? Haha J/K

  • would you still need a crossover if you have like a 360.2 prosessor before amp telling amp what frequency to play through amp to the mids or highs or both or just either one

  • @culltwojc if you ran your mids on one channel each and your tweeter on one channel each of a 4 channel amp with the 360.2 before the amp that would be what is called running it actively if you run the crossover network after the amp inline is called running passive so you would only need to run one or the other but you could still use the 360.2 with the crossovers to set your limits of your full signal but your not using your 360.2 to its full potential

  • @bigrobstillpimpn , well said. could be anymore accurate on your answer. good job

  • @DefiantAudio1 Thanks man i know its hard to get to everybodies questions so i thought i would help out a little bit

  • 12:22 did you just add a 4 ohm tweeter to that 4 ohm speaker? so now you have a 2 ohm load? and isn't your headunit normally only 4 ohm stable ?! great video man, i showed my friends around here !

  • @mazda2284 a tweeter doesnt have a high enough ohm load to effect a circuit usually but in some situations your right it would be a 2 ohm load an would cause problems.

  • @DefiantAudio1 well my tweets i bought drop me ta 2 ohm lol . thats why i have them on a amp

  • good shit man....

  • hhey man can u do a video on jst the box ?

like how u tune it cuz i have no idea how to do tht

  • @13elsauz soon, i have to find a way to squeeze all that info into 1 vid. That'll be hard

  • @DefiantAudio1 you could do it in like a few part series just chop it down to a few vids once you shot it all i would watch them all always good to see another persons way of doing things

  • thnx man this realy helped

    good job bro

  • ... dammit... now i wanna go outside and film a realtime explanation of what high and low pass filters do... Dammit...

hmm... if i was to DO that... and get a good example of it... would you wanna throw it on your channel and i could be a contributor?

  • @tonythephatone , I like you man , I'm in if you e-mail it to me i can just edit it into the next vid.

  • loved this vid. good shit bro.

  • @sl1ck213 , I hope your serious, because it took alot to try and touch on everything

  • @DefiantAudio1 lol yeah i am bro. i never knew none of that. i feel like an idiot bro lol. but now i doo lol thanx man

  • First!!! But good info though
