"I should have known from the first, I'd be the broken-hearted." and "And all the prayers in the world can save us." my,my, my,my.... That song, those lines pass all jealousy tests--by far my favorite song by Nicks and Mac.
Stevie is magical, she has touched my life, for so many years, through difficult times. And, like Stevie, I have always been a storm, but sometimes, I have realized that storms are more beautiful, although they come with a little danger...they always bring something exciting, and, after a storm... the most beautiful shells wash up to shore....
Not to sound too picky, but the song is called "Storm" as in the lyrics "I have always been a storm". It's just one of the many good songs of off the highly under-rated TUSK double cd.
@1105Chance No, the correct title is "Storms" check the track listing. Just like it's "Silver Springs" even though the lyric is "You could be my silver spring".
@dsajewich Yeah, I remembered that right after I hit "Enter". I was wondering how long it would take for someone to call me on it. I am surprised someone didn't correct me earlier! That's what I get for being in a picky mood, but I still recognized that it was a great song. Your post made me laugh. With Youtube, you know SOMEONE is going to catch an error.
I always tear up inside when I hear this song. A true classic. It brings memories of my first marriage and the doomed resignation back. I miss you still Annette.
I just heard this song for the first time recently and just love it. I think it is horrible that Carol Ann Harris wrote a book about her life with Lindsey and titled it Storms - what a bitch!!!
@TribalTwinSC as the Biggest Stevie fan you must have listened thru Tusk before now? :) i listened thru Tusk when i was 15 and found this, been one of my fav since then! thou you can't beat the feeling of finding a Stevie song you haven't heard before!

@TribalTwinSC hehe don't always believe what you hear ;) Tango in the Night and Tusk were the first albums i heard as i got the records from my dad :) Now i have them ALL, before Lindsey and Stevie as well, on CD and mp3 :) Enjoy Tusk!

From listening to it I thought the lyric was 'I have always been in storms' (hence the title 'storms' - plural) because it conjures up great imagery of her being metaphorically weathered and battered around by stormy relationships.
the closing lines are so clever and beautiful and haunting....."she said everynight he will break your heart"...."I should have known from the first, I'd be the broken-hearted"..."I loved you from the start....save us...and not all the prayers in the world could save us...."
@jakesmmm HAHHAHAHAHA! I hope not... There are many parallels between love and drugs- best not to discern between the two... leave it to ambiguity. Enjoy.
What a beautiful song, although sad. It's sad to have to feel this way, when a love can't be. I've never heard this song before. She sings with feeling.
This song was written before her and Mick got together, this was a follow up to Silver Spring, and Lindsey's "Tusk"; Which is why during the recording, Lindsey wrote "What makes you think your the one" One of the great songs of all time, just him and mick with a reel-to-reel
Lindsey Buckingham became especially enraged when she would spill the contents of her colostomy bag on the stage when she danced. He would slip on the spills and play the wrong notes. He really hated that bitch. During one show, he kicked her colostomy bag into the crowd. The fans went nuts for it and a riot ensued. 23 people died.
this when my heart would get broken...but now that's all water under the bridge. Life had something better in store for me, my wonderful husband Paul. <3
This song is pure soul, prescient, touched by the magic that stevie always courted. This song has been with me since I was 14. Now I'm 38 and sounds just as fresh, just as beautiful.
@phototrope23 Dude no words can better describe how beautiful and magnificent this song is. She was so beautiful and still looks amazing for her age. It never gets old. I love all her song but this one touches me in a way its unbelievable. Its like telling my life. You are a good person =) Wunderbar =)
Fleetwood Mac for ever...
This song kept me awake as I played it over and over while driving through the empty Mohave Desert, thinking about breaking up with a girl. Always . . . been a storm.
I believe this song was written for and about Mick Fleetwood. They had an affair after Rumours. The affair ended when he left his wife but took up with a third woman who was a friend of Stevie's.
i am in bed sick with my laptop listening to this song over and over...maybe it's the codeine cough syrup but it's so beautiful. i've been loving being in bed sick with my laptop i've become properly educated on the music of fleetwood mac and stevie nicks..love her interview where she rambles on about hamburger helper lol. bananas&oranges- rimbaudboy.
It will make all of you happy to know that in an interview a couple years ago, Stevie said that "Storms" is her most favorite song out of all she has written/sang. Maybe we will see her perform this again live.
Only Stevie could write a song that is so depressing, make you want to cry, and love her all the more for it. The quality of her songs has no match, it's pure magic.
Storms for me is a really great song reminds me of my boyfriend...exspecially when stevie sing...as you slowly go away from me..it's only another test....makes me cry always
This song always reminds me of my exwife. A beautiful, wonderful fascinating woman and the love of my life with whom I just could not make a life work.
Years ago but still no one compares. She always was a storm
Although I haven't heard every Fleetwood Mac/Stevie Nicks song, this one HAS to be the most beautiful and emotional. The vulnerability in Stevie's voice is heartbreaking. Surely, there isn't another song by them that's more beautiful and more emotional.
did they even do this on tusk tour? i can't remember the vhs videos i had. i don't think I have never seen footage of it. then again-who knows the real stories behind these songs, might be something she doesn't want to re-live.
What a great song. Means so much to me for so many reasons. I remember first hearing it in October '79 when Tusk came out and it still really moves me when I hear it today. Stevie's the best.

