That's not specifically a bongun hat. a bongun is basically a Jiang Shi which is a chinese monster that's kinda like a zombie mixed with a vampire and the usually are depicted with hats like that with a paper seal hanging from their hat in front of their face

@Gargantou Almost all Japanese rogue-likes don't have permadeath. To me it's not about permadeath; it's about having a harsh penalty for death. All roguelikes do have harsh penalties for death, including this one- you lose your items and money. The penalty could be permadeath but it doesn't have to be.

Ive seen no shortage in anime references in this game since I started playing and I'm still loving it xD

the latest suprise was on Blugeonig Angel dungeon where a zombie used Rock Lee's Primary Lotus (from naruto) I died but I lmao'd hard after seeing it. I'm SO glad I got the last copy in my area every store was sold out except for 1 which had a display copy that I bought.

@tuberoako777 I do not think it is a tie in; it's probably just a shout out. It's not unusual for NIS to put shout outs to other games into their own. Bonguns are, of course, based on Jiang Shi (chinese zombies) but the talisman attached to the hat is rather distinctive for RO's version of Jiang Shi (Munaks and Bonguns).

@KainVermillion No I'm not. When the game loads up they have an English person say, "Nippon Ichi Software". Look at the trailer for the game if you don't believe me.

both japanese words with japanese pronounciations, it's not uncommon for these types of things to be mispronounced in the english localization.

@KainVermillion Most Japanese games aren't localized by the company who made them. However, Nippon Ichi localized the game themselves. I'm pretty sure they wouldn't botch up their own name inside their own game and all the commercials they air for their games.

Watch the original trailer in japanese or interviews with NIS developers and listen to how it's said. Great review. I just have 2 questions if it's not released in North America then how come it's in english? Also why did you say Tokusatsu (Special Effects) then Power Rangers instead of Super Sentai, I can understand Masked Rider because Kamen does mean Masked?

@EdwardElric555 Super Sentai is only known to people who are big fans of the genre. The overwhelming majority of North Americans only know of the English localization (if it could even be called that...), Power Rangers.