Haunting....simply haunting!!! ..."But never have I ever been a blue calm sea, I have always been a storm." .... "I should have known from the first I'd be the broken-hearted." Save us... Not all the prayers in the world could save us..."
Have we not all lived through the essence of what this terrific song speaks to??? Timeless...beautiful!!!
Every time I hear this song, I think about how hard it is to be a professional singer. Your voice just gets thrashed from endlessly touring. This is the first song that I have heard from Stevie where her voice is faltering. I think that it reflects a truly vulnerable and exhausted performer. I would love to hear her sing this song now b/c I know she would belt it out!
unnatural endings are a part of fate...always a divine bigger plan. And as of darkness and sorrow, also a part of life's balancing act. It's all good when kept in perspective. I think this song represents the storms and some of her others represents the smoothness of the path. Great chatting with you dtnyc!
wow, I've never heard this song and I've loved this band since I was a kid. I love her music, do you know any lesser known songs by her that are this good?
Maybe I could help you if you can tell me some of the Stevie and Fleetwood Mac albums you have already listened to. If you haven't heard this song, you may have not listened to the "Tusk" album. It's by far the best Fleetwood Mac album by the Rumours line-up of Fleetwood Mac. Most would say Rumours, but that is a close second. At least in my opinion. On "Tusk," "Sister's Of the Moon," "Beautiful Child," "Angel," and "Sara" (you may have heard that one) are all great.
These lyrics are not written by Fleetwood Mac.They are written by Stevie Nicks. She gave it to the band for rhumors.Though it did not fit, next album, Tusk.Never a calm sea alway's a storm.
I don't think this song was ever intended to be on "Rumours." The song is about Mick Fleetwood and Stevie didn't have a relationship with him until after the recording of "Rumours."
Go out and buy Tusk right now! NOW!!!! Don't even read the rest of this comment. Are you still reading? Better not be...GO GET IT!!! In my opinion, anyone that hasn't listened to Tusk in its entirety is a walking zombie, devoid of spirit, an empty shell of a person that makes God cry at the thought of the unfulfilled potential of his infinite love.
Carol Ann,I read your book. You weren't very bright. You should have made Lindsey marry you,and not been such a doormat. Now you're older and he's doing what he should have been doing with you.
Thanks for this, love this song. I think the whole TUSK album is so underrated, one of my fave Fleetwood Mac albums with great songs like this one , Beautiful Child, Angel, Never Forget, Brown Eyes, What makes you think you're the one, and Think about me.
i love this song but it surprises me that no one is that aware of it. one of the best stevie song for sure. also(this is totally random)but has anyone read that Carol Ann Harris book Storms? odd that she titles it after a stevie song but is not very nice about her in the book. but i guess she's just another wanna-be trying to cash in on people with real talent(like the MAC). it sickens me. =[
exactly! Carol Ann is a skank! if you've read that book then you know it is total BS. i mean if she says "the fleetwood mac family","the inner-circle", or "lindsey is a musical genius" one more time i'm gonna scream! she portrays stevie as a complete airhead. i'm not buying. we all know that stevie can be a little out there at times(with the crystal visions and what not)but i don't think that she's completely oblivious to everything. GIVE ME A BREAK CAROL ANN! okay. i'm done venting now.
yea she must be retarded or something did a gram too much on the coke! i was pissed about how she threw lindsey under the bus every othher page. get a life!
she probably doesn't even remember any of it b/c she was so stoned. the story about stevie telling her that lindsey only liked her b/c they look alike was rather humorous as was the stevie's poodle does coke story. it seems like there are just enough good stevie moments to get you through it(like the fight w/ mick's wife that probably never happened). yeah. i believe she's just cashin' in on knowing them. it's so wrong. but i would love to hear what the band had to say about the book.
ahh. i would be too afraid to. (esp stevie and lindsey) i think that there is some mutual hatred for dearest carol. is there a reporter out there brave enough?
lol. probably. i don't think that they really care b/c they know that 99.9% of it is bull shit. but it would still piss me off. i wonder if they've even read it.
Sad part about this book it still hurts Lindsey's wife and kids. His kids dont need to see this crap written about their father. Ms. Harris get a life and leave your garbage from 25 years ago down that path. Forgive and let it go. Also it would be a good idea for her to take a close look at herself and see if she was really that innocent back then or even now...
good.

call me crazy, but I think the 'faltering' in her voice only adds dimension and feeling to this particular song. I absolutely adore this one. IMHO
WitchyWonder 3 years ago 5
Totally agree, it really shows her vulnerable side and nails the premise of the song.
rc8675309 3 years ago 3
absolutely...it's a beautiful, delicate rendition of the piece.
WitchyWonder 3 years ago
Agree 100% but then, does the end justify the means? Because it could also be a warning that the song would never be again sung.
dtnyc5000 3 years ago
possibly, but doesn't an ending signify a beginning?
WitchyWonder 3 years ago
Always, my Dear! Though we not know what that will be and unnatural endings may leave gaps where only darkness and sorrow will reside.
dtnyc5000 3 years ago
unnatural endings are a part of fate...always a divine bigger plan. And as of darkness and sorrow, also a part of life's balancing act. It's all good when kept in perspective. I think this song represents the storms and some of her others represents the smoothness of the path. Great chatting with you dtnyc!

Thanks Dreamz, I have heard Sara, that's my name :o). I think I'll buy Tusk because the other songs are not familiar.

I love this song. Too bad it wasn't more well-known like her other stuff.
Dreamz19 3 years ago
wow, I've never heard this song and I've loved this band since I was a kid. I love her music, do you know any lesser known songs by her that are this good?
mizzletits 3 years ago
Maybe I could help you if you can tell me some of the Stevie and Fleetwood Mac albums you have already listened to. If you haven't heard this song, you may have not listened to the "Tusk" album. It's by far the best Fleetwood Mac album by the Rumours line-up of Fleetwood Mac. Most would say Rumours, but that is a close second. At least in my opinion. On "Tusk," "Sister's Of the Moon," "Beautiful Child," "Angel," and "Sara" (you may have heard that one) are all great.
Dreamz19 3 years ago
"Sleeping Angel" is good, if you haven't heard it before, you should give it a listen.

I LOVE the slide show and LOVE the song great video
aliciaj0303 3 years ago
These lyrics are not written by Fleetwood Mac.They are written by Stevie Nicks. She gave it to the band for rhumors.Though it did not fit, next album, Tusk.Never a calm sea alway's a storm.
pennybeth65 3 years ago
I don't think this song was ever intended to be on "Rumours." The song is about Mick Fleetwood and Stevie didn't have a relationship with him until after the recording of "Rumours."

Beautiful song. I never heard this song before, and I am a fan of Fleetwood Mac. I wonder how I missed it.

Simply Beautiful.
Only Fleetwood Mac could write a song with so much emotional depth.

jldroke 4 years ago 3
i second that!
lbap94 3 years ago
GIVE ME A BREAK CAROL ANN! okay. i'm done venting now.
jldroke 3 years ago 2
yea she must be retarded or something did a gram too much on the coke! i was pissed about how she threw lindsey under the bus every othher page. get a life!
lbap94 3 years ago
she probably doesn't even remember any of it b/c she was so stoned. the story about stevie telling her that lindsey only liked her b/c they look alike was rather humorous as was the stevie's poodle does coke story. it seems like there are just enough good stevie moments to get you through it(like the fight w/ mick's wife that probably never happened). yeah. i believe she's just cashin' in on knowing them. it's so wrong. but i would love to hear what the band had to say about the book.
jldroke 3 years ago
same here someone should ask them
lbap94 3 years ago
ahh. i would be too afraid to. (esp stevie and lindsey) i think that there is some mutual hatred for dearest carol. is there a reporter out there brave enough?
jldroke 3 years ago
i totally would even though i love lindsey just to see what he thinks...probably that she's a self obbsorved[sp?] bitch
lbap94 3 years ago
lol. probably. i don't think that they really care b/c they know that 99.9% of it is bull shit. but it would still piss me off. i wonder if they've even read it.
jldroke 3 years ago
one of them probably has i'd bet
lbap94 3 years ago
oh cool. well if you find that interview let me know. i would love to read it.
